Applause there isjust no applause there is just no justification for it. It will result in nearly 500 Million barrels of oil being burnt. It is another example of labours of session with growth at any cost. Applause they really are becoming the party that knows the price of everything but the value of nothing. Applause the Climate Science is clear. There must be no new oil and gas. This is non negotiable and you can be sure that as a green mp, iwill you can be sure that as a green mp, i will do everything i can to fight for a safe climate. And greens know that some things in life are not only priceless but irreplaceable. Later this year, the international climate conference, cup 29, will take place. Cop29 will take place. Cop29 will take place. We do not know if the Prime Minster will go in person but he shouldnt we have depressed people to have this on the Radar And Push for the global action that reflects the Climate Science. Since climate has reached the point where it is notjust only about Prevention And Greenhouse reduction, it is about the impact on labour as wiki, they do not understand the Climate Crisis is no longer something the distant horizon, climate breakdown is affecting peoples lives right now. Especially in the global south. And here in the global south. And here in the uk, we all experienced those records are destroying a0 degrees temperatures two summers ago. While last autumn, large parts of the country were badly impacted by the storms and floods that are becoming all too common. That is why elected greens across the country are working for real solutions and proper plans including Nature Based Plans to cope with the coming heatwaves and reduce the impact of flooding. And when i talk about greens at every level, it is an ever growing number. Cheering in may this year, our Counsellor Numbers rocketed to over 800. We could not be prouder of this. Our hard working greens on the ground serving their communities and gaining more trust, more votes, year on year because of that. This time round, we became the biggest party on more councils, in bristol, hastings and stroud. Cheering we made breakthroughs in newcastle, south norfolk, bolton, sefton, redditch, Hampshire County and many gains in many, many places across the country. We ran Inspiring May oral campaigns in london, here in Greater Manchester and around the country. Mayoral campaigns. And what do those results have in common with our general Election Success . They demonstrate that greens can and are winning everywhere. In all kinds of communities come in places traditionally red, historically blue, people are choosing something different. And it was clear in Election Week that so many people were Voting Green for the first time and were doing so proudly as a porter that for real hope and Real Change. And it was clear that we were gaining support from people from all walks of life, a wider range of support than ever before and so in may next year we intend to achieve more of the same, gain more inspiring, hard Working Councillors who ha rd Working Councillors who will change hard Working Councillors who will change their communities for the better. And then come in 2026 in wales, we have a fantastic opportunity to secure green representation in the senate, offering people the real Hope And Change that they are looking for. In the senedd. Now, we could not celebrate the Partys Success without offering our heartfelt thanks to the uks first evergreen mp, caroline lucas. Applause cheering it only takes caroline s name to get that reaction. A trailblazer whose integrity, grace, passion, Intelligence And Courage is the embodiment of a better politics. Caroline, we stand on your shoulders and weve learned so much from you. What ambition looks like, how to inspire others and how to articulate a positive vision that fills people with hope. Caroline, your achievements are legendary and we will be paying tribute to them more fully a little bit later but from now on behalf of all the green mps and everyone in our party, thank you. Cheering applause so, itjust leaves me to say my biggest thank you. Thank you to everyone who is on this journey with us. In this room today, and across the country. Whether you were a first time green voter or have voted green every time you had the opportunity, whether you knocked on hundreds of doors or chatter to your neighbours over the Garden Fence or your family lunch, whether this is your 50th conference or your first, i am told there are hundreds of you in this room who are here for the first time, welcome applause whether you opened up your home and hosted an Action Day or just. Just open your hearts to our message of hope. Thank you. Together, we can keep on making history, Keep On Doing Politics better and keep on delivering a brighter, fairer future. Applause cheering the ambitious, positive, inspiring future you have all helped demonstrate is possible to choose. This is what Real Change looks like. It looks like you. Thank you. Applause cheering Adrian Ramsay there, Co Leader of the Green Party, leaving the stage after making his conference speech. Lets go to a political correspondent in manchester listening to those cheers and applause for Adrian Ramsay. The message there right at the top, we will work with the government where we agree with them but we promise to hold the government to account. Yes. Government to account. Yes, that is right government to account. Yes, that is right and government to account. Yes, that is right and i government to account. Yes, that is right and i thought government to account. Yes, | that is right and i thought the phrase that stuck out to me it was a labour know the price of everything but the value of nothing and i suppose that sums up nothing and i suppose that sums up the