It has been a fairly recent tradition for a brand new president to sign a series of executive orders in the Oval Office after their swearing-in. This is done primarily for two reasons.
One, it shows a president and an administration hitting the ground running to fulfill promises made during the campaign. And two, it clearly demonstrates what will be the administration’s top legislative priorities for its first 100 days.
There is also a
“First Hundred Days” tradition that began during the first term of President Franklin Roosevelt. The nation was in the grip of the Great Depression and Roosevelt believed big government, “New Deal” socialism programs would help the economy recover faster.
