With me is our correspondent, nicky schiller. What are the hospital saying . Great ormond Street Hospital must worldwide for treating children. It says it is looking into a 721 patients, all children, who had come into contact with yasarjabber while he worked as a surgeon. He is reported to be an expert in limb reconstruction. So far, of the 39 cases that have been reviewed, more than half were found to have been harmed, under 13 patients with severely. Lawyers representing some of the family should be treated by yasarjabber so children as young as four months old were subjected to unnecessary surgery and suffered life changing injuries, but one child having to undergo an amputation that could possibly have been avoided if different treatment had been followed. One of the solicitors representing seven of the children says the claims are shocking. Are shocking. The clients that we have been are shocking. The clients that we have been instructed are shocking. The clients that we have been instructed to i we have been instructed to represent in claims against Dr Jabber suffered a variety of orthopaedic injuries. Some of them have nerve damage, some have muscle damage. We have a client who has undergone an amputation of his lower limb. We have clients with permanent Deformity Set of undergone unnecessary operations as well. Great ormond Street Hospital is incredibly sorry for the Worry And Uncertainty cause, and that it has contacted all patients and families affected. In addition to the cases i talked about being fully reviewed, it said that a56 cases have been looked at by a senior nurse on the paediatrician come and have not been categorised as needing their most urgent attention. It is likely it will take 18 months for this review to be completed, and again the solicitor representing some of the children wants it done as quickly as possible. I understand the difficulties given the volume of the cases that it will take time to undertake that to have you come up undertake that to have you come up what we would urge the trust to do is to trying to undertake such of view as soon as possible. What we do know from representing clients who are children is that sometimes the injuries that dont manifest until they are much older, and families and our clients, the patients, want to know firstly if they have suffered harm from the treatment they have audited it received, alternative for the day are likely to are likely to suffer because of the treatment. If that is the case, they wish to seek Treatment And Advice elsewhere and it is important for them to know that. So the sooner the trust can conclude that the better. We know that they have asked five independent surgeons to review the care. We know it is a very niche of medicine, and the availability of surgeons will be limited, but we would urge them to widen the scots so more surgeons are involved so the review can be undertaken in this period time as possible. Have we heard from the surgeon . Yasarjabber no longer works for great ormond Street Hospital, and he has not been licensed to practice in the uk since january, but we understand he is working at an orthopaedic clinic in depay. We have contacted him for, but at we orthopaedic clinic in depay. We have contacted him for, but at the moment we havent heard the moment we havent heard anything back from him. Anything back from him. Contacted him for comment. Contacted him for comment. Israel has closed all its Land Israel has closed all its Land Border crossings with jordan Border Crossings with jordan after three israeli civilians after three israeli civilians were killed in a shooting were killed in a shooting at the Border Crossing at the Border Crossing betweenjordan and the occupied betweenjordan and the occupied west bank. To the victims families. The attacker, the attacker, reported to be a jordanian reported to be a jordanian Truck Driver, was shot dead Truck Driver, was shot dead by israeli security forces. By israeli security forces. The incident happened the incident happened at the King Hussein Allenby at the King Hussein Allenby bridge crossing. Bridge crossing. The victims are thought to have been private Security Personnel. Jordan has launched an investigation into the shootings. Jordan and israel signed a Peace Treaty in 199a and have close security and economic ties. But diplomatic relations have been strained. Lets hear from an eyewitness who was at the crossing at the time of the attack. The two countries have had quite close relations in some ways on security. But tensions have been rising becausejordan does have a very high population of palestinian refugees, many of whom have been deeply critical of israeli action in gaza. I mean, we dont know, for instance, whether this man named by the israeli security service. We dont know whether he acted alone or in a group or whether he was directly backed by iran or hamas or whatever. But obviously, even though they they have their tensions, Jordan And Israel will want to try and sort something out here. Neither is going to welcome the sort of events weve seen today at the Allenby Bridge border, because that really is quite horrific. Israeli forces have pulled out ofjenin. Thats a Flashpoint City in the west bank. They they pull out of there now, but its believed something like 39 people, or at least that number, died during that operation. And there are continued tensions. When we look at the events there since the start of the gaza war, its reckoned that more than this is by the palestinian Health Ministry that more than 660 palestinians have been killed over that period, and around 23 israelis, according to israeli security forces. So it looks like something that could always spiral even further out of control. And that is whats worrying people, that this could really take off. Hamas has repeatedly called for an uprising in the west bank. Until recently, there hasnt been one quite on the scale that hamas wants. But we did have a Suicide Bombing that, again, hamas has called for not long ago, in israel, carried out by palestinian extremists. So there is huge cause of concern here that this could spiral completely out of control. I want you to take you to live pictures in Tel Aviv, and we are continuing to see those protests that have been going. Uk prime Minister Sir Keir starmer says, in order to fix the economy, hes prepared for his government to be unpopular, as he defended axing Winterfuel Payments for pensioners. Sir keir has defended the move, which will be the subject because theyve run away from difficult decisions, we havent got the change we need for the country. His early popularity problems mainly stem from the decision to scrap Winter Fuel payments for all but the poorest pensioners, worth Up To £300 a year. The government says it will save over £1 billion this year by doing so, a necessary saving because of claims of a £22 billion Black Hole in the countrys finances. Nearly half of that £22 billion, £9 billion comes from decisions that your government has made to