Burrows, who is the sponsor of the bill in the 87th Texas Legislature, shared details about the large amount of testimony that has been heard in the recent hearing about the bill.
While condensing the wide-ranging nature of the hearings and testimony, Burrows said,
I think it was a very good hearing...You heard yesterday from the NRA, who came out strongly in support of the Second Amendment protections put in the bill to make sure guns can't get confiscated and gun stores can't be targeted and closed down. You heard small businesses come and talk about the importance of protecting taxpayers, both business and individuals from having raised property taxes in times of pandemic. You heard a lot of people including our own Lubbock Chamber of Commerce's Eddie McBride talking about the importance of the COVID liability protections...You heard from hospitals, retailers, trucking, builders, a bunch of industry, talking about the importance of...having a unified approach and stopping local orders that were often used to, not really do pandemic things, but to target businesses.
