Ludhiana: Tension gripped the Old City on Saturday evening when BJP workers came face to face with Akalgarh market association over their tiranga rally in the area.
Several workers of BJP, including district party president Pushpinder Singhal, had gathered outside the zone-A office of Municipal Corporation, but the market people did not let them take out the march. As the situation became tense, cops installed barricades to avoid any scuffle or clash. BJP leaders had to cancel the rally finally.
When the BJP leaders and workers had gathered, the shopkeepers of Akalgarh market association closed their shops in protest and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The locals, many of whom were shopkeepers, also carried flags of Nishan Sahib and those related to the farmers’ agitation.
