Hume council’s calls for funding to upgrade the Calder Freeway have been answered, with $50 million set aside for the road in this year’s state budget.
The funding will progress planning of targeted upgrades, including improvements to safety and capacity at Calder Park Interchange, and between Gap Road in Sunbury and the M80 Ring Road.
The budget also includes a $10 million pledge to upgrade Goonawarra Primary School.
The government will spend $215,000 of the $10 million in 2021-22, with the project expected to be completed in the second half of 2024.
Gisborne Secondary College will be modernised at a cost of $13 million, which, after a $270,000 spend in 2021-22, will be completed in 2025.
