Boardwalk Demolition OK'd Following Emotional Hearing

More than 80 people packed a meeting room and spilled out into the hallway of the Human Services Building on Wednesday night, July 14, to support—or to damn—a plan to tear down and replace the iconic Sandwich Boardwalk.
The standing-room only crowd came to bear witness to the Sandwich Historic District Committee’s deliberations on two separate questions: should the current boardwalk be razed; and should the proposed replacement structure be granted a certificate of appropriateness?
The committee voted 3-2 to grant a demolition permit after hearing more than an hour of presentations from the applicant and public comments, pro and con.
