We all had our faith in Keir Starmer, in the Labour Government, and i feel voters and activists and mps Are Being completely laughed at and completely taken for granted. Ms duffield has Been critical Before of both Sir Keir and Jeremy Corbyn as labour leader. Her complaint was they did not publicly support her campaigning against Anti Semitism and for womens rights left her with threats some from within the Labour Ranks. It is damaging, coming at a time that conservatives come together for a conference. The criticism directed at the Prime Minister Being seized on. She made her point very clear, hasnt she . Did this come completely Out Of The Blue . It is completely Out Of The Blue . It is simultaneously completely Out Of The Blue . It 3 simultaneously shocking and completely Out Of The Blue . It 2 simultaneously shocking and not shocking at all. Rosie duffield has visibly Been uncomfortable in the Labour Party for some time, especially as you were hearing there on the issue of womens rights of Are actually in recent years the Labour Partys position has moved much closer to her own, and you got a sense of the divisions within the Labour Party on that issue when one of herformer Labour Party on that issue when one of her former Colleagues Nadia Whittome a Labour Mp wrote on X Yesterday that she should never have Been allowed the privilege of resigning, labourshould have resigning, labour should have withdrawn resigning, labourshould have withdrawn the whip awhile ago so when you factor in all of the other issues she mentioned in her Resignation Letter, this makes a lot of sense. On the other hand, its extraordinarily unusual for someone to quit a party less than three months after a general election. It will have Quit Parties Before, people have even defect directly to other Political Parties, but i cannot think of an example where someone has done it so soon after standing under the Partys Banner at the general election and winning and i think the political risk here for Keir Starmer is his general Election Victory less than three months ago was notjust about Beating the conservatives, it was also a sense that people might have to focus on politics less, he would stop the chaos. It doesnt seem to Be quite working out that way yet, does it. No, thank you, henry. Likely to Be more reaction to that through the day. I dont think we have quite the same day had today, do we . Not quite, it starts out all right but things will go downhill especially in the south and the west. That morning to you. A hint of what is to come for some today, and indeed the next couple of days. Heavy rain sweeping across england, wales and Northern Ireland, strong winds as well. Fairly cool. Things gradually turning dry and bright again by the time we had mid week. That is the week and a nutshell. At the moment we have temperatures around one or two degrees, under this ridge of high pressure. A fair bit of high cloud, that is in advance of the low Pressure System moving in which is set to bring strong winds as we go through the morning, across Eastern Parts of Northern Ireland, wales and the southwest. 65 miles an hour possible in gusts. A few brighter breaks, early rain in Orkney And Shetland fizzling out. Not a bad day in scotland. Some spells of Hazy Sunshine. Elsewhere the card will Be picking up even after a bright start. Outbreaks of rain in Northern Ireland, wales and scotland. Strong winds here, these Are the average winds here, these Are the average wind speeds, of course it is much higher in the southwest but all the possible Seabreeze Pickup through the day. After a rather chilly start it is not going to feel particularly nice after the Cloud And Rain rolls in. As we go through the evening, if youre on the move, we have occasional rain in Northern Ireland, heavier burst developing through wales and morpeth early to the southwest. That Rain Edging in more widely through the first half of the night. The more persistent rain, pushing across those Areas which were hit by flooding through the week. A few hours of steady rain Before that gradually works north. Milder conditions to the south, still a Bit Cooler further north with temperatures down into mid single figures in one or two spots. Low pressure sitting around for monday and tuesday, On Monday the more persistent rain is wrapped around the Weather Frontier, through East Anglia, into parts of northern midlands, Northern England and wales, could Become heavy and persistent, particularly through parts of lincolnshire and yorkshire. Here we saw lots of rain earlier in the week. Wetter weather developing in scotland and Northern Ireland as well, perhaps something drier, brighter and warmer the southern and coastal counties through the second half of the day. That low Pressure System only slowly meandering away as we go through tuesday and then into wednesday, bringing some strong and radical winds to eastern coasts. Tuesday, The Rain is still there across eastern and western parts of ingham, could come back in and drift towards the southeast. Further north and west, a brighter day on tuesday, Feeling Cool in the breeze, and that Cool Breeze will ease as we go to wednesday and into the weekend, at least they will Be a bit more sunshine around, habitually at night with mist and fog, though, as we go to wednesday, thursday and friday. Do you want to hold it . Yuck its earned the nickname the hawaii of europe and its one of the few places that actually thrived during Covid Travel restrictions. We had the green corridor. We had all the facilities, everything ready. They arrive here and say, oh, my god. Where am i . To portugal im here to meet the people that call this place home. To experience the wonder of its landscapes. Mmm thats nice . And see how tourism is now pushing locals to walk that delicate line Between preserving natural Beauty and boosting economic growth. Now, around The World, there Are many airports named after significant historical figures jfk in new york, for example, or Indira Gandhi Airport in new delhi. Well, here in madeira, theyve got an airport named after an iconic hero, too except this one is very much alive and kicking. For those who dont know who he is, Cristiano Ronaldo is a very good footballer and this is his home city, funchal, which is the islands capital. And im getting the strong impression they really like him here. And itjust so happens that ronaldo is playing tonight for portugal in a major tournament. And im going to meet one of his biggest fans, Bel'>Ana IsaBel, whos here somewhere. Im going to find her. Well have to wind our way through this crowd. Hey Ana Rajan nice to meet you. Oh, lovely to meet you finally wow this is a good place well, yes, we have the Best spot. Now, we support portugal. Come on. Lets do it. Well, listen. 0k. Hey, drinks to portugal. To cristiano. To madeira. Did you know that the british introduced football to portugal . And do you know where they introduced football to portugal . Madeira. Right here excited cries do you think ronaldo helped to increase tourism to madeira, awAreness of madeira . Absolutely. Yeah, he put madeira on the map. Literally. Its penalties, and ronaldo is about to take the first one for portugal. Exactly. He has to score. Forza, ronaldo. Cheering and applause lets just leave the game at that on a high note. This Atlantic Isle has traditionally attracted an older crowd but in recent years, thats Been changing and tourism is very much on the up. And so, im out bright and early to catch up with Bel'>Ana IsaBel again to see more of funchal. Hey, isaBel. Oh, rajan. How Are you . How Are you after Last Night . Er. Are you still alive . Recovering, recovering. Recovering. But its nice to see you. Really . Tell me about. You said to me, you promised me you would show me your funchal. I promised you and here we Are. And here we Are. This is a Beautiful street. I mean, i love these painted doors and everything. Yes. This is santa maria street. This is one of the most Beautiful parts of the city, where funchal was born, and also one of my favourite parts. This was actually a project that happened years ago. They invited local artists to bring a bit more life into the street. Right now, we dont find many people but at night, you dont find a place to sit. Its really, really busy. This is a place that we shAre with visitors. Theres a strong smell in here, isaBel, isnt there . Yes fishy this is our local fish, the famous espada. Espada . Black scabbardfish. Oh, wow this was discovered early days, in m19, and they were terrified Because they used to call it the monster fish. Ok, look. Ugh aha ugh look at this. Do you want to hold it . Yuck no, here, here. It looks really ugly but it is one of the most delicious fish you can have on the island. Yeah . And i really hope you can youll Be able to try this. This was my firstjob. I was here for 11 years. 