Extensions to the COVID-19-inspired apprenticeship wage subsidy and instant asset write-off schemes will allow construction businesses to invest in the people and equipment needed to service a strong pipeline of infrastructure work, according to those in the industry.

The budget also committed $2.7 billion to extending apprentice wage subsidies introduced early in the pandemic, which will see the Morrison government pay 50 per cent of traineesâ first-year salaries.
Simon Marr, who hired two apprentices on the back of the original subsidy and plans to take on more, said the schemeâs extension would prompt businesses to push ahead with hiring despite COVID-19.
