Boys & Girls Club of Newark Youth of the Year Honoree Earns Full-Ride Scholarship to College

NEWARK, NJ — When Cielo Marrero steps foot on campus at Monmouth University come fall, she will be able to attend the university under the benefit of a full-ride scholarship thanks in part to her efforts with the Boys & Girls Club of Newark.
As a migrant from the Dominican Republic, Cielo came to the states about 10 years ago where she soon challenged herself to learn a second language, improve her reading and writing skills, and speak English. Coming from her native country, Cielo explained that her arrival in the United States came as a whole new experience on top of juggling responsibilities at home with her mother, Ana, and three siblings, Katharine, Rose Mary, and Albert.
