Bill creating OFW department reaches Senate plenary

The bill creating the Department of Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos (DMWOF) is now up for plenary debates at the Senate.
This comes after Senator Joel Villanueva, chair of the Senate committee on labor, employment, and human resources development, sponsored Senate Bill (SB) No. 2234 during the session on Tuesday, May 25.
Senators initially questioned the need to consolidate all government offices related to the concerns of overseas Filipinos (OFs) and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
But the legislators finally found consensus on the proposed new agency during a closed-door meeting on Monday, May 24. A total of 19 senators signed the committee report.
