The White House Press conference is going on. The president was examined last week, and the doctor is about to take the podium. He is being introduced by Sarah Huckabee sanders. Ms. Sanders Donald Trumps first exam as president of the united states, having the opportunity to analyze the results and discuss with his patients, he will provide us with his considered assessment of the president s medical theess for duty now and for remainder of his term and for office. With regard to fridays examination, knowing the doctor, i am confident he practiced good medicine. However, it would be an error to view the exam and dr. Jacksons isolated when it is an ongoing process. Far more important to a meaningful assessment to the president s assessment is the doctors evaluation, andvations, conversations more during the remaining 360 four days of the year. Dr. Jackson has been doing exactly that from the moment donald j. Trump was elected. Members of the white house medical unit began shattering the president , figuratively velcroed to him. Only oneons office is of the very few and the white house, located directly across the hall from the president s private elevator. Thank you to the Brigadier General for that background and that information, and with that, i will turn it over to dr. Jackson good afternoon, everyone. So to start with, im going to read to the summary of the president s physical, so i will just repeat it is, and after i am done reading this, immediately after the brief, i will make this available to everyone exactly as i have read it here and will take questions. Its routine vaccinations to include routine influenza are and his travel vaccinations are uptodate. In summary, excellent. His cardiac performance was very good. He continues to enjoy significant, longterm cardiac and Overall Health benefits from a lifetime abstinence from tobacco and out of all. We discussed diet and weight loss. He would benefit from a diet that is lower in fat and hydrates and a exercise program. Lower in fat and carbohydrates and an exercise program. A will increase the dose of medication. The president is currently uptodate on all recommended screening tests and exams. All Clinical Data is that the president is healthy and that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency. Ok. With that, i will take some questions. Before you start, let me just make one comment. I just want to point out to many of you in the room, many of whom know me. If you should fall ill at point, most likely i will be the one called. So when you ask your questions, keep that in mind. [laughter] jackson, how much weight have you suggested the president lose . He has not exactly been enthusiastic about exercising. A finite battery, why waste it on exercise . What did you counsel him about that . Dr. Jackson that is right. He and i talked, and i think a reasonable goal over the next year is to lose 10 to 15 pounds. We talked about diet and exercise. We are going to do both. He and i will Work Together over the next year to incorporate a good plan so that we can meet those goals. Number one, as part of your exam, about his Mental Fitness. Can you assess the president s Mental Fitness . Dr. Jackson absolutely. So many of you may have picked up on the fact that we did a cognitive assessment as part of the exam. I had no intention of including a cognitive assessment during this exam, because, to be honest with you, according to all of the guidelines out there, it is not indicated at this time. Suggest youdelines do cognitive screening questions, and if you have a positive or concerning answer, then you engage with a cognitive screening tool. I had no intention of doing that because i did not feel it was clinically indicated, and part of the reason i did not feel it was clinically indicated is that i have spent almost every day in the presence of the president since last year when he got into office, and i have seen him every day. I see him 1, 2, three times a day because of the location of my office. We have conversations about many things, and i got to know him pretty well, and i have absolutely no concerns about his cognitive ability or his neurological function, so i was not going to do a cognitive exam. I had no intention of doing one. The reason we did the cognitive assessment is plain and simple because the president asked me to do it. He came to me and said, is there something we can do to assess my cognitive ability . And so i looked into it, and once again, my initial impression was that i did not think we should do it. After looking at some of the guidelines, there are a few guidelines out there that lean in the direction of potentially doing it, the medicare guidelines and some of the nih, National Institute of aging, they have indicated it would be a good thing to start doing for most patients. Mind, i looked for the cognitive of vestments available. Most of them were very simple and very short, and i think that is the goal for primary care providers, to keep it simple, keep it short. We picked one of the ones that was a little bit more involved and was one of the more difficult to complete, but the president did exceedingly well on it, so that was not driven at all by any clinical concerns i had. It was driven by the president s wishes, and he did well on it. During the campaign, it was said he would be the healthiest president ever. Do you agree with that . Dr. Jackson i am not going to comment on that. My position is to give you information about President Trumps health. It is not mine about the past 200 years. There was an incident recently were the president appeared to slur his words while giving an address. And you look into what the cause of that might have been . I did. Kson and one of my consultants was involved. We evaluated him and check everything out. Everything was normal. We even went so far as to do an ultrasound of his carotid glands, and i think the reason for that was, i think i need a drug of water, but i had given the president some medication, overfically some sudafed the days president , and i think i had kind of