Beached whale helplessly dies on top of Florida sandbar as rescue teams couldn't reach the distressed animal in time

The 70,000-pound whale beached itself early Sunday, thrashing about on the shallow sandbar in an attempt to get free. Marine biologists said it was a deep-diving whale and it was likely unhealthy.
