An Israeli airstrike on Saturday, 15 May, demolished the 13-floor building housing various foreign media organizations.
The airstrike destroyed a tower block in Gaza City housing the offices of the Associated Press and Al Jazeera in what has widely been decried as an attack on press freedom.
”Israel destroyed Jala Tower in the Gaza Strip, which contains the Al Jazeera and other international press offices,” Al Jazeera said in a tweet, with an AP journalist saying the army had warned the tower’s owner ahead of the strike.
AFP journalists watched the building collapse to the ground after the Israeli airstrike, sending up a huge mushroom cloud of dust and debris.
