The Israeli Army says its targeted 120 military sites belonging to hezbollah. Lebanese officials warn that more than A Million people face being forced from their homes. The body of the hezbollah leader, hassan nasrallah, is reported to have been recovered from the site of fridays israeli Air Strike in beirut. According to israel, more than 20 members of the iranian backed group were killed alongside him. And hezbollah has also confirmed that two other seniorfigures have been killed in airstrikes. We will start this hour with more on those strikes in yemen. Here is our Correspondentjon Donnison. Israels military Reach And Power is long and strong. This is not lebanon or gaza, but almost 2000 kilometres away in yemen. The target, one of the countrys biggest ports and two Power Stations controlled by iranians backed who thieves. Houthis. The Operation Backed by israels defence minister. Translation we by israels defence minister. Translation translation we have no interest in translation we have no interest in expanding translation we have no interest in expanding the I Translation we have no i interest in expanding the war. We have no interest in expanding the fronts. But if someone attacks israel, as the houthis have recently done with missiles, and throughout the war with Cruise Missiles and drones, anyone that carries out such an attack, we will settle the account with them, and we know how to do it. Israel is not holding back. Its Air Force released footage as they set off for the raid. And earlier today, it says it shut down another drone launched from yemen. For the past year, the Yemeni Houthis have been trying to influence the conflict in the Middle East. This is their commandos seizing a british owned ship in the red sea last november. They have long range missiles, are supported by iran, and are fiercely opposed to israel. Speaking yesterday, the houthis Military Spokesperson said they would not stop until israel ended its aggression against gaza and lebanon. Todays strikes in yemen highlights another dangerous front in a war that threatens to engulf the region. I was Security Correspondent Frank Gardner explained the significance of the strikes in yemen. So, the houthis are a rebel group, backed by iran. They took over most of the populated parts of yemen back in 2014, 2015, and they inherited an arsenal of long range missiles, and with iranian help, they have built that up and joined in the fight alongside hamas against israel, and they have been firing periodically missiles as well as at shipping that they accuse of being part of his real S Network of commerce, they have been Firing Missiles directly at israel, and israel has clearly decided to lash out at all the members of what it calls, or what iran calls the axis of resistance, so hezbollah in lebanon, the popular Mobilisation Front in iraq, other one in syria, and the houthis in yemen. So what they have done here is use a number of warplanes to target sites that they believe the houthis are using to supply their entire structure, so oil, power, weapons coming through the port at hodeidah. This is the port at hodeidah. This is the first time they have done it in a big raid. The second time. The first was injuly the 20. What does it mean to have the simultaneous strikes here and in yemen . I think israel is ignoring all the calls for a ceasefire or a lowering of the temperature, saying they have had enough, because they are attacked from all sides, they are saying, we are going to take on all enemies. And if you look at it over the last few months, they have indeed lashed out in all directions, so even though they didnt claim Response Ability for it, it is widely assumed it was israels mossad overseas Intelligence Agency that organised the assassination of the hamas political Wing Leader Ismail Haniyeh in the heart of the iranians capital. They have yet to respond to that. They are taking apart hezbollah s command structure. 0ne are taking apart hezbollah s command structure. One by one, they are taking it down because they are taking it down because they say they are fed up with hezbollah loving missiles across the northern border of making it impossible for nearly 70,000 residents to return to their homes and businesses, so they want to push hezbollah away from that border. Ideally, they would probably like to eliminate them altogether, but at any rate, they want to eliminate the threat of those missiles. And hezbollah up until now, everyone has said that they are the most powerful non state Military Force in the world, with this huge arsenal of weapons, and yet, they are being dismantled. Their leadership, their weapons supplies, their entire structure seems to be penetrated by israeli intelligence. Their informants seem to be telling them exactly where these leaders are, and they are getting eliminated. Thank you to frank for that. Israel are continuing to launch strikes inside lebanon. 0ur Senior International Correspondent 0rla Guerin has been to the Bekaa Valley and sent this report. You may find some parts distressing. Israel keeps hitting hard. For now, it looks unstoppable. This is the Bekaa Valley this afternoon. There were at least 30 Air Strikes in an hour. Danger in every direction. And new dad. 0ur neighbours, the jamilfamily, neighbours, the jamil family, are all gone, neighbours, the jamilfamily, are all gone, he says. As more Air Strikes rained down, Noor Mousawi lies in intensive care. She is six years old and was injured on her own doorstep on monday. Herfamily say injured on her own doorstep on monday. Her family say she is intelligent and chatty. And loves meeting new people. But here, shortly before the attack, she was afraid and praying. Her Mother Reema now prays by her bedside. And suddenly, as we filmed, the planes were back. Within the last few seconds, weve had a strike. We heard the plane in the air, then we felt the impact. The windows here shook. They rattled. And its an indication