David Brabham was Roland Ratzenberger’s last teammate, the pair driving for the struggling Simtek in 1994 until that fateful day – 30 April 1994 – at the San Marino Grand Prix, a weekend that scarred motorsport forever.
At the time, Brabham like Ratzenberger was trying to break into Formula 1 and the underfunded but ambitious Simtek team was a foot in the door.
The youngest son of legendary Sir Jack Brabham may not have achieved the greatness his triple-F1 World Champion father but he was an accomplished racing driver winning the 2009 Le Mans 24-Hours with Alex Wurz and Marc Gené.
