Sir Keir Starmer has become the first british Prime Minister to visit the Republic Of Ireland in five years. Downing street says saturdays visit marks a new era of Cooperation And Friendship between the united kingdom and ireland, with the two nations looking for a reset after brexit. Sir Keir Starmer met simon harris, the relatively new taoiseach. Ahead of their talks, they swapped Football Shirts and they will be attending a match in a pew i was time at the Aviva StadiumIn Dublin and the two are holding their face to Face Talk and they did speak to the media before they moved on. Today we are here In Dublin to probably try to flesh out what a reset actually looks like, and what it looks like in a practical sense for our citizens on both islands, and i certainly know that it has to be embedded in things like peace, prosperity, mutual respect and friendship, and i am really looking forward to having an opportunity to discuss that with you today. I know also our most solemn duty as leaders of our respective governments is our distinct roles as co guarantors of the peace process, something we both take extremely seriously, and there is much work to be done there to really harness the full potential of the gift that was given to us by the last generation, the most incredible gift of the Peace Agreement as well, and i look forward to seeing how we can work together on that. I am still only eight, going on nine weeks into office and i think for us to be having our second meeting at this level in those few weeks shows a real intention on both our parts to reset this relationship. Reset this relationship, renew this relationship, deepen it, and that will be of great benefit to ireland and great benefit to the united kingdom, so thank you very much for finding the time and hosting me with such a welcome here today. Lets speak to Sports Psychologist and Senior Lecturer at Glasgow Caldeonian university paul mccarthy. Hes helped a number of professional athletes manage performance anxiety. Hello and welcome to the programme. First off, i dont know whether you saw it live or consequently in reports, but when you saw him vomiting, what came to Mind Straightaway . I guess the experience of what is called exercise associated gastrointestinal distress is something that we do see from time to time, but usually with extreme physical exhaustion, and we see it on the Tennis Court as perhaps a bit unusual but understandable under the circumstances, the heat, the duration of the game and the consequences forjack himself. And the degree of anxiety that someBody would have to reach for that physical reaction, just talk us through what is going on in the Body. Just talk us through what is going on in the Body. Yes, so, from a cognitive going on in the Body. Yes, so, from a cognitive perspective, l from a cognitive perspective, what we are thinking about, theres is a lot of uncertainty and people are making anticipation of what will happen and there is uncertainty around the duration of the event and its outcome so that Storm of thoughts and feelings is perhaps creating a lot of undue stress at that time, but within the Body as well, there will be more severe tension and there will be physical exhaustion from the time and heat as well, and a combination of factors will contribute to those factors, as we have seen, and perhaps where psychologists do most of their work is trying to understand the things that happens beforehand, the behind the scenes and the consequences, and excessive worry is typical because when events are important to as an events are important to as an events are important to as an events are at the same time uncertain, we will consider what the possibilities might be and we will be worried, but trying our best to achieve the outcomes we are looking for Stop outcomes we are looking for Sto , outcomes we are looking for Sto ,. , Stop Elite Sports People have so many obstacles. Manifesting within different Sports Disciplines . Yes, and it really does depend on the really does depend on the demands. We would normally explain this in terms of the demands placed on an athlete and the resources they have to cope with those demands, and the demands changed in the different sports and it may be in terms of duration for a triathlon or in terms of duration in a Tennis Game with the heat, the importance of the game, semifinals, finals, etc. So the context in terms of the environment is always a contributing factor. And i guess, from the individual standpoint, we try to understand what interpretations and appraisals the athletes are making about the situations in which they find themselves at the degree to which they see those events as a challenge, something within their Control Or Something they have resources to deal with, compared with a fracked, where they feel they perhaps do not have the same resources to cope with the demands. This is what we tried to make our understanding with athletes about. ~ ,. , understanding with athletes about. ~. ,. , about. When you talk about understanding about. We are of course trying to be more forceful and bring more helpful ports to mind but we are at the same time trying to regulate our Body so we can deal with Tension Or Exhaustion and Address Decision making along the way and those are Skills that are learned where athletes can london throughout their career so regardless of age and stage, they could make the most of their circumstances by in investing a bit more. What we see is that athletes who learned these schools and put them into practice in competition typically are more successful in The End. Learn these Skills. I successful in The End. It kicked off last night and will see live music performances from some of the worlds most loved pop stars. Headline acts will feature the likes of sting, the sugababes and the Pet Shop boys. 0ur ReporterLola Schroer is there. Im at Radio 2 In The Park in Moor Park in