of how nowhere here is safe, and even patients in Hospitals Cant feel completely safe. Minutes later, new wounded. An ambulance has just arrived now bringing casualties from the latest Air Strike. They are being treated in the emergency department. There is a lot of anger and tension. People are stressed, wondering when this is going to stop. Backin back in intensive care, noor s father abdullah wants the world to see his child. Was she fighting . He asks. She was playing at home. Does she have weapons . Half of her brain is gone. Noorwas weapons . Half of her brain is gone. Noor was born after her parents had ten years of ivf. Her father says he is parents had ten years of ivf. Herfather says he is not an hezbollah, but now wishes he was. Not in hezbollah. To austria now, where the far right Freedom Party is retaining its lead as votes in the General Election are counted. Projections suggest the party has secured 29. 1 of the vote, putting it on course for the first Election Win for the far right in austria since World War two. Theyre expected to beat both the ruling conservatives, the austrian peoples party, which is predicted to receive 26. 2 of the vote, and the social democrats, predicted to gain 20. 4 . The Freedom Party Leader Herbert Kickl says his party is ready to lead, and has told austrian television that other political factions should reconsider their refusal to form a coalition with him. Heres our Correspondent Bethany Bell in vienna. Well, this is a night of celebration for the Freedom Party. Theyve been describing this as a historic result, the fact that they have been able to come first in a parliamentary election. Mr kickl, the fiery leader of the party, has tapped into voter concerns about migration, about rising prices, about the economy. He has promised to form what he calls a fortress austria, but the whole problem, though, will come when it comes to trying to form a government, because Mr Kickl is very divisive and other parties dislike him very much, and they have said that they wont form a Coalition Government that is led by Mr Kickl, so all of the negotiations are likely to be long and quite tortuous. So we dont know what will happen in terms of the Shape Or Size or Make Up of any government, butjust securing the largest party, what impact do you think that has . Well, traditionally, the largest party is given the mandate to try and form a Coalition Government. We wait to see. That is the task of Austrias President , alexander Van Der Bellen. Hes expressed reservations about the Freedom Party, not least because of their stance on the war in ukraine. The Freedom Party is against Eu Sanctions on moscow, and mr Van Der Bellen is concerned about that. There is a concern as well about whether other parties will form an alliance with them. Bethany, thanks very much for that. We will get the latest from the Middle East now. The uns World Food Programme has launched an Emergency Operation to provide meals for A Million people affected by the fighting in lebanon. Thousands have been forced to leave their homes, many are very short notice without bringing anything with them. Our middle East Correspondent is in beirut and sent this. This is one of the schools that was accommodating people who fled from southern lebanon, and we were reporting from here. It was already packed with almost 1200, according to people that are managing this place, and now, today, they told us that they have almost 2000 or more just sleeping in the courtyard. These are people that fled from dahieh, and they told us they could not find any accommodation, they couldnt find any rooms here. Some families here told us that they manage to go and stay with their relatives, who fled from southern Lebanon Or North east lebanon, because the attacks continue on those locations too, but attacks now continue on dahieh, and these people tell us that they dont have any place to go back, and they dont think that they can go back anytime soon. The situation is dire here, and the manager told me that they no idea how long they can really help and accommodate this many people if there wont be enough help. A lot of volunteers are coming, bringing the staff families and people from other parts of lebanon, they are bringing food and close, but the manager was telling us it is not enough for all the people, that they are still coming, they are still arriving, not only from dahieh, but also from other parts of lebanon that are being targeted. And now, here, we have israeli drones, four hours and hours circulating here, and people tell me that they dont feel safe any more anywhere. Lets go live tojerusalem. Our Correspondentjon Donnison is there. Bring us the latest, if you count on what we know about these strikes from israel and yemen. Right, so israel says it targeted one of the main ports in yemen, and it hit Power Stations there. Now, the images we saw from there, we saw massive explosions, the Port Area engulfed in fire. That is some 1800 kilometres from israel, so the reach of Israels Military is both long and strong, and israel says it is responding to drone and Missile Attacks launched from yemen, from Houthi Groups In Yemen, from Houthi Groups In Yemen who are backed by iran, fiercely opposed to israels actions in gaza and in lebanon, but israel says it will attack anyone who attacks it. Band but israel says it will attack anyone who attacks it. And jon, Ust Anyone who attacks it. And jon, just reflect anyone who attacks it. And jon, just reflect if anyone who attacks it. And jon, just reflect if you anyone who attacks it. And jon, just reflect if you can, anyone who attacks it. And jon, just reflect if you can, given just reflect if you can, given what we know about the strikes in yemen, given the continued strikes in lebanon, what weve seen and how the calculations are being made there from Israels Point of view. Well, look, you know, ever since the war erupted in gaza almost a year ago, and