BORDENTOWN CITY — Clara Barton responded to over 60,000 letters from families searching for loved ones who were missing after the Civil War. In 1948, a postage stamp was made to honor her memory.
And now — just one week from her 199th birthday — the post office in the city where she co-founded the first public school in New Jersey will be named in her honor.
U.S. Rep. Andy Kim, D-3 of Moorestown, announced Thursday the U.S. Senate passed legislation to rename the Bordentown Post Office on Walnut Street after Barton, one of the city's most famous residents and a women's rights trailblazer.
