And lebanon could agreed to a pause in the Cross Border strikes in a way to try to de escalate what is becoming increasingly tense conflict here. The israeli Prime Minister, benjamin and yahoos official office issued a statement which called that Cease Fire in american and french proposal said that he was yet to respond to officially but did say that the fighting would continue in their words at full force. Theyve said there will be no Cease Fire until they achieve victory over hezbollah. An israeli brigade that is based near the lebanese border at the moment has been carried out as you see here. These are exercises that are designed to train the troops and simulate a manoeuvre talked about by the head of the Israeli Armyjust 24 head of the israeli Armyjust 2a hours ago. There has also been this afternoon another explosion here in the southern suburbs of beirut. An area which is a hezbollah stronghold area, one which the Israeli Military have targeted several times in the last week when they have been trying to actually target hezbollah commanders. In our the Israeli Military called it a precise strike. They said that they had managed to target, they said, and kill the leader of hezbollah s air units, but hezbollah s air units, but hezbollah themselves have yet to respond to that. Only a few kilometres from where im talking to you now and i went across there to see the aftermath of that strike. Less than an Hour Aftermath of that strike. Less than an hour since aftermath of that strike. Less than an hour since this aftermath of that strike. Less than an hour since this air than an hour since this Air Strike was reported in the southern suburbs of beirut. I just want to show you, you can see there, this is an apartment on the first, second floor, you can see the damage thats been caused. The idf has called this a Precision Strike. When they carry out these operations in the southern suburbs they are normally targeting the senior leadership of hezbollah. Some of the senior commanders in this area jUst A few days ago. They killed hezbollah s head of Missile And Rocket programme. We know they been carrying out strikes and you can jUst Also see as well the aftermath of a moment like this. You can see members of hezbollah in The Street and also see that the army are here. You can hear the sound of sirens and ambulances arriving as well. And ijust want to show you in this direction, if you just come around, you can see the chaos in The Streets here as people tried to work out what has happened and as people try to work out who has been targeted. Of course, it really impacts the civilians who live in this area. Their Safety And Security as well when they see something like this happening very close to them. , like this happening very close to them. ,. To them. That was the scene Ust A to them. That was the scene jUst A few to them. That was the scene jUst A few kilometres to them. That was the scene jUst A few kilometres away l to them. That was the scene i jUst A few kilometres away here in beirut. Lets go live to jerusalem, our correspondent as they are. Daniel, what has been said they are injerusalem and in Israel Today as this Cease Fire proposal was put forward, and as weve seen from both sides these continuing attacks. ~ ,. , attacks. Well, this morning when this attacks. Well, this morning when this was attacks. Well, this morning when this was being attacks. Well, this morning when this was being speculated widely in the media and Around The World, israeli Prime Minister was on a plane to New York to the Un General Assembly, so he wasnt really available to comment, but some members of his government came out very strongly against a possible Cease Fire deal, the Finance Minister saying that they must keep Fighting Hezbollah and we hads office this morning saying that he had not yet responded to this Cease Fire deal but instructing his military to keep fighting. More recently, he stepped off the plane in New York and has been quoted here in israel and i willjust read some of what he said. He said, our policy is clear. We continue to hit hezbollah with all our might and we will not stop until we achieve all our goals. First of all, the safe return of the resident of the north to their homes. This is the policy that no one makes a mistake. And the goal hes talking about is the goal hes talking about is the goal the Government Set for itself. The Return Home of 6000 israelis that been under a bombardment from the north. Since then, we have seen a whole series of tax on hezbollah. The Walkie Talkie Explosion but, of course the Goal Hasnt been achieved because hezbollah has kept firing rockets. What we are seeing now is speculation about what might come next, including the possibility of a Ground Invasion which the head of the military was talking about in very blunt terms yesterday, and that same officer, the head of the military being quoted this evening here in israel is saying we must keep Fighting Hezbollah. We have been waiting for this Opportunity for years. Daniel, thank you, live from jerusalem. Lets speak to the bbc s World ServiceMiddle East correspondent. Youve been based here in lebanon but covering this region for many years now. I see another Precision Strike in beirut and we see continuing israeli strikes here. What is hezbollah s position . 