“It went pretty good, jumping the PB in the long jump was quite surprising,” Nikau said.
Bagging the overall champion award was also surprising, given the number of other strong competitors, he said.

Nikau Peipi didn’t have much interest in athletics before his first Halberg Games in 2019.
His debut Halberg Games was in 2019, although he nearly didn’t make it after he missed his flight out of Nelson, but his employer Wadsco Motor World owner Jared Morris stepped in and found another option.
Nikau, who had never competed in para sports up until that point, managed to claim first place in the long jump, shot put and the 200-metre sprint in 2019, as well as second place in the 100m sprint.