11 years, you worked here . Yes. Did you drink any of the wines . Oh, god, yes it was a Beautiful experience. Can i have some of this Beautiful experience . Yes, you will. Absolutely. Lets do it. Wow. Look at this Hang On this is. Five glasses of wine for two people. Yes, well, youre getting the whole set have you seen Tourism Change in madeira over the time that youve Been working here . Well, a lot. I worked also in the Beginning as a tour guide. We have the elderly range of clients coming into five stars but we have also an interest of younger generations coming to madeira. And covid was the perfect situation. We had the green corridor. We had all the facilities, everything ready. There were the families with children. There were the nomads. There were young people that were trying just to go somewhere. And there was one place showing up madeira. They arrive here and say, oh, my god. Where am i . They were, like, amazed. It was like a revelation for them . It was a revelation. And what happened is they start coming back. In fact, the numBer of tourists visiting and staying on the island was on the decline in the years leading up to covid. Now, its up 30 from pre pandemic levels, with no signs of slowing. Well, i have a very big surprise for you now. Were going on a very nice adventure. So, were getting in one of these . Yeah, were getting on this. These guys Are carreiros. Carreiros . Carreiros. They have these amazing boots. These Are very thick leather and they have the rubBer sole, which is the brakes. They Become the brakes . Yeah. 0h, 0k. Hello. How Are you . Very good. Here we go whoa fantastic. Yes this is amazing. I mean, whats the fastest you can go on this . You can go up to 30km H. 30km H . wow this exists for more than 100 years. This starts middle of the 19th century, 1850. People that lived here, the british and locals, they used this as a way to go in town for their business. Amazing what a way to get in town yeah. Is this your Family Business . Did your father do this . Yes, yes. Really . My grandfather. Your grandfather . Yeah. Wow so, they keep it in the family . Its a good exercise every day. Its brilliant Exercise 0h wow. This is the finish line. Fantastic in 2023, madeira took in 656 Million euros in Tourism Revenuejust from overnight stays. Its a massive Income Stream for the islanders, but with that comes other issues. Now, madeira is an island, and you cant come here without checking out the fantastic coastline and the Beautiful atlantic ocean. And luckily, im going to meet somebody, marcio suArez, whos going to take me out for a ride. Marcio comes from a long line of fishermen and, for a time, he was one, too. But in recent years, with more people coming to the island, its Become far more lucrative to take tourists out rather than bring fish in. Look, nice. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Look. Wow crabs. Tell me about some of the things that you have found in the water. So weve just arrived by boat to this faja. Now, a faja is the result of cascading volcanic Rock Or Lava so weve just arrived by boat to this faja. Now, a faja is the result of cascading volcanic Rock Or Lava flow which creates a plateau which is really fertile. And that means you get these groves of amazing subtropical fruit and different species of vegetables, which is fantastic. Early settlers harvested these strips of land, though back then, the only way in or out was by boat. Here at faja dos padres, a lift was eventually built, then a Cable Car, increasing the numBer of customers to sustain a thriving Restaurant Business where the owners serve the produce from the farm. And itjust so happens one of the specialities is the Black Scabbardfish The One from the market. Excuse me, sir. Ah, hi. Scabbardfish with the lime and Mango Sauce. 0h. Thank you so much. Born apetite. Looks great, thank you. So, it looks nothing like what i saw in the market, which is quite nice. Try a bit of the Mango Sauce. Oh, thats really nice. Tender, white, nice fish. Mmm and the Mango Sauce. Is exquisite. Ha just look at this trees of mangoes, which is where my Mango Sauce came from well, i could spend all day here but i have a Cable Car to catch. This island is guardian to the largest Area'>Surviving Area of Laurisilva Forest in The World. Unesco declAred this 20 Million year old woodland a world heritage site, and the locals in madeira Are fiercely protective of it. You wont find many buildings. But what you will see, and hear, Are these. Levadas. Theyre Irrigation Channels that span 3,000km across the Island And Theyve Become somewhat of an unintended tourist attraction. There Are a numBer of different apps that you can use to navigate your way down these levada Walking Paths. And right now, im going to meet miguel gouveia, whose family has spent generations actually building these levadas. But ive got to find him. Its very dark. And ill Be honest, i dont completely trust my own Map Reading skills. Look, light and its a gorgeous day, actually. Here we go. Freedom miguel, right . Yeah. Welcome. Im so relieved to see you. Its so dark in there yeah, but its nice weather here. I can tell. Wow our ancestors had to build levadas to take water from the north to the south for irrigation purposes. How new Are these ones . This one right here was part of a plan done back in the 505 with the purpose of producing electricity. Ah. And you said yourfamily were involved in that . I am fourth generation. So, levadas is like the blood in our veins. Wow. I can imagine, growing up here as a young child, it must have Been so exciting to wander around and discover stuff. This used to Be like my back yard. Theres a house up there. We used to play football up there and the ball went coming down, all through the laurisilva. Well, that must have made you a Better footballer, Because you didnt want to keep coming down here to pick it up. No. I started to play other sports i was really fortunate to have this growing up. So, now people can experience a little bit of what. And we can see them here, walking right through. Theres a lot of people coming here. Yeah. Whoa its Been quite a steep journey so far. Yeah. Wheres the house, then, that you were staying in . The House Isjust 100m up there. Up there . Yeah. Much like in the seas, theres Been a noticeable increase in rubbish, illegal camps in the Protected Forest and a general disrespect for the environment. Its supposed to Be drinking water. Miguel, Tell Me, what Are some of the worst things that youve seen left Behind in these levadas . That weve seen with this increase in tourism . Weve seen bottles, plastic bottles, a lot of wraps and even glass bottles. Glasses and bottles. So, luckily, there Are groups taking action and trying to keep madeira clean. One of those is a group called clean madeira. They have a very intense social media presence, and this is making a big difference, Because people Are starting to talk more about the need to keep madeira clean. So, raj, we Are in santana. Actually, this is the highest city in madeira. And i wanted to show you this house, typical house. Its an icon in madeira. So, raj, we Are in santana. Actually, this is the highest city in madeira. And i wanted to show you this house, typical house. Its an icon in madeira. Whoa its called house of santana. Beautiful. The thatched roof and everything. Its amazing. Knock at door. Miguel s friend, jose branco, comes from a long line of bakers. He even grows and grinds his own flour. This is actually known as santana bread. The Sweet Potato is added for extra nutrition. Mmm thats nice. Thats really nice. Mmm. Lovely texture and lovely taste. Really good. Thank you. Mmm. Since weve seen levadas, i would like to show you an alternative. In portuguese, this is called a Camino Real in english, a royal road. The king of portugal commissioned six routes in the 19th century, connecting different parts of the island. They were built, eminently, to Be a safe route to transport goods, goods produced here and all around madeira. Before that, they had to come In And Out by boat. With the advent of actual roads for cars, these Walking Paths Became largely redundant, but miguel has Been on a mission to revive them. I first met the Royal Paths back in 2015. I wanted to escape the City Turmoil and all the work problems. And then we did a second journey around madeira in the winter and then people started noticing that we were doing this and this is a very nice way to know madeira. Miguel started an association, along with some others, and now more than 100 people join their annual walk around the island along Camino Real 23. Our mission was to preserve Camino Real, to value it and to get people to know it. And i think also the fact that i was a mayor in funchal also helped that. You were the mayor of funchal . Yes, i was the mayor of funchal. Right, ok. Yeah, the mayors also walk. Laughter. Why do you think this is a good alternative to walking the levadas . So, this Camino Real was built for mobility, for transporting also goods. So, this is its purpose. The levadas werent for that, were they . No, levadas were made for irrigation and for drinking Water And Power Supply And Energy production. And i suppose, as weve seen, it means that the crowds Are dispersed more. Yeah, sure. The levadas Are now under a lot of stress, tourist stress. And this is a good alternative for people to know madeira in an immersed way. Plus, i guess, its really good for the local economy, too . Yeah, yeah, sure. Because people walking the Camino Real will buy what they need, wherever along the camino. So, they will help secure jobs, leave added value everywhere. So, its a win win. And. What s not to like when you have these amazing views Behind you . Yeah, sure. If you like the views, i have something in store for you. Really . So, rajan, congratulations, you finished the camino. Its time to celebrate with a toast. Poncha. 