A CORONER has called for more education on prescription drug tolerance after a 26-year-old ‘inadvertently’ overdosed trying to overcome severe pain.
Amy Ganner, of Atherton, died on January 6 after suffering with endometriosis, a condition that affects the lining of the womb.
Strong painkillers are used to treat the illness, along with a combination of other drugs.
An inquest was held into Amy’s death at Bolton Coroner’s Court on June 22 by Simon Nelson, assistant coroner for Manchester West, at which the cause of death was ‘combined drugs toxicity’, and the conclusion ‘misadventure’.
In a ‘report to prevent future deaths', Amy’s death was said to be “against a background of complex health conditions, with chronic pain the deceased inadvertently ingested an excessive amount of prescribed medication prior to being discovered on January 6.”