argument Adrian Ramsay was making there, primarily a critique of the Labour Government and primarily an economic argument as well saying the argument that the Labour Government should go bolder, should go further and be more ambitious for example on things like a wealth tax, on taxing what he described as the wealthiest people, and introducing a Carbon Tax for example and it was interesting that the Trend Weve seen for a number of years now that the Green Party, the argument really there was not so much about the climate or the environment as much as it was about left wing economics as anything else and i think that as well the Green Party are positioning themselves in those House Of Commons with the four mps as a left Wing Challenge to labour. White because you predicted beforehand, talking about where they think labour are getting it wrong, Winter Fuel payments, Airport Expansion and the two Child Benefit Cap. As you predicted beforehand, talking about where they think labour are getting it wrong, Winter Fuel payments, Airport Expansion and the two Child Benefit Cap. Yes, and also housing, saying labour are handing more power to the hands of private landlords and we are green Party Activist and party faithful beginning to leave the Entrance Hall and beginning for the next few days of this conference and that is where we will see some of the Policy Areas of the greens really thrashed out. We did not see any new Policy Announcements any new Policy Announcements any new Policy Announcements any new party positions from Adrian Ramsay and in many ways thatis Adrian Ramsay and in many ways that is because that is not the nature of the Green Party, they sort out their policy, decide the positions democratically in committees, it is not handed down by the leaders perhaps is the case in other parties so there were not any particular Policy Ideas that were knew that we are from Adrian Ramsay but as you say that argument primarily focusing on labour, theyre not being ambitious enough that Adrian Ramsay said and also making the case that the green Party Authority real left Wing Alternative to labour on things like housing, Airport Expansion, Child Benefit Cap and winterfuel expansion, Child Benefit Cap and Winter Fuel allowance and primarily i thought it was interesting that the speech was so focused on the economic argument rather than on climate policies directly, i suppose. Absolutely and also public ownership for water companies, certainly an issue very much in the news at the moment. Yes, exactl , the news at the moment. Yes, exactly. And the news at the moment. Yes, exactly. And i the news at the moment. Yes, exactly, and i know the news at the moment. Yes, exactly, and i know we the news at the moment. Yes, exactly, and i know we spoke i exactly, and i know we spoke about housing as well, public ownership for rail, something he said labour was doing well and he said where he got the Labour Party was doing something they supported that they would support it but they would not be afraid to hold them to account and i think it was interesting, you may think the main political opposition i suppose to the greens would be the conservatives, i suppose they are the most politically opposed in many ways but they really were relegated to may be a couple of lines at the start and much of the rest of the speech focused on keir starmer, the Labour Party, with Adrian Ramsay arguing that they offered that real hope of Real Change, the slogan we had so much in the General Election from the Green Party and as we get this buzz around me, everyone leaving the election hall, that in many ways is the mood here, the Green Party, you get a sense that they are a party on the op they argue, they won nearly 7 of the vote at the election, going from one mp up to four mps and the question now is how they use those four mps, how they use that small but increased presence in the House Of Commons and what issues in particular they Focus On and i think we got a hint there of some of the things we will be expecting those green mps to Focus On, things like the Winter Fuel payments and we held adrian Ramsay Talk about dentistry, something he will be campaigning on but not a particular Lee Policy heavy speech or new positions or ideas like he did in the green Party Manifesto two months ago and the general Election Campaign but that is not the nature of the Green Party, that will be thrashed out as they walk past, going into Committee Rooms and debates, largely behind the scenes, and that is the best way for them to develop policy, not open to reporters like me. They have those argument Behind Closed Doors and that is how they thrash out their policy. We spoke about earlier about some of the challenges the Green Party faces as i walked into the Conference Hall this morning there was that protest as it were from that gender critical group and that is the Argument Youll see particularly in the next few days. Particularly in the next few Da S. ,. ,. ,. , ~ days. Interesting, lots to talk about at the days. Interesting, lots to talk about at the conference about at the conference continues but for the moment, thank you. Lets get some more off todays other stories and the Home SecretaryYvette Cooper has been chairing a meeting to look at ways of tackling criminal gangs who smuggle people across the channel. The ministers in the Uk Border force discussing what more can be done to stop crossings with our home editor reporting. The government claims the deaths of 12 migrants in the channeljust off the french coast earlier this week is evidence of both the moral imperative in destroying the smuggling gangs, and also that measures to disrupt the criminal networks are having an impact. The Home Office says it suggests the Business Model of the smugglers is under pressure