0k. I Bet its very healthy. Very healthy products from madeira, with sugar cane, Honey And Orange juice. Beautiful. Saude. Ooh. Ooh Are you sure theres only Honey And Sugar in this . What else is in here . Ah, i said theres sugar cane. Ah. But in the form of rum. Laughter. And i can taste that. Saude now, ive Been told i cant leave this island Before experiencing one of its famous sunrises. That is incredible. And it pretty well sums up most of my time in madeira from the craziness of watching an international match with passionate portuguese Football Fans like isaBel to then Being up in the mountains in the Peace And Serenity of the royal path with miguel. And one thing that i really noticed while the rest of The World stood still during covid, here, it was a trigger for more tourism, and its continued ever since, which leaves this island to make a choice, cos its at a cusp. Does it let things carry on as they Are . Or does it actively promote more unusual experiences which Are just waiting to Be discovered on this island of madeira . Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with Rachel Burden and Ben boulos. Our Headlines Today fears of a wider war in the Middle East after Israel Kills hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, one of the most influential figures in the region. Ill have all the details here on breakfast. Good morning. Its Sunday 29th septemBer. Thank you for Being with us this morning. Fears of a wider war in the Middle East Are growing as iran says the death of the leader of hezbollah Will Not Go Unavenged. The country has declAred five days of mourning for Hassan Nasrallah after he was killed by an israeli Air Strike on the lebanese capital Beirut. Us president Joe Biden says his death is a Measure Ofjustice for his many victims but called again for a ceasefire. Our reporter simonjones has more. Distant explosions the israeli bombardment of lebanon continues by night. Explosions. And by day, but the Big Question is what will israel, hezbollah and the militant groups back in iran do next . The israeli Prime Minister descriBed the killing of Hezbollahs Leader On Friday as a historic turning point, but said his work is not done. Translation the state of israel eliminated the Master Murderer i Hassan Nasrallah. We settled accounts with The One responsible for the murder of countless israelis and many citizens of other countries. Nasrallah was not another terrorist, he was the terrorist. Hassan nasrallah was the Beating-heart'>Beating Heart of hezbollah, Playing A Key role in turning it into a political and military force. It descriBed him as a martyr and vowed to continue its fight against israel. Iran has declAred five days of public mourning, and said the death Will Not Go Unavenged. Its calling for a meeting of the un security council. The cabinet in lebanon met to condemn israel. Translation the government is doing i everything in its power to confront i this destructive, hateful war that israel is waging against us, and we went to the United Nations looking for a solution and we met with The World leaders but the enemy went with the intention of treachery and planning more massacres. Officials in lebanon say almost 800 people have Been killed by israeli strikes since monday. The us has descriBed Nasrallahs Death as a Measure Ofjustice for his many victims, but its calling again for diplomacy. Reporter Mr President , is a Ground Incursion i into lebanon inevitable . I am for a ceasefire. Sirens wail sirens as a rocket is fired into northern israel. On the ground, israeli troops have Been training near the border with lebanon. The un says its deeply concerned at the escalation in the conflict as fears of a wider war grow. Simon jones, Bbc News. In a moment, we can speak to our middle East Correspondent Hugo bachega, who is in Beirut. First, lets speak to Jon Donnison injerusalem. Jon, as we were hearing, Benjamin-netanyahu'>Benjamin Netanyahu has descriBed the death of Hassan Nasrallah as a historic turning point. Is there any sign that israel is going to pause its Military Campaign . No, there isnt. Prime minister Benjamin-netanyahu'>Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue in the statement that he made Last Night and there have Been fresh Air Strikes within lebanon overnight and i think the ball is very much in the court now of hezbollah and perhaps, more importantly, iran. Hezbollah has had much of its leadership decimated but it still has a huge Military Arsenal and much more sophisticated long Range Guided Missiles that could inflict damage all over israel, so i think there is all over israel, so i think there is a question of whether hezbollah is going to use those, is capable of using them at the moment with such a decimated leadership, and then of course what will iran do . They have vowed to seek vengeance for the death of Hassan Nasrallah but will it want to Be directly involved in a confrontation with israel, something it has kind of resisted doing over the past year . Iran gets involved, things Are obviously going to get much more complicated here. Israel has made the calculation so far, i think, that iran does not want a direct confrontation with israel but i think the killing of Hassan Nasrallah Will Push that theory very much to the test. Nasrallah Will Push that theory very much to the test. Thank you so much, Jon Donnison Israels Bombardment of the lebanese capital has Been ongoing. You can see the Areas theyve hit over the last week. Officials in lebanon say around 800 people have Been killed since monday. And it was one of those attacks, highlighted here, in which Hassan Nasrallah was killed. Our middle East Correspondent Hugo bachega is in Beirut this morning. Hugo, weve heard talk of retaliation from the leader of iran. Are there any other signs that there may Be a wider war in the region . Morning. Yesterday, the houthis in yemen fired another missile at israel and this was intercepted by the israeli military but this has Been the fear here for almost a year that more of these iranian backed groups across the region, but only hezbollah in lebanon but the houthis in yemen, militias in Iraq And Syria could join the fight against israel. There have not Been signed yet of a more co ordinated campaign against israel but those fears remain and again there Are no signs the israeli military. His campaign against hezbollah after the killing of Hassan Nasrallah. Those is rArely Air Strikes continued overnight with the israeli military saying dozens of locations used by hezbollah were hit, including Rocket Launchers and weapons, storage facilities, an industrial Area here in Beirut near the airport was also hit Last Night although authorities say the airport has continued to operate normally. There is obviously the impact on the population, hundreds of people killed, Tens Of Thousands displaced Because of the conflict and yesterday, the lebanese Prime Minister gave a warning. He said his country was facing a very dangerous situation. For country was facing a very dangerous situation. , ,. , , situation. For the moment, thank you so much, situation. For the moment, thank you so much. Hugo situation. For the moment, thank you so much. Hugo big situation. For the moment, thank you so much, hugo. Big developments i so much, hugo. Big developments internationally and significant developments back home politically as well. The start of the conservative Party Conference Today but in fact there is news from the Labour Party. Mp Rosie Duffield has resigned from the Labour Party Because of what she called sir Keir Starmer s cruel policies and hypocrisy over his acceptance of gifts. Our political correspondent Damian Grammaticas reports. Rosie duffield was elected to parliament in 2017 the first woman and the first Labour Mp to represent canterbury at westminster. Her Resignation Letter is deeply, personally critical of sir Keir Starmer. She attacks him over his leadership, saying he has over his policies, like the cut to Winter Fuel Support and his acceptance of gifts, which she calls she spoke on sunday with Berg'>Laura KuenssBerg on the bbc. We all had our faith in Keir Starmer, in a Labour Government, and ifeel that voters and activists and mp5 Are Being completely laughed at and completely taken for granted. Ms duffield has Been critical Before of both Sir Keir and Jeremy Corbyn as labour leader. Her complaint was they did not publicly support her when her campaigning for womens rights or against Anti Semitism left her Facing Abuse and threats some from within Labour Ranks. Cheering and applause but what is damaging now, coming as the conservatives gather for their party conference, is that her criticisms Are so personally and publicly directed at the Prime Minister and Are already Being seized on. Shes made her point very clear, hasnt she . Which is that the Labour Party and Keir Starmer s government is not about service, its not about delivering for the british people, its about self service. Downing street had Been hoping to move Beyond the focus on gifts and tensions within Labour Ranks but this very public resignation has brought those back into the spotlight. Damian grammaticas, Bbc News. You can hear the whole interview with Rosie Duffield on sunday with Berg'>Laura KuenssBerg, here on Bbc One at 9am. Rosie duffield has visibly Been intention with the Labour Party for some time now, principally on that issue as you Are hearing of womens rights and transgender rights in tension. You got a measure of how divided the Labour Party has Been on this when one of herformer Labour Party has Been on this when one of her former Colleagues Nadia Whittome, Labour Mp, responded to her Resignation Yesterday by saying she should have Been stripped of her Labour Party memBership. She shouldnt have had the opportunity to resign. On the other hand, this is very surprising as i cannot think of an an mp, quitting a party either to Be an independent, as Rosie Duffield now is, or tojoin another party so soon after a general election than three months than she won the general election in canterbury under a labour banner. I expect there will Be some calls as a result of that for her to stand down and fired her seat in a By Election. Fight. I dont think she will do that so i think it would mean she will Be there as an independent for upward of four years, setting out her own views now as an independent mp. , , ~ her own views now as an independent mp. ,. , ~ ,. , the Conservative Partys annual conference starts today in birmingham. Legal experts have told the bbc that the state of qatar either missed or dismissed allegations surrounding Mohamed Al fayed when it purchased harrods in 2010. Various claims, including a Police Investigation into the alleged assault of a 15 year old girl, were in the Public Domain at the time, raising questions about the Due Diligence process. Heres our business correspondent, marc ashdown. When the Qatar Investment Authority bought harrods for £1. 