BVP celebrates student with Rock Your Socks event
Giuliana Salvatore’s teacher, Casey Rainha, had her students at Blackstone Valley Prep write down what they learned about Down syndrome on these colorful paper socks and will participate in Rock Your Socks, a Down syndrome awareness event, on Friday, March 19. 
CUMBERLAND – In many ways, Giuliana Salvatore is just like any other 10-year-old. She goes to school, enjoys spending time with her friends, and experiences a range of emotions, from happy to sad and everything in between.
But what makes Salvatore, of Pawtucket, daughter of Andrea Riquetti and Ralph Salvatore, special, say those close to her, is that she has Down syndrome, which will be celebrated by her school, Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy in Cumberland, for World Down Syndrome Day. The event takes place on March 21 because people with Down syndrome have a third copy of their 21st chromosome, but since that’s a Sunday this year, the BVP community will celebrate on Friday, March 19.