inadvertently dried up his secretions theifically some sudafed day before, and i think i had kind of inadvertently dried up his secretions. My wife suffers from that. Is that a concern, Going Forward for him, because dr. Jackson no, there is no concern. For the cholesterol, do you hope to get it under 200 . Dr. Jackson we are not focusing on total cholesterol as much as we are with ldl. We want to get that down. And i understand his Blood Pressure was normal, but high cholesterol, any concerns for his heart . No, not at all. There are many good things that came from his exam. He had great findings across the board, that the one that stands out to me is his cardiac health is excellent. With all of the other things in place, he does not really have a Family History of premature cardiac disease. He does not smoke. He does not have diabetes, a lot of the traditional risk factors, so i think those things in combination with the excellent cardiac results that we got from the exercise stress test are very reassuring. You did a great job at that. What you world out, there have been reports that the president has forgotten names what you thereout ruled out, have been reports of the president has forgotten names. And then getting people tips before they walk out of the door in terms of behavior. What did you tell the president outside of diet that he might want to change . Dr. Jackson yes, i think that cognitive test is well respected. It is a test that is used throughout the united states. Lots and lots of institutions use that test. It is the one used at walter reed for patients they feel they want to do a cognitive screen on. It is universally accepted. As i said, it is more intensive than some of the guidelines, but it screams for all kinds of things, any type of cognitive issues, alzheimers, so just the fact that the president got 30 out of 30 on that exam, i think there is no concern that he has any cognitive issues, and on a daytoday basis, it has been my experience at the president , he is very sharp. He is very articulate when he speaks to me, and i have never known him to repeat himself around me. He says what he has to say and speaks his mind. I have found no reason whatsoever to think that the president has any issues whatsoever with his thought process. Did you make any recommendations that he make any changes, like the haverhill . Dr. Jackson diet and exercise. If we get diet and exercise rights, the weight loss will calm. Those other things we focused on. There was a lot to go on here in terms of making them healthier in the year coming, other than incorporating the exercise routine, exercise. Those things will make him much healthier year, though he is healthy now. Those things will make them much healthier next year, though he is healthy now. You want to ask a question . We did a ct scan. Old just xrays or that to look at. I was going to get a chest xray and be done with that, but it is so easy these days. It just takes a minute or two, about as much time to get a cat scan as it takes to get an xray, and you get more, so it made sense to get the ct done. I wanted toiogram, prescribe an exercise program for the president , so i think it makes sense to get a good cardiac assessment in a controlled environment like a hospital for you prescribe an exercise program to a patient. He does have Heart Disease, is that what you said . He does not have Heart Disease. Technically, he has nonclinical aqua sclerotic ar he had arotic score done that with 34 in 2009 and another score in 2013 that was 90 at, and we got the calcium score. It was clinically good information. Was 133. I had a long conversation with the cardiologist, not only at walter reed but at Cleveland Clinic and several other wellknown institutions, and everyone thought it was reassuring that he has gone this amount of time and has had that little change in his coronary overall, thatso score is very reassuring along with the other cardiac findings. The 25th amendment, it basically contemplates that if a group of Senate Confirmed lehman that the think president cannot perform the duties of his office, on what basis would you, and this is just a philosophical question, that you would advise them that the president is unable to discharge the duties of his office . Dr. Jackson well, a section of that amendment does not really give me a specific duty or role in that. Like you said, it falls on the cabinet and members of congress and all. I think i am just like any other member of the administration who talks to him on a regular basis. If i had concerns about his cognitive ability to the extent that i would bring that up to the proper people in the chain of command, maybe starting off with the chief of staff or something, and i think that is what everyone else in the administration would do. I do not think my role of physician would be much different than any other member of the president S Administration if they thought Something Like that were going on. I just think that once that happened, i would immediately be brought into it to make the clinical assessment if i agreed but atat assessment, this particular point, based on testing thatnitive we did and just my daytoday interactions with the president , the president is mentally very sharp, very intact. Do you believe he is fit for duty . Jackson i do. I feel he is fit for duty for the remainder of this term and fit for another term if he is reelected. How can you determine that . Jackson absolutely. I do not have a crystal ball, but based on his cardiac assessment, you can make projections. You can make cardiac calculations, and you can see what his risk of having a cardiac or vascular event may be, so if you look at that stuff, where he falls out on his cardiac assessment, he falls into a category that portends free living, so, sure, i myself can have a big event tomorrow. I am not making that kind of prediction. But i am saying based on the clinical information i have right now over the year of me observing him and a few things that have happened to him medically over the year, in large part on the objective