5 billion, it shouldve Been the jewel in its crown. But the 200 year old Department Store is now having to deal with allegations concerning the Behaviour of its former owner, Mohamed Al fayed. Legal experts have told the bbc there Are questions about how the oia carried out its Due Diligence, given that a numBer of allegations were already in the Public Domain including an investigation into the alleged assault of a 15 year old girl in a harrods boardroom. Beth hale, a partner at cm murray, said it would Be sensible to ask detailed questions about the numBer of claims and numBer of complaints, informal or formal, even if not upheld. Catriona watt, partner at fox partners, added that given the allegations were not a secret, it was probably a calculated risk to close the deal anyway. She added neither the qia, Credit Suisse which represented the fund in the deal nor harrods have responded to multiple requests for comment regarding the process. Harrods has said it is utterly appalled by the allegations about Mohamed Al fayed and that his victims had Been failed. Marc ashdown, Bbc News. It looks like a pretty grey scene Behind you . Yes, a sign of what is to come, rachel. Good morning to you both. A bit on the chilly side, butjust to sum up the week, we have some pretty wet and windy weather to come, especially for england and wales over the next couple of days. Staying on the Cool Side as well. But things will brighten up from midweek onwards, but we will see the return of some Light Frost and a bit of mist and fog. The wet and windy weather i mentioned is coming courtesy of this developing Area of low pressure pushing towards us right now. A ridge of high pressure of the most of the country to start the day, so for many, dry and bright start. Some Hazy Sunshine around and a fair bit of cloud. Patchy rain across parts of Orkney And Shetland which will gradually clear. The cloud already thickening up, the breeze strengthening towards wales, the southwest and Northern Ireland. Gales around the coast quite readily later this morning, and outbreaks of rain developing only slowly through the morning and into the afternoon. Fairly hit and miss to Begin with but then it will persist to the southwest later. To the North And East, many will stay drive through daylight hours, a strengthening Breeze But Nothing untoward. After a chilly start with the cloud around it is not going to warm up particularly quickly. 13 15 the afternoon highs. Focusing on The Rain for the evening, if you Are on the move Northern Ireland, wales and the move Northern Ireland, wales and the southwest, The Rain will turn heavier and more persistent, especially for south wales and more persistent, especially for south wales in southwest england. The rain also developing through Southern England, the midlands, and that Area of heaviest rain were pushing towards the midlands and across the south through tonight. When strengthening through the English Channel as well. Around the coast of Southern England and wales we could see gusts of 50 or 60 miles an hour. That doesnt mean tonight will Be as chilly as Last Night, certainly much milder in the south where we have that persistent rain. This Area of low pressure responsible, notice how this just slows down as it tracks across the country On Monday, wrapped around it is the Weather Front which, through monday, Will Push into East Anglia, parts of Northern England, the North Midlands and north wales. This is where well see heaviest and most persistent rain, across the North Midlands, and yorkshire, they could see the highest Rainfall Totals. Wetter weather across the west of scotland, northern Ireland And Other Parts of wales, may Be turning a bit right and milder towards the south, staying dry in the northeast of scotland. That Area of low pressure hangs around us we go through into tuesday, eventually easing away by wednesday, but that does mean that on tuesday we still have the potential for more rain across eastern Areas coming back in. Strong and cold winds along eastern coasts. A bit drier and brighter towards the north and the west. Eventually it is that drier, brighter and cooler weather which will wind through as weather which will wind through as we go into The End of the week. Wednesday, thursday and friday, for many, looking drier and brighter with some sunshine, Night Frost and frog. Fog. Given the fact the ground Are so saturated and river levels Are so high, we need to keep an eye on the forecast Because rain could tip the balance into some further flooding. Could tip the balance into some furtherflooding. Back could tip the balance into some further flooding. Back to you both. Lets return to our main story this morning, which is the rising tensions in the Middle East. As weve Been hearing, israels Prime Minister Benjamin-netanyahu'>Benjamin Netanyahu says it settled The Score when the leader of hezbollah was killed in an Air Strike on Beirut On Friday. Iran has vowed to retaliate, leading to fears of a wider war in the Middle East. Lets speak now to jane kinninmont, who is a Middle East analyst. Jane, good to have you with us. Firstly, your overview, your take on the developments in the last 2a or 36 hours with this killing of Hezbollahs Leader, her Sons Roller . Hassan nasrallah. This Hassan Nasrallah. This assassination Hassan Nasrallah. This assassination of Hassan Nasrallah. This assassination of Hassan I Hassan Nasrallah. in 3 assassination of Hassan Nasrallah is an exceptionally significant event for the long Running Conflict Between israel and hezbollah, and also for iran. And there Are questions now Being raised about the future of hezbollah, but it is also quite early to tell, this has Been a long Running Conflict, the previous leader of hezbollah was also assassinated by israel in this conflict, so it is quite early to say how much of a victory this might represent for israel at this stage. With your help, i would like to unpack some of the reaction and comments that have Been made, to help our viewers kind of understand the meaning Behind them. Firstly, israel saying this is historic turning point. What does israel mean by that . Turning point. What does israel mean b that . ,. , turning point. What does israel mean b that . , turning point. What does israel mean b that . ,. , by that . Nasrallah has Been a very siunificant by that . Nasrallah has Been a very significant leader by that . Nasrallah has Been a very significant leader and a very i significant leader and a very significant leader and a very significant playerfor significant leader and a very significant player for both hezbollah itself but also the wider sector of groups that, together with iran, call themselves the resistance to israel. Now, israel has assassinated not only nasrallah, but also most of the top layer of hezbollahs military command, and they will Be hoping that this severely degrades the group, and that it severely degrades the group, and thatitis severely degrades the group, and that it is a turning point, but as you always find with these larger movements, there is also the chance that they will Be able to bounce back and recruit again, there have Been hundreds of civilians killed in the past few days, lebanon could increasingly Be heading towards a failed state, so it is also quite likely there will Be a new generation of people that Are very anti israel in lebanon. So inaudible timescales, the us is hoping that there might Be an opportunity for israel to reach some kind of deal with hezbollah now that it is in a weakened state, but at the moment this seems may Be a bit too hopeful. We the moment this seems may Be a bit too hopeful too hopeful. We have a slight issue on the mind too hopeful. We have a slight issue on the mind but too hopeful. Just try to make sense of this response from the iranian leader, saying that the death of nasrallah will not go on avenged. That suggests some sort of retaliation. Iran is not in a good position to retaliate in a major way, good position to retaliate in a majorway, but good position to retaliate in a major way, but it will feel that if it does nothing, it will look extremely weak and will even risk a possible attack by israel at some stage on iran. At the same time, if it retaliates it could also risk an attack by israel on iran or even draw in the united states. So it will probably