News that British Airways has announced plans to suspend 13 destinations, including the direct Durban – London route, has been met with disappointment by KwaZulu-Natal’s (KZN) Economic Development and Tourism Department… as well as understanding.
The department’s Ravi Pillay has warned this will hamper growth of international air services into the province post-Covid-19, but said BA’s decision should be seen in the broader context of an organisation that has worked hard to keep flying, despite the pandemic affecting its entire global operations.
British Airways’ decision to suspend the flights during the upcoming summer season are part of the airline’s efforts to cut costs and adjust to the lower level of travel demand in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