data that we got from this particular exam, i feel very confident that he has a very strong and a very probable possibility of making it completely through his presidency with no serious medical issues. You talked about dealing with President Trump on a daily basis. Him as aalk about patient, what kind of patient he is, if he takes all of your advice, and you talked about dealing with him on a daily basis. Has he had any ongoing issues . And does he have any allergies or anything like that . Dr. Jackson id occasion, he does suffer from the same viral and upper respiratory stuff that you and i do, and he gets congestion and things of that nature on occasion, he does suffer from some of the same things. I guess, the way he grew up, he takes care of most of the little stuff himself. He does not come to me for bandaids and things of that nature. I am easily accessible, and a lot of folks will. He is a good patient. He sometimes, you know, i have to convince him why i want him to do something, so we just does not take everything i say and take it at face value and move on. He would ask me questions about, why should i do that . For the most part, he is very cooperative. Like any other patient, and i sometimes have to get the first lady involved to make sure he is doing things. [laughter] when you analyzed his cognitive ability and his neurological functions, that is not the same as a psychiatric exam. , it is not. No it is a screening for Cognitive Impairment. Ther. Jackson, does president do anything at all for exercise . What does the exercise include question what dr. Jackson i would say right now on a daytoday basis, he does not have a defined exercise program. That is what i am working on. On that pretty easily, so [laughter] were discussing that with him. What would you like to see him start doing . Said, heon like i does not have a daily exercise regimen. Some people exercise. Some people do not. Parthave not done that as of their routine, and i would say that is the category he falls in right now. That, one ofespite the things, being with the president on a daytoday basis, what is impressive to me is that he has a lot of energy, a lot of energy and a lot of stamina. Onhink i first noticed that overseas travel last year, and i was really surprised, because i did not know the president early on. We would get these 14hour and like,r days, and you are man, when are we going to the hotel . You have all of those issues of different time zones and things of that nature, too, and i will tell you out of anybody there, the president is the one who had the most stamina. He is the one who was, we are not going to skip this. Stamina and energy. Guy who eats mcdonalds and all of those diet cokes and never exercises be as healthy as you say . Dr. Jackson genetics. I do not know. I justincredible genes, the same. I i did not watch what i ate, would not have the cardiac and Overall Health that he has. He is very healthy despite those things, and i do not think he does that anymore. At the white house, he is eating what the chefs are cooking for him, and they are putting him on a healthier diet, and we will continue to work to make that healthier, but like i said, he is incredibly healthy genes. Thank you. A test print was that the many medical mini medical . Dr. Jackson it was the montreal test, sometimes called the moca, and you can find it online. What does the plan look like . Also, did you see any evidence of bone spurs . Has not beenthat bothering him recently, so we did not examine him for bone spurs right now. He has not come to me complaining of that, so there was no reason with this particular assessment. We were pretty crunched for time, so we did not look at that issue. I did not assess that, no. As far as life expectancy, he probably will not live to be 200. I would have to say it is the same of any other american right now, but it is certainly no less. The guided exercise plan, what is in store . Dr. Jackson we are working on that. I am getting a nutrition expert and willith the chefs go over the preparation of the president s food just to make sure that we are cutting the calories and the facts and the carbohydrates as much as we can and still make good meals for him. With regards to the exercise, that is something that myself and potentially mrs. Trum will work with him. Mrs. Trump will work with him. I do not limit his diet at all. I just make recommendations. Is there anything in his notrds or that you are allowed to tell us, anything you are keeping from us . I can tell either is absolutely nothing that i am withholding. Have done the last four or five of these. I have been involved probably in six or seven of these, and this is hands down more information that has been put forth of any other assessment to date. Friday was a good day for me. Friday may today it exceptionally easy for me. Friday made today exceptionally easy for me. The past medical records to the extent they were made available to me, and there is nothing concerning. To where president reagan was at this time, can you say given that there is scrutiny over what was overlooked, in atms of alzheimers disease a later date, can you say that the test that you ran would exclude any of those things, and what is the possibility of us looking at Something Like that . That thatn i can say test, and i do not know president reagans medical condition, and i did not know what his condition was like towards the end of his residency. I have seen the documentaries, just like everyone else here. Lets assume he had some evidence of Cognitive Impairment towards the end of his presidency. I think i can reliably say, and i think the folks in the Mental Health community out there would back me up on the fact that if he had some type of mental cognitive issue that this test is sensitive enough, it would pick up on it. He would not have gotten a 30 30 on the test, so im very confident at this particular stage that he is nothing like that going on. His personal experience is that he has absolutely no cognitive or mental issues whatsoever, that he is very sharp. You