Centres are now calling on foster families to look after cats, kittens and sick animals, with the Napier centre also calling for more volunteers.
“Our team have been getting a lot of kittens in cardboard boxes lately and seeing kittens come to the centre in all sorts of ways. Such as a Tui beer box, a laundry basket, and we’ve just had one arrive in a shoe box,” Janssen said.
Fostering involved temporarily caring for animals in a home environment, which was beneficial for those that were too young or sick to be adopted. It also helped animals recovering from sickness or injury, or those who needed help with confidence and socialisation.