Be quite limited in how it responds, and tried to push other groups that they support, like the Hootie Movement in yemen and various iraqi militias, to do the bulk of the response to israel and to Fire Is missiles towards it, which is an increased risk as well of attacks on american troops in the region, particularly in iraq and in syria, as the us is so close to israel but iran impact forces might well go after american soldiers. Hello, youre watching breakfast with Rachel Burden and Ben boulos. Its probably something few of us have ever thought about . How do you access the contents of a loved Ones Phone if they die . But when Martyn Hall from anglesey lost his Wife Lynne unexpectedly earlier this month, he desperately wanted to use some of their wedding photos, which were on her phone, as part of her Funeral Service. Hes Been ubable to access them Because he doesn t know the password, and cant have the phone unlocked Because of apples strict privacy rules. Our reporter, matthew richards, has the story. Lynn hall died suddenly from a Brain Haemorrhage three weeks ago. Her husband, martin, has a few precious photos from their six year marriage, but wants to use more, which Are on her phone during her Funeral Service next month. He also wants to contact her friends to inform them of her death. Yeah, so as you can see, its now just totally locked. Iphone unavailable. Lynn used a passcode or facial identification to unlock her phone, and Martin Hasnt Been able to access her data. I tried obvious ones dates of birth, Marriage Date and things like that, but i knew lynn was conscious. You always get told, dont make it obvious. Dont make it an obvious code. None of it worked, so that wasnt going to Be accessible that way. So then it was, i thought, the only thing i can do is contact apple support. I contacted apple support, butjust got no help from them whatsoever. Apple says. But martin says hes Been left frustrated in his efforts to deal with the company. In terms of apple and the data on the phone, its just a brick wall. They just say no. Social media firms recommend nominating a legacy contact, but this needs to Be done by the registered customer during their lifetime. Legal experts say theres no automatic right to someones data after their death, and it can Be an important protection. Unfortunately, were seeing this more and more regularly as solicitors working in the wills and probate Area. The problem is that people make provision for their wills and they make provision for their tangible assets, but they dont think about their digital assets. Martin knows he may not Be able to access the information he needs in time for lynns funeral, but says he wants to raise awAreness of the challenges others could face if they dont clarify their wishes Before its too late. Matthew richards reporting there. We re nowjoined by Tech Expert Fevzi turkalp. I think ithinka i think a lot of people will Be surprised at how difficult it is to access a Loved One s device if you dont have the password. Poor martin, how frustrating for him. It is not necessarily guarantee that he will Be able to get into it, is it . No, it is farfrom guaranteed. There is some Case Law on this. In 19 a woman from london won a three Year Battle against micro apple to get pictures of her daughter growing up and so forth and it took three years. Apple Are unlikely to just roll over Because they do god privacy, even after death. God. And in some cases people might not want everything on their phone to Be divulged so it is important for people to say what they want, to make a list of all the accounts they own, the devices they own, the digital assets that Are on them. If they want them to Be accessed then back them up locally, so you take control away from the terms and conditions of these companies which, by the way will vary. Even facebook has different terms than instagram, even though they Are owned by the same company. They all work on a very different basis. The law in this country, that is no rule that if someone dies without a will there assets Are divided according to assets Are divided according to assets laid down in law, there is nothing equivalent for digital assets. So there Are problems. You can register a Legacy Content delete macro contact, and also in your veil you can give it a go. And dont forget the lasting power of attorney, if the person were not to pass away but were to lose their mental faculties, pass away but were to lose their mentalfaculties, again, a Loved One may want to access certain pictures which would Be even more important if that person has dementia. So you can put in lasting power of attorney or you can put it in a will. You can say who you want to deal with this matter. But for someone in martin s position now, he has to think about a solicitor if he really wants to challenge it. A solicitor if he really wants to challenge it. From what you Are Sa Inc challenge it. From what you Are saying there challenge it. From what you Are saying there Are challenge it. From what you Are saying there Are lots challenge it. From what you Are saying there Are lots of challenge it. From what you Are saying there Are lots of ways i challenge it. From what you Are saying there Are lots of ways of| saying there Are lots of ways of avoiding falling into this situation that martin finds himself in so why do you think more people dont take the opportunity to avoid having this hassle and this heartache that can result from it . I hassle and this heartache that can result from it . Result from it . I guess a lot of us think we Are result from it . I guess a lot of us think we Are immortal result from it . I guess a lot of us think we Are immortal and i result from it . I guess a lot of us think we Are immortal and we i result from it . I guess a lot of us i think we Are immortal and we dont like to think about our demise. And sometimes these may not Be easy things to think about Because there is a lot of this stuff out there and you need to think about what you want done with it. Some accounts you may want deleted. There may Be dating websites, all sorts of things that people have, that would either not Be relevant or might Be embarrassing so people have to give it some thought. I Believe we just dont like thinking about it. I think that is probably true. Is there a one Stop Shop Service where you can manage all these things so that it you can manage all these things so thatitis you can manage all these things so that it is easy then to pass over to someone else in the event of your death . It someone else in the event of your death . ,. , ,. ,. , death . It is very hard to have a Guarantee Death . It is very hard to have a guarantee Because death . It is very hard to have a guarantee Because what death . It is very hard to have a guarantee Because what you i death . It is very hard to have a i guarantee Because what you have got is your wishes and English Law butting up against the terms and conditions of usually american companies, and those two things can often Be in conflict. But as i mentioned, what you can and should do is a will and in your will list your digital assets and what you want done with them and if you want a different executor to deal with those than the physical assets. And the lasting power of attorney. That is the central statement of what you want to happen, and it is quite powerful either in persuading a Tech Company to release access to the data, or to persuade a court to provide a court order. A lot of these companies, when faced with a court order, will they want to cover themselves and not later Be sued by another party. It is themselves and not later Be sued by another party another party. It is worth also Sa Inc another party. It is worth also saying that another party. It is worth also saying that both another party. It is worth also saying that both apple another party. It is worth also saying that both apple and i another party. It is worth also i saying that both Apple And Google have facilities within their devices where you can nominate a legacy contact, something they call an inactive account manager, so someone could potentially get access to these devices. Could potentially get access to these devices. Yes. I think the oint these devices. Yes. I think the point there these devices. Yes. I think the point there is these devices. Yes. I think the point there is that these devices. Yes. I think the point there is that is these devices. Yes. I think the point there is that is right, these devices. Yes. I think the L Point there is that is right, there Are legacy contacts in apple and others in google, but its worth noting that it is a good idea, but first of all you have to do it for all the accounts. There is no single point that will cover everything, although a lot of people have their services Between Apple And Google. Even then, what that allows a Loved One to do after the death of, say, a spouse is different. In some cases it allows the data to Be shAred and in other cases it allows control of the account. So some social media companies, for example, when murray lies an account so they will leave up, say, the Facebook Account but make it clear that that person has passed on. It starts with a list of the accounts that you own a list of the accounts that you own a list of the devices that you own, and a list of the digital assets that you want to either preserve, or have deleted. 