JOHN DAY — Former Grant County Digital Board chair Dan Becker has placed his concerns regarding the digital board’s adherence to Oregon’s Public Meetings Law in the hands of the Oregon State Ethics Commission following an unsatisfactory response from John Day city attorney Jeremy Green to allegations that the Digital Board broke public meetings law following an improperly noticed meeting cancellation along with a subsequent meeting of the Grant County Digital Network Coalition held on the same day the Digital Board meeting was closed to the public as well as not being properly noticed.

Becker alleges meetings Law violations

Becker’s grievance to the County Court and City of John Day highlights a Tuesday, March 26 meeting of the Grant County Digital Board that was first scheduled and then cancelled on the morning of the 26th without explanation or notice and a meeting of the founders of the Grant County Digital Network Coalition on the same day as violations of Oregon Public Meetings Law.

Becker alleges that two members of the Grant County Digital Board in addition to representatives of the founding members of the Grant County Digital Network Coalition met during the time in which the previously canceled meeting was scheduled to be held. Becker said that at least two members of the public were turned away from that meeting, alleging that board members and Eric Bush and Scott Myers indicated that the meting was not open to the public.
