The Birmingham Public Library board of directors named a new interim director on Wednesday.
Janine Langston, a 34-year veteran employee of the library who has been serving as deputy director since 2019, is the new interim director.
Floyd Council resigned Tuesday as executive director after a controversial three-year tenure. The board formally accepted his resignation on Wednesday.
COVID-19 closed the Birmingham Public Library system down in March and currently only the Central Library is open for in-person visits, Monday through Friday. The other 18 library branches are closed for in-person visits but offer limited curbside service.
