Mondelea Bezuidenhout, 35, originally from South Africa, has been told if she doesn't lose more weight then she will have to leave New Zealand.
Danielle Garvey from Lower Hutt was denied breast reduction surgery because of the risks associated with obesity, including a potentially deadly response to anaesthetic. She argued that nearly 10 per cent of her weight was in her breasts.
It was not the first time she was denied medical assistance due to her BMI.
“I was also turned down for IVF treatments... the hormone treatment I’m on [for anovulation] has caused a lot of my weight gain.”
