“The Nature of Oaks: The Rich Ecology of Our Most Essential Native Trees” by Douglas W. Tallamy ($27.95, Timber Press): The author captured my attention with the first paragraph of the prologue. The parallels between his story and my husband’s and my experience are amazing. We also acquired an untended property in 2000. Our 10 acres of oak woodland also were just grasses and invasive species, mainly star thistle, with only a few majestic native black and white oaks.