50 strikes here. What is Hezbollahs Position . So far, we havent Hezbollahs Position . So far, we havent heard Hezbollahs Position . So far, we havent heard any we havent heard any confirmation from hezbollah, usually the group when they confirm that they have lost a commander, they issue an official statement and announce it officially. So far they havent received anything. I heard from my sources that the commander that was targeted probably has been severely injured and was taken to hospital, which was the case for other commanders right after the attacks. We heard exactly the same line from sources close to hezbollah. It takes a while to confirm it and they havent confirmed it yet thank you for the update, from the bbc s World Serviceable stoppage just want to bring you some of what the palestinian president has been saying at the Un General Assembly in New York. Hes been making his speech. Among the points he made he made she called on the international community to stop sending weapons to israel. This madness cannot continue. The entire world is responsible for what is happening to our people in gaza and the West Bank. The West Bank that is under a daily and continuous israeli aggression. I think as the day comes to a close here but obviously those sessions start to ramp up in New York. I think we will see a fresh round of rhetoric coming from there, fresh diplomacy as those efforts continue to try to stop the situation from escalating further. With me here in the studio to talk about this some more is our security correspondent, frank gardner. We saw little earlier those pictures of an israeli brigade involved in exercises that would simulate a Ground Offensive going into southern lebanon. It is a Ground Invasion inevitable . Plenty of people think it is. Certainly if there isnt a Cease Fire, then i think its pretty inevitable, yes. Because theres only so much that airpower can do. Israel found this out in 2006 in the last war with hezbollah. I remember very clearly because i was covering it from jerusalem and the first few days, the head of the first few days, the head of the israeli Air Force said, weve got this, we can do this from the air. But you cant, because a large part of Hezbollahs Strength is below ground and all those caves and tunnels and labyrinths that they have dug painstakingly over the years. Into the Hard Rock of the lebanon. Unless hezbollah agrees to a Cease Fire and agrees to stop rocketing the north of israel trying to prevent these attacks and says its own citizens can return It Safety to the north of israel. Unless that happens, think the Military Pressure now, especially when they feel theyve got hezbollah on the back foot that they will want to press home there advantage. Those troops we saw exercising there, that is a reserve brigade. They are going to be p brigade. They are going to be up against some highly combat experienced has the Law Word hezbollah, the regime against insurgents there. And they are well trained, they are well equipped, they know the terrain. They havent got the advantage, some of the advantages that israel has got, severe firepower, geospatial satellite intelligence, theyve got the us, of course, their backs. But nevertheless, its theirterrain, backs. But nevertheless, its their terrain, which is why in that speech a few days ago, we dont see israel coming into South Lebanon as a threat, we see it as a historic Opportunity. See it as a historic Opportunity. See it as a historic ouortuni. Opportunity. So what youre sa in Opportunity. So what youre saying is Opportunity. So what youre saying is you Opportunity. So what youre saying is you think Opportunity. So what youre saying is you think there. Opportunity. So what youre| saying is you think there will be considerable resistance from hezbollah to an israeli Ground Offensive, even taking into account the strikes against the hezbollah, and structure and other members of the group that we have seen in the last couple of weeks. I think theres two ways of looking at this. One is, look, militarily looked at in the hard cold light of day, hezbollah are in no position to fight a war. Their communications are in disarray because of the Pager And Walkie talkie attacks. They are still managing to fire rockets over the border into israel, but, you know, they are severely compromised. Clearly israel has got Human Informants on the ground. The fact that they know exactly where these and various top commanders are, they are hiding out in exec rooms. Somebody is well ching on where they are. Several people, israel has got a network of informants, clearly. Plus of Course Theyve got a very specific sophisticated way to listen and the peoples medications and intercept them. But, hezbollah is fighting israel is in its dna. Thats its entire reason for existing. So theyve not only got members in parliament, they are the most powerful, this is what israel is up against. They are highly motivated, they are ideologically opposed they were fighting tooth and nail. Remember israel was in lebanon for 18 years from 1982 2000, and they took some to casualties that in the end, it was politically unacceptable for them to stay there any longer domestically. It was very unpopular. There is already pressure from Israeli Society On Benjamin that yahoo, especially in relation to the hostages saying, bring a Cease Fire into gaza, get this done so we can get any hostages who are still alive home. But going back to lebanon, the us Defence Secretary would say earlier today that diplomacy was the best way for israel to achieve the goal of allowing israelis who had to leave the north of the country to be able to return to their homes they are right on the border with lebanon. I asked you earlier if you thought a Ground Offensive was inevitable. Another question is is a Cease FireOut Of The Question . Question is is a ceasefire Out Of The Question . Of the question . No, i dont think it is of the question . No, i dont think it is at of the question . No, i dont think it is at all. Of the question . No, i dont think it is at all. This of the question . No, i dont think it is at all. This comes| think it is at all. This