When i got to be a tough to do that. When i got to be a tough decision, there is a purpose tough decision, there is a purpose but yes, want people to be better purpose but yes, want people to be better off, what hope to return be better off, what hope to return to be better off, what hope to return to britain. But be better off, what hope to return to britain. Be better off, what hope to return to britain. But one of those difficult return to britain. But one of those difficult decisions return to britain. But one of those difficult decisions and i those difficult decisions and cutting Winter Fuel Allowance physically controversial. It is these people set for Trade Unions that were not allowed to film inside that could prove a challenge for labours leadership. There are some of the Confidence Rate and the government revising the cuts on the Winter Fuel Allowance. You cant ask pensioners who are really struggling for just cant ask pensioners who are really struggling forjust over £12,000 to give up that type of money. It is not on. It is a bad decision and it is one that i personally dont believe stacks up with being a difficult choice when there are other choices to bridge that gap that you toys have left. Three taxi and wealth. The concern has only been hounded by the questions over freebies for labour ministers. Ever going to set your stall out that this is a government that is said to serve the country, i see it as public service, there is no room for this type of gifts. It is not clear if or when a vote on revising the Winter Fuel Allowance could happen and it would not be binding. But if all the celebrations here at labours election victory, its another sign of discontent among the Rank And File less than three miles into government. The charter was on Bbc Breakfast this morning where she again defended a decision to scrap Winter Fuel payments was submit lets listen to what you have to say. Lets listen to what you have to sa. ~ ,. , to say. When it big Shut Off the asda to say. When it big Shut Off the Asda Car to say. When it big Shut Off the Asda Car and to say. When it big Shut Off the Asda Car and learned i to say. When it big Shut Off the Asda Car and learned about the Asda Car and learned about the true extent of public finances and a 22 BillionBank Cup this year. When i became chancellor of the exchequer, and i learnt about the true extent of the public finances, and that £22 Billion gap this year and every subsequent year i had a choice. I could either continue what the conservatives did and cover that up, or i could be open and honest and transparent and set out a plan to fix the problems in the public finances. I decided to take that course of being open and honest. Now, i think thats the right thing, because i think that its important to level with people about what governments have to do to get a grip of the public finances, but by getting that grip, by bringing stability back to our economy, because weve been plagued by Chaos And Instability these last few years, along with the reforms were making, reforming the Planning System to get Britain Building, creating a national Wealth Fund to support home grown industries and jobs here in britain, reforming the Pension System to unlock money for start up and scale up businesses and get better returns for pension savers. If we can do these things, i know that the prize on offer is immense more money in peoples pockets, more good jobs, paying decent wages, more money to invest in our frontline Public Services, particularly our national health service. So stability combined with the reform to get Britain Building and get britain growing, is the prize that is on offer for governments that are willing to take the decisions to get our economy on a firmerfooting. Thats what ill be setting out in my Conference Speech Today and in the budget next month. 0ur Political correspondent Alex Forsyth is there for us. Clearly they are trying to shift the Toe Funding to up to seven. With a be any practical measures trying to do that all those have to wait anyway. Is trying to shift it from doom to optimism. The Treasury Team is already working on to optimism. The Treasury Team is already working on plans to optimism. The Treasury Team is already working on plans for l is already working on plans for the budget and as it always the case there, keep a very tight lipped about the content. I dont expect that Rachel Reeves is going to give us any great games or insight into the specifics that we are expecting from that budget was i think this speech will be more about tone as well as content, because as you say, there has been criticism or at least concern from some quarters that Lead Chain that has come from government in the Run Up to this conference and indeed, to the Run Up to the budget has been too gloomy and has had a Knock On Effect on Consumer Confidence and risk having a Knock On Effect on investment and one of the priorities in this government is getting the Economy Growing. We already had an Rachel Reeves in that individual gives you the bbc this and other interviews strike a bit of an optimism optimistic tone. She is depressed the price. Youre trying to explain to people why they had taken the decision she is currently taking. That actually used the word to the price. They need to reach economic stability before they can go and we will start to feel the difference in their pockets. Some of the unions want a vote of confidence on revising the cuts your Winter Fuel payments was updated it is a Mistake And Mistake from the government to press ahead with that. So far no sign from the government is going to budge and when she was was asked about this this morning she wanted to what she claims is that Black Hole in the public finances which meant she had to make that decision for the conservatives this read that there is a Black Hole in the public finances. Former President Donald Trump said that On Sunday that he doesnt think hed run again for president in 2028 if he falls short in his bid to return to the White House this november. He told a journalist that he thinks that would be it if he loses. The comment was notable both because trump seemed to rule out a fourth bid for the White House, and because he rarely admits the possibility he could legitimately lose an election. But keep in mind, trump would be 82 years old in 2028, a year older than president Joe Biden is now, and trump and many republicans have criticised President Biden for staying in the race as long as he did so. Possibly a nod to the fact that even mr. Trump is getting older. Mhm. This is Bbc News. Hello again. Weve had some torrential downpours of rain overnight, some parts of the South East having a Months Worth of rainfall. Not surprising the Met Office has an Amber Weather Warning in force for central and southern england, which is valid today up until nine oclock this evening. This rain, of course, falling on already saturated ground. Disruption is quite possible. There are already reports of flooding and also some disruption to transport. Its courtesy of this area of low pressure which eventually will pull away towards the east. But its produced Heavy Rain this morning in the South East. Its drifting that bit further west, the lighter colours telling you where the heaviest bursts are likely to be behind. Its sunshine and showers and further rain across northern england, and weve also got some Rain Sinking South across northern scotland, but in between something drier, a bit brighter as well, with our Temperatures Today ranging from ten in the north to 20 in the south. Now, through this evening and overnight, the rain pulls steadily eastwards. Therell be a lot of cloud in its wake, and we have the rain in the north of scotland sinking a little bit further south. With the wind here picking up. Its going to be a Cooler Night Tonight than it was last night as well, but temperatures between seven and about 13 degrees. So tomorrow we start off with the dregs of Todays Weather Front across the South East, producing this cloud and some spots of rain that moves away. The rain across scotland sinks a bit further south across central and eastern areas, eventually getting into northern england. But for western scotland, Northern Ireland and much of the rest of england and wales, it will be a drier day than today, with just a few showers and temperatures ten to about 18 degrees north to south. Then, as we move from tuesday into wednesday, were watching this system coming in from the atlantic. Its going to bring some Heavy Rain, we think at the moment across parts of england and wales and strong winds, potentially gales through the english channel. But it could well change the position of this. This is what we think at the moment, coming in from the south west, pushing north eastwards. North of that its a mixture of sunshine and showers, temperatures ten to 16 degrees. So youll notice these temperatures starting to slide a bit. But as we head towards the latter part of the week, the temperature will continue to slide. And by friday we could be looking at highs of 11 to 13. They are now at the conference in liverpool.
