After a drier-than-usual winter, Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) Secretary Kathleen Theoharides declared a drought, pushing Billerica officials to declare water use restrictions.
Theoharides's office announced the drought was due to precipitation, streamflow, and groundwater below normal as the state enters the spring season.
According to Billerica officials, non-essential outdoor water use is now only allowed one day per week before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
Properties on the east side of Boston Road, (the right side of RT 3-A when traveling north) are allowed to water on Saturdays only before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
