(Photo courtesy of BOC-POM) MANILA - The Bureau of Customs-Port of Manila (BOC-POM) on Thursday reported the seizure of at least PHP500 million worth of smuggled goods in Cavite. In a statement, the bureau said the goods were discovered in an inspection at a warehouse located at 9172 Antero Soriano Highway, Barangay Mulawin in Tanza town on Wednesday. Armed with a letter of authority (LOA) issued by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, personnel from the POM's Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service Field Office (CIIS) and Enforcement and Security Service (ESS) found assorted Chinese food items and beverages, and medical protective masks inside the warehouse. They also discovered fake goods bearing signature brands such as Jordan, Nike, Crocs, and Havaianas, among others. The items were found to be distributed locally by a group of Chinese nationals led by a certain Anna Ty and Willy Zhang. Members of the Philippine Coast Guard and the National Bureau of Investigation also joined the inspection team. A further investigation is underway for possible filing of charges against Ty and Zhang for violation of Section 1114 of Republic Act 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. (PNA) }