that conflict seems to have almost been forgotten, really, such is the extent of what else is going on over the last few weeks, the fear has been for the past year that the conflict in gaza could escalate to a much wider regional conflict, and that fear has not eased at all today. In lebanon, you get the feeling that Prime Minister netanyahu, the israeli leader, really feels that israel has a boot on the throat of hezbollah at the moment and he is going to keep pushing. The speculation is that a Ground Offensive will soon be coming, because you cannot defeat Hezbollah Militarilyjust by hezbollah militarily just by Air Strikes. Hezbollah militarilyjust by airstrikes. It Hezbollah Militarilyjust by Air Strikes. It would require, most analysts think, some kind of ground invasion. That will come at a cost. It will cost israeli lives, and you remember backin israeli lives, and you remember back in 2006 when there was the last full Scale War between hezbollah and israel, israel ended up being pushed back and lost quite a lot of soldiers. That is one thing to look for this week. The other thing is, what is iran going to do . Iran has sworn vengeance for the killing of hezbollahs hassan nasrallah. Iran, of course, funds, back s, founded hezbollah, so we are waiting really to see what their response will be, because they have said they will seek vengeance for that assassination. Thank you, jon. Lets speak to firas maksad, who is a Senior Fellow at the Middle East institute. Firas is an expert on the politics of lebanon and syria, the geopolitics of the arab gulf, and the broader dynamics of the Middle East region. Thank you very much for coming on the programme. Can we reflect on the last 48 hours . How much do you think it has changed the calculation in the region . Lewis, i think the stated objective of the israeli campaign in lebanon understates what is really happening here. It is notjust to return some 60,000 israelis who have been displaced from their homes in the north. This is a campaign to reshape the Balance Of Power in lebanon and in the area, and israel has landed some very significant blows in what is the first round, a 12 Round Match between it and iran here. So this is going to be a prolonged campaign. It might very well include a Ground Component in orderfor very well include a Ground Component in order for israel to get to some of that infrastructure along the border. Clearly, after October The 7th, a lot of concerns about underground tunnels, that hezbollah might have built in that area, and of course, The Big Question is then how we can expect iran and the iranian access to respond to the israeli action. 50 access to respond to the israeli action. Access to respond to the israeli action. ,. , israeli action. So on the Point Ou israeli action. So on the point you made israeli action. So on the point you made there israeli action. So on the point you made there about israeli action. So on the point you made there about a israeli action. So on the Point L you made there about a ground incursion, it is your sense there will be one . I incursion, it is your sense there will be one . I really dont think there will be one . I really dont think it there will be one . I really dont think it will there will be one . I really dont think it will be there will be one . I really l dont think it will be enough for israel, having come that far, to simply degrade hezbollah using Air Strikes and special operations. At some point, maybe, some of us thought that might be the case. For israeli Prime Minister netanyahu, whose image and reputation as Mr Security was very much undermined as a result of the October The 7th attack, this is his chance. He senses that the wind is blowing in his sales after a Decapitation Strike against hezbollahs leadership. Not just hassan nasrallah, but also the entire military command. And then this kind of Mass Displacement right now, both from the north in israel, which means minimal civilian casualties should hezbollah retaliate, but also from the areas of South Lebanon and dahieh. So i think the ground is very much set for a limited ground invasion. 0k, ground invasion. Ok, you have given your assessment of the calculations from the israeli perspective. Can you do the same now from the iranian perspective . I am happy to. History does not repeat, it rhymes. In 1982, israels Prime Minister at the time, ariel sarong, went all the way to beirut in order to redress the Balance Of Power in israels favour. Ariel sharon. They remember the kind of campaign that iran and syria mounted, and they had pushed israel all the way back to that southern border stop this is to say iran tends to enjoy strategic patience, well israel can do deliver a fast and decisive blow early in the campaign. I expect iran will take its time, regroup, and have an aversion to a direct war with israel, and it will use the various sponsors in the region to perhaps by hezbollah time in lebanon and try to regroup. In the calculation from the Point Of View of iran, what influence will be strikes, for example, on yemen, that weve seenin example, on yemen, that weve seen in the last couple of hours make . What influence will the strikes may . Hours make . What influence will the strikes may . Will the strikes may . Clearly, the significance will the strikes may . Clearly, the significance of will the strikes may . Clearly, the significance of that will the strikes may . Clearly, the significance of that is the significance of that is that israeli Prime Minister never knew he was trying to undermine irans so called Ring Of Fire around israel. Iran understands that it is not in a position to take on israel directly from a military perspective, even from a Security And Intelligence perspective, the israelis have the upper hand. Im Afraid Tojump in there, but we are right at The End of the programme. Thank you very much as always for coming on the programme. This is bbc news. This hello there.