comes back to gaza. And im glad you mentioned it. The Israeli Military has been fighting there for 11 months with the intention of Crushing Hamas and releasing the hostages. The only time hostages, almost the only time hostages, almost the only time, the Israeli Military managed to free one or two of them a tiny amount. The large Scale Release of hostages was done by diplomacy, Negotiation And Qatar with the help of the egyptians and the americans. Thats what the Hostage Families want to get them safely out of her mouth hands out of gaza and back into israel to do that this is the sticking point. Israel pulls its forces out of gaza and doesnt come back. Israel says we cannot guarantee that, you know, what if you stop bringing weapons in. The philadelphia corridor, the name of that border between gaza and egypt, that has been a huge amount of tunnels dug under that and weapons smuggled in. Israel doesnt want to leave that out, or at least Benjamin Netanyahu or at least benjamin Neta Nyahu doesnt. Or at least Benjamin Netanyahu doesnt. The comforting factor in all of us is that benjamin that yahoo is a very controversial figure that yahoo is a very controversialfigure in that yahoo is a very controversial figure in israel. He is not popular. In fact i would go further to say he is loathed by a lot of israelis and he has got some hard right members and his cabinet to say if you do a deal, whether its with hezbollah, or hamas, we resign, we quit, and his coalition falls apart. He will have to call elections, which he will certainly lose. He will then have to go then have to go thank you to our security then have to go thank you to our security correspondent. L Around The World and across the uk. This is bbc news. The metropolitan police in london have said theyre looking to see if anyone else can be pursued for criminal offences relating to the sexual Assault And Rape claims made against the former Harrods Owner, mohamed Al Fayed, who died last year. Around 200 former employees have come forward with accusations about him following a bbc documentary. The bbc has heard harrowing testimony from a woman who says she was raped by the former Harrods Owner when she was 16. Our correspondent Helena Wilkinson has been working with the Documentary Team and here is her report. A warning it contains details of a serious sexual nature. Before being attacked, kate, like many women weve spoken to, was sent for intimate examinations. Kate says hers was carried out by Dr Ann Coxon. When i first started working for mohamed Al Fayed, he soon asked. Started asking me inappropriate questions. Like, did i have a boyfriend . Had i been sexually active . I was only 16 years old and i was a virgin, and he soon discovered that. So, it was organised for me to see Dr Ann Coxon of Harley Street for a medical examination. This was offered to me as a perk for working in the chairmans office. Kates new testimony adds to accounts already broadcast in the bbc documentary, which has started to uncover the role of other people around Al Fayed who helped facilitate his abuse. And ijust remember the doctor, you know, saying how wonderful he was, and didnt he look after his employees so well . I think the doctor who did my medical should be held accountable for providing information to mohamed, which he used to take advantage of us. Two of the doctors dr wendy snell, who has since died, and Dr Ann Coxon have been repeatedly named by the women whove spoken to the bbc. Dr coxon asked me to do an internal examination. She wanted to test for hiv and stds, but i said that i wasnt sexually active yet so therefore it was unnecessary. My concerns were brushed off and i was told that an internal examination was necessary. According to the women weve spoken to, in many cases their confidential medical results were sent directly to Al Fayed. Once Al Fayed received their results, he abused them. And one night he summoned me to his apartment. Well, i was scared, but i knew that i didnt have an option to say no. And he started to pressurise me into having sex with him, but i kept saying no. And then his mood changed and the threats started, and he had become angry. The doors were locked and i couldnt get out. Thats when he raped me. The role of the doctors has raised further questions about who else facilitated Al Fayeds abuse. Women have told the bbc that some senior pas would send them up to his office, where they would then be abused. In previously unseen footage, one of the women, natacha, whos going to report Dr Coxon to the doctors regulator, and catherine, says others around Al Fayed have questions to answer. We were so taken advantage of, so taken advantage of. By this army of people. It was like, as you said, a production line. Looking back, thats exactly what it was. The client agency. To the doctor. The doctor. To the Lead Pa and even the security guards. What about the drivers . The drivers, the security guards, nobody let on. The bbc has contacted Dr Coxon for a comment. So far, we have not had a response. The growing number of women who accuse Al Fayed of horrific attacks now want those who enabled his abuse to be held accountable. Its affected so many areas of my life, but having to live with the deep shame of what happened to me from when i was young, being paranoid about walking by myself at night, not trusting men in any form, its changed the course of my Life And Career in its entirety. The bbc approached harrods for comment but as yet, have not had a response. Harrods new owners have previously apologised unreservedly and said the actions of Al Fayed were that of an individual intent on abusing his power. If youve been affected by anything raised, support is available at bbc. Co. Uk action line.
