I have lost count of how many trips to the Secretary Of State has taken to the region, met with either negotiators from the gulf, from egypt, etc, but the Bottom Line is the leaders have to be willing to enter into the ceasefire and of the requirements for that to be held, and so far the Prime Minister of israel has not been, he has not agreed, has changed, moved the Goal Post within those negotiations. The head of hamas has not agreed and that is what hezbollah, the hoof these, etc have said a ceasefire in gaza is necessary to stop the conflict with israel. Israel has ramped it up. For the first time in ten years people there are voting in local Assembly Elections in indian and unlisted kashmir. The region has led through a violent insurgency for decades all but although it has been under rule from delhi, it has had a lot of independence. And while some continue to boycott elections, others are coming out to vote. 0ur India CorrespondentArunoday Mukharji is in srinagar. Thanks for that. It is important to understand the last government in the region took power in 2014 but it was a Coalition Government and it broke down in 2018. Since then people here have had no local representatives in the assembly and that has led to a vacuum where people feel they have been voiceless for a long time not able to have a say in the regions affairs by these elections are important and why youve seen more voters come out but i want to put that question to a journalist who has been working in kashmirfor a long time. Thank you for joining us. You have been covering the kashmir, the elections, travelling across the region speaking to people and candidates. What are some of the main issues people are talking about that they are voting on . Talking about that they are votin on . ,. ,. , voting on . This is an election after a decade. Voting on . This is an election after a decade. When voting on . This is an election after a decade. When we voting on . This is an election after a decade. When we talkj after a decade. When we talk about the legislated local assembly, but the question is these are the first elections after the Special Status Inaudible With The Constitution was scrapped and it is also a fact during all this time it has been directly administered by New Delhi, so the issues are about local identity, local resources and the rights of locals, so basically the people are actually. This might be the only election in the entire country where the election is about local elections and the community. The rest of the issues like Development And Day to Day Life issues, they have found some kind of mention in the manifestoes of the parties, but the issue, the Core Issue is identity because after the scrapping of the Special Status of indian controlled kashmir, the loss of autonomous status people feel there is a danger to their Identity And Culture and they have seen it because there is no say in the government. It has been administered by a and appointed Government And Hierarchy are bureaucrats who do not belong to this region and do not have a local understanding so that is why there is a vacuum and people have gone to register for voting. It is an avenue they want to tell New Delhi that we have. ~. ,. , want to tell New Delhi that we have. ~. , have. Want a local government. Have. Want a local| government. Briefly, have. How these issues causing people to vote . In the past we have seen elections boycotted. Definitely. The issue is after the scrapping of Special StatusNew Delhi has changed to the goalposts. What i mean by that is the space for dissent, criticism, having a different opinion other than New Delhi has been criminalised and we have seen that in terms of crackdownss on journalists. When there is a criminalisation of the space to criticise the policies of the government, obviously voting is the only avenue for the people and this is the maximum empowering platform they feel and that is why people are voting. Why people are voting. These are the issues why people are voting. These are the issues they why people are voting. These are the issues they are why people are voting. These| are the issues they are voting on. Results will be announced on. Results will be announced on the eighth of october but how much power will this government have considering the fact this will still remain a federally administered region which means direct orders from the central government through the central government through the left Wing Governor who will be in charge of implementing them, so some questions as we carry on our coverage through the day of the second foes second phase are voting. Thank you. We will speak to you again soon on bbc news. See you in a moment. Hello there. Well, following the recent heavy rain, theres plenty of saturated ground out there, particularly across the South Midlands, and a lot of Standing Water too. This photo taken by our Weather Watcher in warwickshire on tuesday, when there was a bit of a break in all of the wet weather. A drier looking day, but theres more rain to come, including here over the next couple of days, and then it turns colder but also drier as we head into the weekend. So this was tuesday, then, on the satellite picture. You can see this break in the Weather Systems there, a nice little gap. But wednesdays low Pressure System approaches from the southwest. And ahead of that for the rest of the night, there will be some heavy showers across parts of Southern England. Clearer skies further north, and actually across parts of scotland, temperatures could drop as low as freezing. This is a sign of things to come, of course. But a lot milder further south under quite a lot of cloud and, of course, some misty conditions over the flooded fields. And then on wednesday morning, heavy, persistent rain will push into South West england, moving further northwards and eastwards up through wales, approaching the South Midlands and central Southern England by the time we get into the middle part of the afternoon. It does stay largely dry further north and west, a few showers across northern scotland, The Cloud amounts increasing across eastern england as we head through the second half of the day. And then on Wednesday Night into thursday, our low Pressure System continues to push further northwards and eastwards. Notice the brisk easterly winds developing across parts of northeast england, just driving more rain into northeast england. This is where well see the heaviest downpours, particularly over the higher ground of the north york moors. The rain stretching further west, out into northern ireland. Some showers to the north and to the south, but plenty of dry weather too. Feeling coolest, of course, across parts of scotland. And then our front starts to take a bit of a dive further south. It will really take its time as we head through Thursday Evening and into friday, not really clearing until the end of the day on friday. But Behind it, we draw in more of a northerly wind, so temperatures are going to drop away to well below the seasonal average. And actually on friday night, as we see high Pressure Build in from the South West and the winds lighten, there could be quite a widespread frost. So, these will be the temperatures as we head through the weekend. Feeling cooler but largely dry, i think, for many on saturday. Bye bye for now.
