A RECENT Looking Back picture triggered some happy memories for former Lancashire Evening Telegraph journalist Chris Bates.
It also encouraged him to see if Looking Back readers can help him in a quest to unearth some particular railway memorabilia.
We’ll let Chris take up the story:
“In 1967, I moved to Blackburn from my native Lincolnshire to work on the Evening (as it was then) Telegraph and to my great delight, not only did the newsroom offer a panoramic view of the railway station and its approaches, but also many of the trains were still pulled by steam locomotives.
They had vanished from Lincolnshire’s railways two or three years previously, so for me as a railway enthusiast from a railway family, this was an added bonus to the many pleasures of working in Lancashire.
