For various reasons, including COVID-19, no activities regarding the Lyrids are planned this year at Washburn University, the Northeast Kansas Amateur Astronomer's League observatory near Eskridge or Banner Creek Science Center and Observatory near Holton.
Mike Ford, observatory director at Banner Creek, said that while that facility will remain closed because of COVID until May, the public is welcome to come watch the meteor shower outdoors on its property at 22275 N Road.
"People are always welcome to come out to our dark skies," he said. "All you need to do is bring an easy chair and watch the sky!! You don't need a telescope."