0k. It is Life Admin that we all avoid doing, but it is worthwhile, if only to save the hassle of Loved Ones when you do die. Thank you. Really useful conversation. Time now for some sport. Every so often one player shines brighter than all the other. Absolutely, and that is Cole Palmer who had stolen the headlines from the weekend. A superb performance from him, physically for chelsea. Four goals in the first half, a wonderful performance from him. So good for england. One of my favourite players at the moment. Once again it was the Cole Palmer Show at Stamford Bridge as Beat-brighton'>Chelsea Beat Brighton 4 2. The England Midfielder Became the first player to score four goals in the first half of a Premier League game. Enzo mAresca has had a good to start to life as Chelsea Boss, theyre fourth in the table after six games, and the manager was full of praise for palmer after the match. Scored four, could have i scored two or three more. So its good that he continued to Be hungry, ambitious and i know call. From many years ago. I had him already one entire season with under 23 at city and then with the first team. The Best thing he has is that i in the way he is today as a boy, he was exactly in that way three or four years ago. So goals, assists, Best player of the Premier League. This doesnt change the way he is. Its a simple guy. Its a humble guy. And this is for him. And this is for me is the most important thing. There Are two more matches today. Ipswich Host Aston Villa at 2pm, then its manchester united V Tottenham at old trafford. Both have had mixed start to the season. Speculation has increased again following a somewhat underwhelming i i again following a somewhat underwhelming 1 1 draw. We will Be judged and that is normah we will Be judged and that is normal. For every Game Everyone is expected normal. For every Game Everyone is expected united to win. We know that expected united to win. We know that it expected united to win. We know that it is expected united to win. We know that. It is not a secret for anyone. When that. It is not a secret for anyone. When you that. It is not a secret for anyone. When you Are in this club, you have to deal when you Are in this club, you have to deal with when you Are in this club, you have to deal with this spectre, and we do. I think erics in a real toughjob. Hes done really well. You know, he keeps mentioning hes won two trophies and he has, you know. So i dont think thats insignificant. Everyone keeps telling me thats all i have to do. But obviously its not all you have to do, you know . Because when you do that, then theres more. Theres always more. So i think hes done a greatjob. Like i said, a difficultjob. Rangers will look to narrow the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders celtic when they face hiBernian at lunchtime. Their old firm rivals just keep on winning they Beat stjohnstone 6 0 away with Kyogo Furuhashi scoring twice. Theyve now won all six league games this season, alongside aBerdeen, who they lead on goal difference. Englands women will play the first match of the international Wxvi Tournament later, against the usa in canada. Head Coachjohn Mitchell has criticised the organisers saying his players dont deserve to play in Front Of Non Crowds, with concerns around Ticket Sales for the tournament. And that was the case for scotland and wales as they Began the second Tier Wxv2 Competition in south africa. Scotland, who won it last year, Beat italy 19 0, but there were only a handful of spectators in the 58,000 Capacity Dhl Stadium in cape town. Disappointment for wales, who were Beaten by australia. They had high hopes after Beating the wallaroos for the first time in a warmUp Game last week, but australia racked up six tries on their way to a record 37 5 victory against the welsh. Saracens Are top of the premiership after Beating Sale Sharks 45 26 to make it two wins out of two. Elliott daly scored two tries for sarries to secure a Bonus Point win and maintain their perfect start to the season. Sale stay seventh. Elsewhere there were wins for harlequins and northampton saints. All the results Are on the Bbc Sport Website and app. Warrington wolves will face Hull Kr in the Super League play off semi finals after Beating St Helens in a dramatic match on saturday. Wolves thought theyd done enough as Matty Ashton pounced on a Saints Error to put them ahead with 15 minutes to go. Mark percival kicked Saints Level in the very last second, taking the match to Golden Point Extra Time. There were a few tense few minutes but wolves held their nerve with George Williams kicking them into the semi finals. Plenty more action throughout the day. Well Be back with the headlines at 8am, but now its time for click. Were getting used to ai Being able to do uncannily human things, chatting with us, creating pictures and videos. But so far, all of this ai has used a lot of computing power. Even if youve Been doing these things on your phone, its Been massive supercomputers in the cloud that have Been doing the work and then sending the results down to your device. See, it turns out that the chips these computers were already fitted with, called graphics processing units, gpus, Are also really good at the calculations needed for al. Its also the reason why Gpu Manufacturer Nvidia has risen to Be one of the most valuable companies in The World, but in the last year or so, weve seen the arrival of a new type of chip, an npu neural processing unit. Now, these Are specifically made for al, and Because they Are smaller than gpus, it means you can fit them in one of these. That means that these chips can do some limited alon your phone. And thats why weve started to hear phone manufacturers hyping up their apple intelligence, samsung advanced intelligence, and enhanced personal assistants like siri and googles gemini that can have more natural conversations with us. New honor phones will understand the contents of your messages and open the Best app to assist in whatever youve received. If its an address, for example, itll open maps. This Samsung Phone can now take your handwritten notes, summarise them, and make them into lists. Your telephone can. Your phone can translate in real time. And in fact, googles new pixel phones will listen to your phone calls and summarise them for you in Text Form after you hang up. Its notjust phones that Are getting smarter, mind you. This is the latest microsoft surface pro, one of the new co Pilot Plus Brand of pcs and tablets with onboard npus. Now this uses the inbuilt ai in a numBer of ways. First, would you Believe, good old Microsoft Paint has had a generative Ai Upgrade . Now you can Be a terrible artist and no One Need ever know. Paint s Ai Assistant co creator will take the most pathetic of drawings and use it as a guide to come up with something far more artistic. Dum de dum. Now you know when youre on a Video Call and the other persons eyes Are not quite looking at you Because theyre actually looking at their screen and not the webcam at the top here . Well, this computer will raise your eyes up to make it look like youre maintaining Eye Contact with the other person. Now, the effect is really, really subtle, but mayBe if i turn it on and off, you can see it artificially tweaking the top of my eyes. There it is. Off, on, off. Its so subtle and ever so slightly freaky. And then theres possibly the most far reaching use of ai and large Language Models that ive seen so far. Its called recall. This is like a photographic memory for your pc. Every few seconds it takes a screenshot of what youre doing, and if much later on, you vaguely rememBer something that you saw that you wanted to find again, you can descriBe it to the on board assistants, and the large Language Model will go looking amongst all of the thousands of screenshots for things that might match. Now, i know what youre thinking. If your computer is recording everything that you do all the time, huge privacy alarms, am i right . That is why microsoft is going to great lengths to reassure users that everything to do with recall stays on the device. Nothing goes anywhere near the cloud. You can also turn recall on and off for different websites, and this is also the reason why this feature is still Being finalised and hasnt Been rolled out yet, Because this is one that microsoft has to get right. Google has launched a similar feature for its pixl phones. Here, you have to manually take a screenshot, after which it Becomes searchable in the same way. Again, everything happens on device to keep everything private. In order to work well, ai needs to consume a lot of training data. I mean, in an idealworld, it would swallow everything about every one, but that is something that people Are starting to get worried about. And i think these new onboard neural processing units Are partly there to allay those concerns. They Cant Match the power of ai in the cloud, but they do allow certain Ai Functions without your data Being shAred with the rest of The World. And it means that your personal assistant can stay a little bit more personal. Many of us lead hectic lives, dashing from one place to another. But whether youre at work, in the supermarket or at home, have you ever really thought about how spaces Are designed . Welcome to a building within a building at ucl s pearl lab. The way that people move and interact with their surroundings can Be observed, measured and analysed under controlled conditions. The aim is to help create Better real buildings as a result. Lighting, acoustics and even smells can Be tweaked. Todays experiment is monitoring how