confident of his Prostate Health . Psa. Ited a very low i you concerned about masking question were dr. Jackson it is very low about masking . Jackson it is very low. A lot of people would recommend that you do not even do a psa anymore. I did one because we had i long history of that on past medical records, and had i seen a large bump in psa, i would be concerned, but we are not going that way. Going that way. Measurement . Bmi. Ackson you can do a we do not do measurements. Hell be healthier if he lost a few pounds. And gettingements some other form of calculation would not have really change anything clinically for us. The future, because of his age and continuing the physicals in the future, will you continue cognitive testing . Jackson that will be up to the president , because like i said before, i did not think it was clinically needed. Basis to him on a regular and will spend lots and lots of time with him over the next year, and if there is any indication that we need to do with, or if i come up with anything on any of his exams that clinically recommends we do that, i will do it. Short of that, if the president wants to do one next year, then we will do one next year. Screening for hepatitis a and b, did you screen for hepatitis c . In hiskson i found that past medical record, but i did not do that this time. House, diet at the white can you flush that out a little bit . Eating lots of chicken and fish is an white meat . Also, does he take a sleep aid . Jackson first of all, i have to admit to you that i see what he eats on the plane some, which is usually fairly healthy meals minus the deserts that we get, but i have not been is actively involved in his diet as i will be in the year to come, so i do not have a lot of information on that right now. To get aked me nutrition is involved, which basically has given me permission to be involved in that, and i will. So i will have more information on that. And then what was your other question . The president does take some all do for we overseas travel. So when we travel from one time zone to another time zone on the other side of the planet, i recommend that everyone on the plane take a sleep aid at a certain time so that we can try our best to get on the schedule of our destination, so he has on those occasions done that. Only in travel. He get onh sleep does average . Dr. Jackson he does not sleep much. This is only my guess. I did not asking this question, so i do not have an answer. I think he sleeps four or five hours a night. I think he has been that way his whole life. I think that is one of the things that has led to his success. He is one of those people who does not need a lot of sleep. If the president does not make changes to his diet and start to exercise and can you tell us how long the examination was from start to finish at how many people were involved . Dontckson yes, so, i know. At this time next year, we will do a lot of the same tests, a cardiac assessment and those, and we will look at it. With the changes, i assume he will be in even better shape than he is right now. We will see if he has eaten better and has lost a few pounds , but even if he has not, we will make that assessment without doing a lot of the objective testing, and then the other question was how long was the exam, and how many people were involved . Aboutckson the exam was four hours, and i had a total of about 12 consultants involved. I do not execute these physicals in a vacuum. I have a lot of specialists available to me, just like on a daytoday basis, i am somewhat of a quarterback, so i spent weeks speaking with consultants and trying to figure out how to plan appropriately and what was appropriate for his exam, so it was the team members with a lot of physicians at walter reed who did a great job taking care of it. Dr. Jackson, was there anything that the president or other specifically said not to mention today . Dr. Jackson absolutely not. He said, absolutely, i do not care. That, somew up on have said that he is a german germophobe. Do you see anything like that . Dr. Jackson he washes his hands manyses purel, and as hands as he shakes, he should be. I would like for him to continue ophobe and make my job easier. Compared to an average 71yearold . Doubt, he is in the excellent range, and that is not me speaking. That is objective. He would definitely fall in that category. That cardiac or everything . Dr. Jackson cardiac and his vision. He is 71 years old, and his corrected vision is 20 30. He can drive if he wants to without glasses. Cannotf people his age do that, so i think if you look at a lot of things across the board, he is very healthy. Out in the i put statement that President Trump is excellent, because his Overall Health is excellent. I there are a few things he can do to make himself healthier with diet and exercise . Absolutely. He is tracking that and i am tracking that, but overall, he has very excellent health. And thethe crestor weight, borderline obese, you calculate that as excellent . Jackson there are stroke issues there also. We are focusing on his cardiac theth, an indicator of what rest of his Vascular Health might be like. He has no evidence of peripheral vascular disease. His heart exam like i said was in the excellent category or his age and sex, so i think that despite that that you mentioned, i think he is doing a decent job with his cholesterol. I would say that the dose of his cholesterol medicine is very low. Room toa lot of increase that. Most cardiologists would put a patient on a larger dose to start with. Ldl i suspect his ldl will fall even more. I do not think he has got much room to do anything else. I was talking to dr. Gupta. It is not just his heart. He is asking questions about Vascular Health and Heart Disease and stroke. I am saying we are looking at that, looking at his Vascular Health overall, and he looks very good right now. Changes, what about the potential because of his weight as he gets older . Yes, that is always a possibility. We will monitor that. , he has no blood evidence of diabetes at all, so