PETALING JAYA: Bursa Malaysia Bhd’s net profit soared 88% to RM121.39 million in the first quarter ended March 31, 2021 from RM64.73 million reported in the same quarter of the previous year, on the back of higher operating revenue.
Revenue for the quarter stood at RM232.28, a 54.1% jump from RM150.75 million reported previously.
Securities market registered trading revenue of RM150.9 million compared to RM78.1 million in Q1’20, increased by 93.3% due to higher average daily trading value (ADV) for on-market trades (OMT) in Q1’21.
Derivatives market trading revenue decreased by 15.7% to RM22.6 million in Q1’21 from RM26.7 million in Q1’20, mainly due to lower number of contracts traded for Crude Palm Oil Futures and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Futures, as well as the lower number of trading days in the current quarter under review. Average daily contracts saw a decrease of 6.1%, with 80,338 contracts in Q1’21 compared to 85,578 contracts in Q1’20.
