BLM to begin 'wild burro gather' near Ridgecrest
Staff report
The Bureau of Land Management is making plans to gather 300 wild burros starting next Friday and the public is invited to watch, provided they follow certain restrictions.
The BLM will gather the burros which are part of the Centennial Herd Area located in San Bernardino and Inyo counties, roughly 10 miles north and east of Ridgecrest.
The gather is intended to address resource impacts and reduce the risk of burro-vehicle collisions.
The burros will be gathered from the approximately 1 million-acre herd area. A helicopter and wranglers will move the burros at a slow pace to the capture sites, ensuring groups stay together and reducing animal stress.