it will continue to be a routine thing that we do every year with fasting blood glucose and hemoglobin. Will test his hearing. The only reason i did not test his hearing is that i didnt have enough time to do it on this particular exam. We had to make some conscious decisions about what we did and did not do, and hearing seemed to glow on the priority list, and that is something i can do it any given point, and i will do that and do a baseline hearing test just because i normally do that. The president , will he be sedated . Dr. Jackson that will be up to the president. I will recommend that he is, because you can do virtual colonoscopies where you are not sedated. I have had patients to both. I am a big fan of the optical colonoscopy. I will opt for an optical colonoscopy. Recommendations. With the chief of staff and the National Security council and everybody else. I will not make that decision, but i will be a part of that discussion. Are you saying the president was the one who requested the cognitive test, that was not necessarily needed for someone . Did he tell you why she wanted it done . There has been a lot of speculation out there about his cognitive state. Was he upset with some of that talk . What were the discussions that you had for why he told you he wanted to do it . Why did he say he wanted to do would question what dr. Jackson he was not upset, but this has been a part of the narrative for a while, and i think he saw doing the physical as an opportunity to put some of that to rest, and he was not obviously believed bit concerned ,hat he had anything to hide and he asked me to include that, and we did. Is there something that made him say, hey, this is what i want to do, or was this a question of criticisms . Dr. Jackson the reason it came up as i was going over the physical exam, and i was giving him a physical rundown of what we were going to do, and he asked me if i could include that in the assessment, and so it was not driven by anything he had heard. I had no idea. He did not discuss it with me. He just asked me, hey, can we do this, so we did. The present stress level in your examinations, did he express in the change about how stressful this job is as a result of becoming president . Talked ton i have them sometimes about stress because i think it is my job as a position to bring it up on occasion, as i do with many other members of the administration. I have never seen the president stressed out about too much. The one thing i have noticed about him that i think is unique , and this is just my personal opinion, nothing to do with my medical assessment, but i think one of the things that he has woulds unique that i assume has probably lead to some of his success over the years, he has a very unique ability to just get up in the morning and reset. I have seen it before, where things are going on, and a lot of people around him and myself up i were in that situation, i would get up the next morning, and the next day would build on the day before, and i would have more in more stress. Pushs a unique ability to the reset button, and he just starts a new day, and i think overall, that has helped him with his stress level and made him healthier from a stress standpoint. Questions forp on my call exhibit the exercise routine and that you have had conversations with him. Someu think there are exercises that you and the president are considering as you ook at this regime . Dr. Jackson there are things you can do, the stationary box, the elliptical, the treadmill. I want to do something that is low impact. I do not want to do anything that will cause the president to have joint issues or things of that issue. I think i will look at doing things aerobically that will have a low impact on his joints and research what is the best option. [indiscernible] jackson i will not comment on that. If it were my fiveyearold, i might talk about how much he watches tv, but that is not something i will comment on. The watching versus the active lifestyle part of it. Dr. Jackson i dont know. I do not know what he is doing while he is watching tv. He might be in the office. I think you probably spend as much time seated in a sedentary role that many of us do with office jobs. I do not know that the watching tv contributes to that much, in my opinion. Cognitivee assessment, what is your take on all of the doctors who say that they see symptoms of this, that, and the other . Of . Jackson symptoms dementia. Dr. Jackson the American Psychiatric group said so also. I do not think they should be doing that. They should get to know him. In my opinion, i am not going to to respondingfall to those kinds of questions or accusations. Would you describe his diet before he became president . Burgers . Problematic question mark dr. Jackson i did not know the president before january 20, so i never saw him eat a meal before january 20, so i have no information on that. You have said you are not sure how much sleep he gets a night but said four or five hours. Does that concern you . It does not concern me because i think he has always been that way. It works for him. It would not work for me, but it works for him. Sure, if he could get more sleep, that would be great, but i do not think that is likely to happen. The current president against his predecessors, their exercise routine, and does the president ask you how he can use predecessor examples to be as fit as, say, barack obama was, and do you keep a tally on how much golf the president plays . That is something the president repeatedly does not tell us. Do you keep a tally . No, i am not in that conversation, no, i do not keep a tally, and with golf, there is a certain amount of exercise involved with that. Next question. Medications . Dr. Jackson he does not take any other medications than what i have described here. A further psychological exam . Dr. Jackson like i said, you can look online and see what it is about. Just pull it up online, the montreal cognitive assessment. You can see right there and see all of what it entails. It does whirl out the need to do any other