give many public sector workers pay rises above inflation. The last government set up the Pay Review mechanism, as every government does every year, and they set the framework for that. And they knew that the Pay Review recommendations would come back. What they didnt do was allocate any money at all to the outcome. The prime Minister Wouldnt say what the consequences would be for Labour Mps who rebel against him in a vote on the issue in the commons next week. But this Labour Mp is among those who have already made up their mind to abstain. This isnt about unpopular or difficult decisions. Its about impossible decisions for our elderly. Already weve seen that the economic case has been shredded. A report into the Grenfell Fire Tragedy this week found deep historic failings on fire safety. There are at least 2,000 buildings in the uk still waiting to have Flammable Cladding removed. The prime Minister Couldnt say when those thousands of homes would be safe, but acknowledged it was taking too long. Were speeding up the process. I want to get this done as quickly as possible. Each block will be on a different timetable. Im not able to give you an end date, but i can tell you i meant what i said when i responded to the report. I said, this has to be a turning point. For a government elected to achieve change, its been a gloomy debut. This is a Prime Minister who will continue to warn us all that that change will, at least for now, have to come at a cost. Here in the uk, thousands of offenders whove served A0 of their Prison Terms will be eligible for early release next week. The government says its necessary because of severe overcrowding in jails. There are fewer than 500 spaces left in mens prisons in england and wales a crisis made worse by the convictions of hundreds of people involved in riots last month. Sian williams is the ceo of switchback, a charity that helps young men find a way out of the justice system. Sian gave us her assessment on whether the early release of this many prisoners is a cause for concern. Every Day Prisoners are released. And so in that nothing is changing. The significant fact is that people are being released early. And so, as you say, 10 early. For some people, that means a week earlier than they would otherwise have been released. For other people, maybe Up To a year. Um, but the kind of key concern is always about what happens on release. And when youre released from prison, to stay out of prison, you need a few key things. You need somewhere to sleep so that you can actually stay off the streets. You need work. You need support. You need access to benefits. You need mental health support. And of course, the big challenge that were facing as a sector, both statutory sector and voluntary sector, who support people leaving prison, is that weve got more people leaving prison than we would normally on a day to day basis, and so we need more support services. So thats the concern. And weve, along with many other organisations in the sector, have been working really closely with the Probation Service and the Prison Service to get ready. Were concerned that theres not enough housing, were concerned theres not enough support but we are working really closely to make sure as many of those people who are released now are able to stay out of prison and build a new life. On average, 1 in 3 people released from prison do return to prison. Now, that isnt always about a new offence. Thats often because whats happened is they are claimed to have breached their licence conditions. And that might be, for example, not sleeping at the address that theyve been registered to when theyve left prison. And those things are often out of their control. So we absolutely know that when many people are suddenly released, as this is whats happening, many more than we would normally see, and theres a crunch in this country, as we know, in the housing crisis, we do anticipate more people will be recalled to prison for breaching their licence conditions, and thats why were working so closely with the prison and Probation Service. But we want to really see a change in an understanding of what the support needed is for someone leaving prison, so switchback, along with many other other organisations is calling for a national resettlement framework, really making sure that when someone is released they have Housing Notjust for the first six weeks, which is often what happens, but actually ongoing so that they can really build a stable life. So expect to see recalls increase, but were doing everything we can to help prevent that for the people were working with. This upcoming week will be a shock to the system, the first real taste of autumn, turning much cooler for all of us, with sunshine and showers, Windy At Times and nights a lot colder. But temperatures will begin recover again as we head into the following weekend. This weekend has been dominated by this thundery low with high humidity, some Heavy Rain and storms. This will slowly ease as it pushes eastwards during the overnight Period Tonight and leaves a legacy of cloud and spots of rain for england and wales. But scotland, Northern Ireland, already signs of Something Cooler and fresher moving in, with clearer skies, so single digits here. But double figures for england and wales. As we head into monday day, we see the Back Edge of that low pressure pull away in towards the near continent. It will bring further cloud, a few spots of rain during Monday Morning but then Skies Brighten up into the afternoon as it slides off into the near continent. Scotland and Northern Ireland sees the next Weather Front moving in, so thicker cloud, some spots of rain later in the day, but further south it should be dry with some sunshine. But already feeling cooler and fresher, 13 to 17 degrees from north to south. Monday night into first thing tuesday, low pressure starts to set into the north of the country, bringing wet and windy weather and some colder air begins to dig in behind it. Further south, still double figures to start tuesday so anotherfairly mild night to come. But it will change from tuesday onwards, behind the cold front, Arctic Air Sinking Southwards as we go through the day and it will be a strong north, North Westerly wind. Unsettled picture for tuesday, this band of rain associated with the cold front, some squally rain as it spreads southwards. Behind it, Skies Brighten up but itll be one of sunshine and blustery showers, these heavy across the North West and very windy for all of us, particularly across the North East of scotland. Factor in these sorts of Wind Speeds with these temperatures, low teens in the north, to around the mid to high teens in the south. It will feel noticeably chilly. It stays chilly throughout the week, temperatures below par for this time of year. Most of the showers in the north. Driest in the South And East but as we head into the following weekend, we start to see temperatures recover back closer to the seasonal norm. This is Bbc News the headlines.
