Let me ask you a question . . . Has anyone ever begged you to do something for a good cause, or on a dare . . . and you agreed to do it . . . and then later on you had second thoughts? Well, that's what I thought. I guess we all have. But you are stuck with your decision, and you follow through. It just takes willpower and courage. Here is an example of some good guys who had a LOT of courage and true dedication to their hometown . . .
In 1976, during our nation's Bicentennial, the town of Darlington held a beauty contest during their Pioneer Power Days festival. I use the term "beauty" with much reservation, as the contestants were 13 local MEN . . . dressed as women, each representing a town or locale. The bevy of beauties were as follows: Miss Smartsburg – Mike Cohee; Miss Garfield – Damon Endicott; Miss Kirkpatrick – Denny East; Miss Colfax – Mike Spears; Miss Bowers – Jim Ryker; Miss Darlington – Bob Weliever; Miss Mace – Andy Endicott; Miss Manchester – Dean Endicott; Miss Linden – Bob Hole; Miss Linnsburg – Gary Dale; Miss New Ross – Hurshel Norton; Miss Cherry Grove – Tom McMurry; and Miss Shannondale – Doug Hardwick. Each contestant had their choice of wearing formal attire or swimwear. The truly crazy ones, like my brother Gary, chose swimwear.