cognitive testing. The need toule out do any other cognitive testing. Normal. If you get 30 30, i think you can confidently assume you are done with the cognitive workup for now. Twitter does not involve me as a doctor. I do not have any concern on that. Dr. Jackson, the president is the first teetotal and nonsmoker to sit in office since jimmy carter, and you say that has extended his life in any way, and makes him unusually healthier for his age . Say in myn i would opinion it has had an impact, especially the smoking part. He has incredible cardiac fitness at this point in his life, and i large part of that is probably due to the fact that he has had a life of abstinence from tobacco and alcohol, particularly tobacco. Doctors withnch of the exam, and their other questions. Is there anyone on the president s medical team such as a psychiatrist or a psychologist, whose job it is to monitor the president s or watch forte potential psychiatric problems . Dr. Jackson no, that is not anyones official duty. I have all specialists at my disposal, both civilian and military, including psychiatry should i need them, but that is really my job as his primary care doctor, and i and pretty suited for it in the sense that i see him on a regular basis every day, so i think that falls upon me to do that. Any recommendations for the president now, first and foremost like medications or ew medications, mindfulness, where do you stand on that . Dr. Jackson there are relaxation methods. I think in general any of us can find the time to do that, i think those are helpful. They make you healthier, so, yes, i am not opposed to him being involved in those types of things in the future. Realistically, what do you think you will be able to get him to do with exercise . Someackson we will make progress. We will see. Like i said, it is going to be something that spares his joints and is healthy for him, so we are going to work on that. Will you be working with the white house chef at all in formulating what kind of diet . Dr. Jackson am i working with him . Like i said, what, like i said, to this point, i have not been involved in that as much as i would like to be, but i will become much more involved in that relationship from this point forward since the president has given me direction to do so. Unit a statement saying that we expect the president to be in good health for the next youre even a second term if he gets it. Was it a request from the president to make that statement or anyone in the white house . No, absolutely not. Some of the us a question about fitness of duty, and it is a natural extension of the fitness of duty for now and for the remainder of his presidency, so i just follow that up with one term or two terms. Or to had prompted me answer in any such way. You have been answering questions here for more than 50 minutes, which i think is really extraordinary. Is that indication of the to put theseesire rumors and questions to rest . Dr. Jackson absolutely. The president encouraged me to come out. He said, i want you to get out there and talk to them and answer every single question they have. Sarah and said, sarah, i do not what you pulling him off of the stage until he is answered all of the questions. One, the president wants me up and, and two, up here, two, i was excited. I am enthusiastic to be a p are today. Another question about the mini exams. He other they are not really good at finding early signs of dementia. Will you do more . Dr. Jackson if he is worried about it, we will, but they are good at finding subtle cognitive changes. Ive read about him, you know, they will tell you the psychologist and psychologist will tell you that thatwill pick up stuff, even the patient is sometimes not aware of. I think they are great screening tools and short of having any type of issue with a cognitive screening tool, i wouldnt recommend doing anything beyond that. Are we saying that because of our issues raised in the issue about this president s cognitive testing, acuity testing, is not part of an annual physical with the president of the united states. No jackson as far as i know president has ever had a cognitive assessment. This is the only time im aware of it happening here and i look extensively, not to mention the fact that i know most of the physicians that have taken care of the last 3, 4, 5 president s and its never been done. Should it not be . Dr. Jackson my opinion, his position, no. If the American Public thinks thats part of an assessment or president , then i suppose they yourncorporate that into ability to run for president or serve in office, but thats not my call. I approached the president like i did any other patient and he has gone above and beyond what i would consider a room are meant to demonstrate his cognitive abilities. Play golf almost every weekend, is that help will for his health . Dr. Jackson i think so. Its a good way for him to relieve stress. If thats what he enjoys doing, i think its healthy for him to do it. You said he doesnt drink and doesnt smoke and other than the diet issue, is there drug addiction, any other drugs . Dr. Jackson no. He has no drug addictions to minot. Addictions, no. Im going to take one more russian from somebody else. One more question. Back there. Could you give us how involved the first family, first lady, and others are encouraging him to step up on dr. Jackson they are involved in it. Mrs. Aughter, ivanka, and trump are both proponents of eating healthy and exercising. He will be partners of mine in working this out. They are involved, absolutely. With all the questions that have been asked, going back to the issue, everybody has asked for mental acuity, and he told you to stay appear until the questions are answered, Going Forward would you recommend that the president undergo that type of assessment . Dr. Jackson no, im think so i dont think so. Im comfortable with the out rhythms that are out there. Most of them start with algorithms that the president notice in the family of the president and then they go to screening questions and a screening