preSton, and imjoined by 0j borg, and he presents midnight to 3am on the station. So, 0j, how are you finding preSton so far . Im finding it amazing. I think its amazing up here. Ive only been here a few hours. So far, its not rained, which i think is a positive. I think vernon might have ruined everything by saying the words, its going to stay dry. And then i ruined it as well by wearing a pair of very white trainers, which are definitely going to be perfect if it rains. But yeah, so far its amazing. And i think Radio 2 In The Park is an amazing thing because, you know, when you do radio, you sit in a studio, you are on your own. So to come out here and meet listeners, its just wonderful. Its amazing. Yeah, and last year was in leicester. So how important do you think it is for radio 2 to kind of, you know, get out of london, get out of Manchester And Travel . Well, it has to be, because its a station for the whole united kingdom. And im from leicester, so when they announced it was in leicester. You know, growing up there, it just didnt feel like we got any big things. It felt like everything bypassed leicester. So when we took it there i had friends and family who grew up with going, oh, my god, this is so amazing. I cant believe radio 2 is coming here. So to go to places like leicester and to preSton, i think its important because itjust we go to places where we broadcast to and we speak to the people that we talk to every day. Nice, nice. Now, ive been trying out some of the local delicacies. Ive been trying out some of the spud Brothers Jacket potatoes. What topping did you have . 0k, embarrassingly, very normal cheese and baked beans. But there were some, like, really nice, like Fried Onions on there. But are you looking forward to trying out any of the food here . This is a masterchef question, isnt it . Yeah. You do know how i got knocked out of masterchef, dont you . By a jacket potato. She beat me with a jacket potato. Shes actually going to be here in a few hours, and theres talk of us maybe having a cook off, which well be able to see on the radio two socials. Were going to do it straight after this, so well see what happens. But yeah, i havent tried anything yet, mainly because i was here early and im wearing to talk about why im wearing the whitest top youve ever seen. And i was convinced that if i had anything spud brothers or otherwise, i would drop it down my front like a toddler. Apart from the sugababes, who else are you excited about seeing live . Like obviously a band which arent a band, theyre an experience. And thats the Pet Shop boys. Cant wait to see them. Sister sledge. Everyone, really. I mean, the problem is im not allowed to have favourites. So im excited about seeing everyone, and i think theyll all be amazing. And there will be certain bands, like, ijust interviewed travis and they got everyone pogoing. And the first bands on i think is always, youve got to sort ofjudge it with whos there, and it wasjust a wonderful moment. They play why does it always rain on me . And it was everyone jumping around, everyone singing, and thats going to be the vibe for two days. And you can catch up with Traviss Performance on Bbc Iplayer and bbc sounds. We have plenty more coming up right here on bbc news, including the latest from sir Keir Starmer s trip to the Republic Of Ireland. Before that, its time for a look at the weather. Hello there. Were starting the weekend off on a fine note. Off on a fine note again across northern areas we have seen the best of the sunshine, part of scotland, northern ireland, North West England. Here, warmest, again reaching the Mid 20s. Across southern england, cloud increasing, showers, Thundery Downpours pushing up across the channel. The further north you are, lots of sunshine, western scotland, northern ireland, North West England perhaps seeing temperatures around 25 26 through this afternoon, more cloud, though, for england and wales, not quite as warm, still humid, rain pushing up from the south. The rain becomes heavier and more persistent as it pushes northwards during this evening. During this evening, spreading into southern and south eastern areas. Could see Thundery Downpours across East Anglia into the east midlands, Heavy Rain for south wales, south West England continuing to move northwards, pivoting round. So well see a band of rain towards The End of the night stretching from the East And North east of england through wales down into south West England, into south West England. Further south, well see clear spells, some Thundery Downpours, but largely dry for scotland and northern Ireland Temperatures for most around the mid teens. Sunday promises to be an unsettled one for england and wales, Heavy Rain across northern and western areas of wales. Sunny spells, though, for the midlands into Southeast England through the afternoon, but that could set off some heavy, slow moving downpours. Temperatures on the humid side, low to Mid 20s at best. The great North Run takes place across North East england, looks like it could be wet to start with, Rain Petering Out later in the day. The area of low pressure eventually starts to pull out through the course of monday and High Pressure topples in from the west. Thicker cloud, some showers across eastern areas, that will clear away, showers pushing into western scotland, otherwise a drier end to monday with good spells of sunshine. But a cooler and fresher day to come, mid to high teens across the board. Cooler through the new week, on tuesday opening the floodgates to an arctic northerly wind, a Lot Cooler by day and colder at night as well, some showers in northern and western areas, but quite a Lot Sunshine around and clearer skies at night. Take care. Live from london, this is bbc news. Sir Keir Starmer meets with his irish counterpart In Dublin, aiming to forge a new relationship post brexit. It a new relationship post brexit.
