BOSTON — For the first time in 45 years, Boston won't be ringing in the new year with a dazzling fireworks display.
First Night Boston, which runs the New Year's Eve celebration, said this year's display is canceled due to the pandemic. The last time Boston didn't celebrate with fireworks was 1975.
Rather, First Night Boston will be broadcasting a live stream of performances on its website beginning at 6 p.m. The Makanda Project, Boston Youth Chamber, Boston Gay Men's Chorus and the Old South Church are among the performers.