Assessment Tool like the one we used. Then they go on to other types of more detailed Mental Health assessment. I think theres a healthy algorithm in place and in the future that should be a decision between the president and the position. I would have no problem if somebody comes in and take my place. I think we follow that algorithm t,nd had we followed it to a we would never even done this test. Thank you for your time. I appreciate it. That was the position to the nny jacksondr. Ro with an official report about the president s health. Where do we go with this . More numbers thrown at us than was think the big question to what extent was the president s Mental Health tested. He indicated there was no clinical indication for a need to do a test for cognitive health. Emily but they did one because the president requested one specifically, the score was 30 out of 30 on the moca. And the doctor indicated he doesnt see a need to repeat the test, because there are no issues that he sees where he would be required to do so. And there julia was no indication for the early onset of alzheimers. This was seemingly overall very confident for the overall excellence, even the physical for the drugs the president is taking. Numbers thats about, the weight and health. 63, if you look at the bmi, you can put it into a bmi calculator. We are looking at overweight for its borderline. Exact exercise program. And that is more than you ever wanted to know about President Trump. Bloombergsis reporter on capitol hill. How is your medical knowledge . Im not an expert on that, an hour, ard for about dr. Jackson delivering information that reporters in the room wanted to know about President Trump. Giving the president overall a clean ill of health. His cholesterol is a little high. He should lose 10 to 15 pounds in the coming year. The information rereceived puts him in the you realm of overweight, almost of these, but not white. Julia you dont have to say anymore. Does this draw a line under the accusations . Then we can talk about a potential shutdown. Sahil i was following social media, it was important to know that dr. Jackson was also a position in the Obama White House and there are several officials who vouch for his integrity. They say he has solid credibility. I want to put that to rest. And another thing we should mention is the doctor sees the president on a daily basis. He sees them in the morning, he sees him at night. Its not as if did this one test and moved on your lets move on to policy as well, because the democrats want to set the government down for amnesty for all and border security. Where do we stand on this . Sahil between now and friday i think we are pretty close to being able to roll that out. Its difficult to see a deal coming together between now and friday that can pass a senate and house and be signed into law. Its very unlikely that we will come to a decision on the dreamers by the deadline. I think the question for the leaders now is what they can do, what they can put on the floor to avert a Government Shutdown on friday. There are options being considered including yet another government budget that will kick things to february and extend the Childrens HealthInsurance Program to win democratic support, but it will more than likely have to be bipartisan. Thank you for joining us. Amazing. An hourlong press conference on the president s medical exam. Incredible. Scarlet what we missed was the market close. Indicating we hit the p. M. N at about 2 45 since then we have bounced a cup a little bit and settled in the red for the major indexes. Or the s p this is the only second decline. Every other day was a record high. Miss . , thed you german chancellor struck a preliminary deal with the democrats to form a governing majority which will head to a party boat this weekend. 600 delegates must decide whether to pursue another coalition or return to opposition and factions are beginning to warm. ,e welcome now john emerson ambassador, thank you for coming on the show. John good to be here. Some factions already saying we should do this, going to the coalition and others saying it is hopeless, we should take a step away. How does it turn out . John hard to know. I think there are three steps. The first as you mentioned, i think there is the convention this weekend of the social democrats by the way the question is within the party where there is this many revolt going on, so it probably will pass this weekend in a relatively close vote. Then the aiken phase is to actually get into the nittygritty of negotiating a coalition of agreement. The have negotiated principles, but in the course of the negotiation you know the social democrats are going to try to get a little bit more so they can be assured of having the same passed by their base. But then the third step, they have agreed to allow Party Members to vote on the coalition of agreement itself. There was a poll published today in germany that shows that 56 of those who voted for the social democrats support a grand coalition. But thats not the people who are members of the party. The members of the party is a much smaller group. I think this one might go down to the wire, to be honest with you. Everyone knows that you cant please everyone at the same time. What are the sticking points between the spd and merkel hockey party, the christian democrats . John youre going to have bigger investment in education, increased minimum wage, issues that have been important for social democrats and their and constituencies. A couple of issues are pension reform, retirement age, in particular. Those are very tricky issues that are still sitting out there. There are a number of reef forms darted both before and during the economic crisis. And i think the social democrats want to roll some of those back. Thats part of the excuse, but if you look at the substance of umbrian mollis is a likely successor down the road, shes currently labor minister, she says this is a really good deal for us, you never going to get everything, but what may happen is you may have hoax who will use