Bits and Pieces: Readers share their memories of Christmas and Santa
Ann Gasbarre
As a young boy, every holiday season Doug Taylor of Bexley had his picture taken with Santa Claus at Freedlander's Department Store on West Liberty Street. The annual trip to the store in downtown Wooster was always a popular holiday activity for area youngsters.
"I remember," wrote the 1958 Wooster High School graduate, "the line to Santa's throne used to stretch all the way across the store’s overhead walkway."
"How cool was that?" he asked. "Oh, and of course sitting on Santa's lap on the store's second floor. I'm convinced there was no cooler Santa than the Freedlander Santa."
