ROCKFORD — Michele Bennett's coworkers are coming to her rescue, and just in time.
The Rockford woman was facing fines from the city for a one-car attached garage on her property that had fallen into such disrepair that it had become a neighborhood eyesore.
Last week, a trio of Bennett's fellow employees from Belvidere North High School pulled a building permit to demolish the garage and build a new one.
Don Dexheimer, Joe Novak and Rick Booth — all of whom work as substitute teachers at Belvidere North — decided to spend their spring breaks helping Bennett with much-needed repairs to the home she inherited from her parents in 2013.
