Bridge to Terabithia
Need a cry? Look no further than this 2007 movie, which tore me to pieces when I was 11 and has never failed to bring me to tears on repeat viewings.
It can be over-sentimental and saccharine in moments, but it’s also a kids’ film, so why shouldn’t it be? If you’ve read the book, you know the story, but if you haven’t: Josh Hutcherson and AnnaSophia Robb play 12-year-old neighbours who invent a secret fantasy world together and use it to escape from the reality of their small-town lives.
It’s also a fun film to play “spot the New Zealand landmark” in: it was shot in and around Auckland.