people move through spaces in an Art Gallery Situation and with a few challenges thrown in. The decisions that they make along the way. As well as the 18 cameras that Are monitoring the way that people move around the space, there Are a lot of wearables, including this Eeg Device thats got 64 sensors on it thats monitoring brain activity. And then over here, this Eye Tracking Device monitors your eye movements. Itll record them on the phone as well. So whatever youre looking at here will Be seen on the device. And this is called the bright light frontal. It shines light into the head to see the blood flow, to see if somebody is Being stimulated by the things that theyre seeing around them. Its this mixture of eyes, brains, and heart rates that will help architects and their designers plan the buildings of tomorrow. Neuro architecture is the concept of designing efficient environments based not only on technical parameters, ergonomics and environmentalfactors, but also on emotion, happiness and well Being. The aim is also to create more diverse environments, ones that Are good for more people. Right now, designers try and come up with a building that will work well, but actually to do that, you want to know about the people, how they feel, whats happening in their body to really create the Best possible buildings for a healthier society, a more sustainable future. We need that extra information. Buildings and how theyre expected to Be used Are often planned with the help of a digital twin. Thats a virtual model of them. These Are data hungry, but an important way of predicting issues Before a brick is even laid. One of the things that were aiming to do here today is to take simulation to the next level, Because simulation typically assumes that all humans Are the same. Were able to kind of bring in what humans Are good at, together with an Ai Tool that, for example, can treat large data sets and really identify things in it that we might not immediately Be awAre of. The Participants Today were from a mix of The Worlds of architecture, transport, ai property, video game design, dance museums, Bbc Tech shows and more. Weve Been told there Are no instructions. Just walk around, talk to people if you want to. Nobody seems to Be talking to each other. There Are also these envelopes. It says to open when instructed. Im wanting to open it now. I want to Be reBellious. But no, it might ruin it, i wont. Im interested you give people no instructions. Theyve all gathered there watching something. A couple of people go wandering off. I want to go and wander off there, for no particular purpose. Participant id 64. Order of screens to visit. Starting top left and working down each column. What . Ive got to visit all of those screens. Ok, lets get started. Right. NumBer 11, first. Hello, everybody. Well done. Youve completed the task. That was fascinating in itself. Never mind the data thats Being collected, butjust to see the way that people Behave. First of all, nobody spoke to each other. Then we started chatting a bit. Well, i started talking to people a bit. We were all quite relaxed. As soon as we had a task to do, it immediately got competitive and quite manic, and then going round in circles you start to feel quite strange. Im wondering how all of that came across in the measurements, especially for the people that were having their brains tracked. The findings will Become part of a database that will Be drawn on for years. But can anything Be gleaned . A week on from the experiment. There were things where people did extra things wed not expected. So one of those was to sort of break out of the space. And the tracking did extend to some extent. And i think thats telling us something interesting. Who decided to break the rules and who decided to stick within the bounds . People came up with, like cognitive offloading on the day. They kind of used tools to help them rememBer things that we hadnt anticipated, which is what happens in real life. So itll Be interesting to see who does what and how predictable people Are. Can you predict whos going to Be, you know, naughty or whos going to Be rigidly stuck to the rules . This experiment marks the Beginning of a journey of discovery. The architects and neuroscientists will continue to learn more from the data about how we interact with spaces in the real world, and this could eventually influence the Design And Feel of the places that we inhabit. And thats it for the short version of the programme. Full Length Show can Be found on iplayer. Thanks for watching. Well Be back next week. Bye bye. The ball is in the court of Hezbollah And Iran at the moment, hezbollah has seen its leadership decimated but still has a huge arsenal of weapons, much more sophisticated than The Ones used in the conflict so far, some capable of Israels Bombardment of the lebanese capital has Been ongoing. You can see the Areas theyve hit over the last week. Officals in lebanon say around 800 people have Been killed since monday. And it was one of those attacks, highlighted here, in which Hassan Nasrallah was killed. Our middle East Correspondent Hugo bachega is in Beirut this morning. Hugo weve heard talk of retaliation from the leader of iran. Are there any other signs that there may Be a wider war in the region . I think this is the big fear, we have seen a missile fired at israel last eight, the military intercepted but this has Been the concern that the iranian backed organisations could join hezbollah and the fight, and yemen, alike and cilia. We have not seen so far any sane of a more coordinated effort to attack israel but that remains a huge concern and an lemon on that as a tense and anxious wait for a possible Hezbollah Response after the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah who for three decades was the head of a group that was often descriBed as a state within a state, highly influential, extremely powerful and the authorities Are very concerned that a wider Israeli Offensive could put pressure on basic services, we have seen hundreds of people have Been killed, thousands injured as a result of the attacks, hundreds of thousands displaced, hospitals saying they Are struggling to cope with the sheer numBer of casualties from the Air Strikes. A lot of pressure on the shelters as well across the Country Housing these displaced residents and Last Night the lebanese Prime Minister gave a warning that his country was facing a dangerous moment. The mp, Rosie Duffield, has resigned from the Labour Party Because of what she called sir Keir Starmer s cruel policies and hypocrisy over his acceptance of gifts. Our political correspondent Damian Grammaticus reports. We all had our faith in Keir Starmer, in a Labour Government, and ifeel that voters and activists and mps Are Being completely laughed at and completely taken for granted. You can hear the whole interview with Rosie Duffield on sunday with Berg'>Laura KuenssBerg, here on Bbc One, at 9am. Joining us now is our chief political correspondent henry zeffman. Henry whats the reaction Been so far to this resignation . This is simultaneously shocking and not really shocking at all. As you would healing Rosie Duffield has Been uneasy visibly and the Labour Party for some years especially on theissue party for some years especially on the issue of womens rights and transgender rights although in the last couple of years the Labour Party position has moved a bit closer to where Rosie Duffield is but when you add in the issues she raised in her Resignation Letter thatis raised in her Resignation Letter that is not necessarily that surprising that she has decided to quit the liBeral party. On the other hand it is startling to do so less the three months since a general election. Mps leave Political Parties Are sometimes, even day for two another party, Rosie Duffield has not done that but i cannot think of an example of someone doing so so soon after winning a general election. That will mean some people will want to to design and fight for her seat in a By Election but the political risk for Keir Starmer is that a lot of people thought when he won the general election he would notjust won the general election he would not just give won the general election he would notjust give people a Labour Government, he would also stop the political chaos. On this score at least he does not seem to Be doing that yet. Least he does not seem to Be doing that et. ~ ,. , the Conservative Partys annual conference starts today in birmingham. He might Be more comfortable Landing Punchlines than paso dobles, but comedian Chris Mccausland, who is registered blind, has already impressed the judges as a contestant on strictly come dancing. If Shaun Hayward is a dancer with the same Sight Loss Condition as chris, and he hopes that more people will now Be inspired to get moving. Mairead smyth went to meet him. Dancing the cha cha, Chris Mccausland and diane boswell. Liverpool comedian Chris Mccausland is already a Standout Star of this years strictly the first blind dancer to take part, and hes inspiring others like him. Its absolutely fantastic that we Are shining a light on dancing with sight loss, with disabilities, and just generally it encourages anyone, hopefully, to think you know what . I can do this. Shaun, who has the same Sight Loss Condition as chris, started dancing 1a years ago. Once id learned the maths of the feet, than i could apply that to the funk in my body. I started with salsa and modern jive, which i always say to people to