any you will have folks who blow up any deal because they dont want to deal. Happens, will merkel do a minority government . John then you would go to minority party. The only party that would be benefited by elections would be afc. For every substantive issue Angela Merkel have to find a new issue to scarlet our leaders getting tired of leadership, is that part of this . John i think her popularity is currently about where Barack Obamas was when he left office, but clearly, youre into this now, youre going into the year 13 of what would be a 16 year term. The germans historically have had long chancellor ships. She currently is only the third longest serving chancellor. Both from her party, incidentally. Find an alternative. John good point. Scarlet coming up, bitcoin tumbles 20 today. The biggest daily decline since 2015. What does that mean for selling pressures in the day to come . Julia from new york. This is bloomberg. Bad music for bitcoin, fell 25 today on a series of crypto crack downs here it a broader january selloff with athletic download of 35 . Joining us to discuss this is a irvin. Erg hockey rob and we hear this is part of a speculator switching with some of the smaller cryptocurrencies, not even a ripple, but some of the smaller lesserknown ones. Sure. One of the facts are reminded myself of here is that bitcoin go 32 of all cryptic currency. Cryptocurrency. There are many others. Many she was saying smaller ones have gone from 10 to 23 in one month. Rob thats right. Julia that accounts for some of the pressure packs we are seeing, people are buying alternatives. It could be. People are buying cheaper and betting on a bigger return. Its worth remembering that bitcoin is in a separate category, because their futures. Wall street is involved. Its mainstream. Rob slowly going mainstream. December 1. Ack to to close to 1200. A lot of those games were news about our theyre going to be futures, are these brokers going to be able to get into it and every bit of news, people push it up further spirit further. Hada before we have significant declines in it has bounced act again, but now we are talking about south korean regulators, regulators in china taking action. There are news elements here that have people looking at this going, ok, something may have changed. Would you agree or disagree . Its all sentiment. At some point the mom decides to expensive and decides to sell. At other times, nothing can dissuade them. Every thing you mentioned there was similar news over the past year. China started its crackdown in the summer. There have been all around the world there have been regulators looking at it. And i think Regulatory Risk remains a huge risk. My point, though, earlier is that a lot of that was offset at the back at it was simultaneously expanding to wall street with futures and those kinds of things. I think people would not expect regulators to essentially wipe out an asset class, but investors are just getting a the sec which are nominally involved have not really come down or they have asked questions. Extent i wonder to what he will are disappointed that Bitcoin Futures and suppose it had been hasnt materialized in higher prices like they thought it would. Rob well, volume is still quite small. There are a lot of other product that people are anticipating like etfs probably wont happen until the futures market is really robust. Scarlet all right. Thank you so much for joining us. Boohoo, 1200 isnt enough. Coming up next, and industrial giant is going to take an aftertax charge for longterm care insurance. Will clearing the books help ges turnaround. This is bloomberg. This is bloomberg. Whatd you miss . , shares of General Electric took the type today. The company said they would take an aftertax charge in the Fourth Quarter because of lingering problems in its insurance business. This suspect setting off rest speculation that a ge breakup may be on the cards. John flannery said we are orking at the best structure structures to maximize the potential of our businesses. Lets talk about whether or not there needs to be a broader breakup of this business. If we are talking about a 6. 2 billion dollar after tax charge, its provisioning for other issues and expected to raise cash flow this year, they only cut the dividend november, the map doesnt add up, do they . At the time they cut the dividend there were analysts saying its not not. Its industrial reit cash flow, they expect to get from their cash flow businesses, but they backout pension, capital expenditures, all of those things that most companies include in their cash flow numbers. Once you take that away, i have one estimate saying it would be zero. Then youre looking at a pretty hefty dividend. And ge would tell you that next year is still a reset year and they are looking at higher cash flow numbers in 2019, but still you have to wonder the long ending here. Scarlet you dont know of the kitchen sink was done with it. Julia exactly. Scarlet John Flannery still plans to focus on three core units, are they the right businesses to focus on . I think they are making the right choices so far. Transportation is one that make sense to get rid of, along with their lightbulb unit, but then i think you have to say ok, our, aviation, health care, two we need all three of these under one company. It is interesting because ive heard him a number of employees and you asked them, you are in the power business, the you benefit and the fact that de has an Aviation Business and theyre like no, i i get anything out of that. I think that is interesting and telling your in the question is what does te want to be. Health care and aviation are high growth industries. Does it want to rethink its identity . Julia throwing out the baby with the bathwater comes to mind. There is a model for this. Creating a similar a Holding Company structure. Scarlet thank you for joining us. Column. Ead broookes coming up, what you need to know for tomorrows trading day. Day. Miss . , u. S. U stocks closing lower today. We havent said that in 2018. Julia coming out rally.
