PLANS to cut congestion on Southampton's roads using trams have been met by concern as calls are made to do more to tackle pollution.
As previously reported, civic chiefs revealed proposals to cut congestion in the city by creating a mass transit system using trams or a light railway.
Senior members of the city council are also studying ways to give buses greater priority as well as enabling more freight to travel by rail.
However, the proposals have been met with concern from one city councillor, who worries that money could be "thrown down the drain".
Cllr Lisa Mitchell, Shadow Spokesperson for the Environment and Housing, said that she "welcomes" any money coming to the city to fund a mass transit system however she states that air pollution in the city need to be reduced now.
