The Ecosse was the production version of Ascari's funky 1995 FGT concept, which had similar looks but a Chevy V-8 mounted behind the cabin. The production BMW 4.4-liter V-8 was tuned by Hartge, and made 304 horsepower when new. It was powerful enough to propel the 2755-pound fiberglass-bodied car to 200 mph—no small feat, even for today's performance cars.
This particular car is one of just 19 Ecosses built, and one of just two left-hand-drive examples. Though it was registered in the U.K. for most of its life, it spent the majority of its time at the Ascari Race Resort circuit in southern Spain. In 2011 it was exported to the Netherlands, where it remains today. It's covered 12,000 miles since new, with the only modification being a dogleg six-speed manual transmission in place of the original five-speed unit.
