MOREWOOD — Veterans’ Affairs Canada has provided $25,000 from its Commemorative Partnerships Program to support the rehabilitation and improvement of the cenotaph in this North Dundas village.
Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry MP Eric Duncan confirmed the grant in an announcement distributed Monday, indicating it will help ensure the project meets its costs, which are estimated at $63,000. The cenotaph in Morewood was completely unveiled in July 1921, and contains the name of 20 people who died while serving in overseas wars.

The project includes cleaning, examining, and ensuring the structural integrity of the existing monument; repairing a damaged First World War plaque; adding a plaque for a missing soldier; and adding pillars around the cenotaph with images of the soldiers etched on top.