start with, especially anybody with a disability, Because its so inclusive. Its easy to learn and it gets you confident. But he only started lessons in the last couple of years. Its inspirational, if youre teaching him anything and he hasnt quite got it, he wants you to go over it and it over until he does actually get it. So hes such a positive person, and to Be perfectly honest, he has actually educated me as well, while ive Been teaching him. Shaun also suffers from charles bonnet syndrome, which causes hallucinations, common in people who lose their sight. When i was about 25, thats when i really noticed that i had lost someones face, and that was heartbreaking, to Be honest. Im constantly hallucinating, and thats Because when youve seen in the past, you can get this condition, the visual cortex is just playing up saying i want to see things and when im dancing it helps me to just Be in that moment. So the hallucinations ride with me, rather than coming at me. He started to compete, and has even danced at the home of ballroom. I was the first blind person to ever qualify to compete at the winter gardens in blackpool. It meant the absolute world, and ijust thought, if my father could see me now. Hed always wanted me to dance. The last year has Been tough Because of injury and illness. Shauns Guide Dog kev has got him through the tough times. Hes Been amazing. The last time i stayed in hospital i decided kev was going to stay with me, it was just great to have him with me. It was just the therapy of it, hes not just a Guide Dog. I want people, whatever the issue is, if youve got social anxiety, especially after covid, dancing will break that for you. As they say, dance like no ones looking. I always did. Yeah, follow my lead. Mairead smyth, Bbc News. Not surprised to hear that chris Being on strictly is encouraging other people. Absolutely brilliant last year. Last night. A woman who resorted to botox and was prescriBed Anti Depressants in an attempt to solve her painful teeth grinding says the solution was, in fact, a Self Help guide developed by researchers at the University Of Leeds. Molly haworth has now Been able to manage her condition through massage and is no longer in pain. Our reporter Beth-parsons'>Beth Parsons went to meet her to find out more. When i was about 13 or 1a, someone noticed that i was grinding my teeth at night. As i got a bit older, i kind of noticed that the grinding was causing seizing in myjaw, it was tightening it, the muscles were really tight and tense. General pain in the whole of my head and my shoulders, really. Molly used to grind her teeth at night time and pay for it throughout the day. On the worst days i would kind of struggle to eat solid foods, or really, really chewy foods. It would impact the sort of, how wide i could open myjaw. The headaches would impact me throughout the day, i had to take paracetamol quite regularly for that. Shes tried botox and antidepressants, both trying to relax the muscles that Are part of the problem. Shes also had mouthguards, something that protects the teeth for a short amount of time but does not actually tackle the problem. They make hard and soft mouthguards and ive had both, i have chewed through multiple. Here at the University Of Leeds, Dr Vishal Aggarwal understands the issue. He says that1 in 3 of us grind our teeth, and 1 in 15 of us will experience painful symptoms Because of it. So this is your Masseter Muscle, and your temporalis muscle. The Masseter Muscle, if you put your two fingers on your face there and clench your teeth, you will feel a bulge. And if you put your two fingers on the temporalis and you clench your teeth, you can feel a bulge. And those Are the muscles that cause the symptoms. Vishal has developed a guide that tackles the psychological aspects of the habit, as well as physical techniques to reduce pain. Massage your Masseter Muscle from where it originates, to where it inserts in your lower jaw. So starting with the four fingers on your masseter, slide them downwards, gently onto the lowerjaw. As you massage, you interrupt the pain pathway, you get Pain Relief, and you also stop clenching, so its killing two birds with one stone. Vishal is passionate about helping people like molly get relief from the pain. This actually broke the cycle, broke the habit. And although you do have to put some work in, it probably was less work and time than ive spent going to see dentists about the problem. The guide, which is called Self Management of chronic orofacial pain, is available forfree on the University Of Leeds website. Beth parsons, Bbc News, leeds. A day of change after a dry start when we will see some wet and windy weather develop from the south west which could affect some of us at least over the next day or two and by mid week things will start to brighten up. That is your week ahead injust will start to brighten up. That is your week ahead in just a nutshell. Today s wet and windy weather is courtesy of this Area of low pressure. Most Are under a ridge of high pressure at the moment. It is chilly out there and reasonably bright towards the North And East of the country and we will continue to see spells of Hazy Sunshine. Rain in Orkney And Shetland fizzling out. Cloud will increase from the South And West and it is Northern Ireland, wales and the south west that will see outbreaks of rain and gales develop around hills and coast through this afternoon in particular. Temperatures in a south to south easterly wind will not lift a great deal. Especially with the strongest of the winds towards the south west. 13 15 c during this afternoon. As we go through the evening and into the night, The Rain Becomes heavier and more persistent across wales and the south west and that will put across those Areas hit worst by flooding through this week, and whilst Rainfall Totals Are not massive, given the fact the ground is saturated and rivers Are high it will have impact on two Tomorrow Morning s rush hour, which will start off milder than this morning. The low pressure is slow moving across england in particular On Monday, and this time we start with heavy rain at East Anglia and the south east but parts of the North East, midlands, lincolnshire, yorkshire and North East, midlands, lincolnshire, yorkshire and North West england seeing the most persistent rain accompanied by strong winds. Here we could see impact developed through monday. Rain at times in the West And Something brighter and milder towards the south and North East of scotland. Into tuesday, the Area of low pressure still with us. Slow to clear away and we will see strong winds. On wednesday it starts to shift away properly. On tuesday further outbreaks of rain in the east with the wind making it feel cold on the North East coast but drier and brighter in the west. Before The Rain dissipates we could see some flooding issues. Thankfully not on the scale we saw on the other side is hurricane helene. Look at the extent of the flooding in north carolina. Over 700 millimetres, well over a year s worth of rain. We have seen even worse in mexico at the international airport here, and come agra Hurricanejon Medland full twice and we have seen a metre of rainfall in the space of three or four days. The impact has Been devastating. The question of whether alien life exists is one that has Been debated for decades, and for many still remains a subject of fascination. In septemBer 1967, families on a Housing Estate in stoke on trent descriBed seeing a ufo near their homes. More than 50 years on, the events Are Being retold in a new play. Our reporter, liz copper, has the details. Have you seen one . A sceptic . Aufo . No. The cast of bright lights over Bentilee. The play dramatises the sighting of a flying Saucer Landing in the potteries in 1967. There really was a sighting of a bright light and of something that was ufo shaped and was unidentified. And this story goes back to that and tells the story of what happened to the people that saw it, and what they might have seen. The idea that something might Be out there in general, and that this is like a genuine kind of world where people on a Mass Scale saw something in our Area. And i think thats kind of like really kind of wild and magical. In the late 60s, news reports covered the unexplained events on the Bentilee estate. It seemed like a saucer, you know, and then it changed in different colours. It changed like a red, and then it would come into a like of a greenish colour and then a blue. But there was no heat. It was just a red glow like a sunset. Those accounts inspired writer deb mcandrew. It was seen from all over the place, hanley and fenton. As part of her research on Bentilee, she also uncovered this report detailing 70 other ufo sightings. People who saw this were the ancestors of the people who live here now. Just ordinary people, you know, not fanciful people. Theyre just working people. And they saw something extraordinary one night in septemBer 1967. So itjust felt really magical. Did it happen . Yeah, it happened. And then that was it. And but they saw something. And i Believe them when they Tell Me they did. Flying things. Objects that cannot Be immediately identified. You mean. Unidentified flying objects. Right. The mysterious events in the skies over the city make a captivating story now Being told on the stage for audiences. A chance to reflect on a night that was sprinkled with stardust. That report was from liz copper. Im sure that brings back some vivid memories for some.
