BUSHNELL — The Bushnell-Prairie City CUSD 170 Board voted to approve changes to the junior high school schedule, including the creation of a 12 period day.
Incoming junior high school principal Nathan Harrison said the changes in the schedule will allow students to participate in fine arts and agriculture electives for all three grade levels and will provide additional reading, writing and math instruction.
He said his goal of expanding reading, writing and math instruction was to help junior high students do well in all subjects, not just their language arts and math classes. Both Superintendent Kathy Dinger and school board member John Oakman said additional reading and writing instruction would help students out in their science and social studies classes. Oakman said he was not sure how the district could incorporate math in their social studies classes.
