Demand continues to exceed supply for affordable housing in Chittenden County.
Juniper House, an affordable housing development built by Cathedral Square, opened on Cambrian Way off North Avenue in Burlington last week, welcoming 70 new households to its one- and two-bedroom apartments. There were 423 people left on a wait list, however, hoping for a spot in the development.
Juniper House is limited to residents age 55 and older, and was developed in response to the need for affordable housing for older Vermonters in particular in Chittenden County, where the vacancy rates are below 1%.
Cathedral Square, founded in 1977, is a nonprofit dedicated to building housing for low- and modest-income older adults and people with special needs. It has helped to create more than 1,200 affordable homes in Vermont.
