Butler County ending partnership with ICE

After 18 years, Butler County is ending a partnership with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE.
The Butler County Sheriff's Office has been under contract with the Department of Homeland Security, Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The sheriff's office would detain immigrants awaiting hearings in the Butler County Jail.
Sheriff Richard Jones announced Wednesday that he has notified ICE that effective immediately he will not be accepting any ICE detainees at the Butler County Jail.
In a press release, he said he will be terminating the contract to house immigrants in the future.
