Political strategist, and Mary Anne Marsh is a democratic strategist. Theyjoined me to talk about the Trump Townhall Event but i started by asking whether the School Shooting in georgia would mean guns and Gun Laws would be more of an issue in the remaining days of the campaign. Theres no question it will continue to be raised as an issue. It is always an issue. Gun reform is on the table, No Doubt about it. But ultimately, the only Way Anything will happen about Gun Reform is to elect Kamala Harris to the white and prayers from any elected Officialjust Sort of feels not just inauthentic, but wrong. And i have to say that as a mother, when we send our children to school, we expect them to come back and come back alive. And so what were seeing right now is two things at play a lack of political will from our elected leaders, largely, obviously, republicans, and then to pass sensible gun control, which is what i believe is a big problem there. But at the second on this, on the other hand, the second thing at play here is the discussion about rights. You know, we, we americans have a right to go into public places and not be shot to death. So what will be done about this in the next 60 days . Im not quite sure, but all i know is that it has to remain front of mind because we are back in school here within these united states, and all we feel as american parents are that our leaders are failing us. Let me ask you both something thats happened in the last half hour. Were seeing reports that Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to those charges in the revised 2020 Election Subversion Indictment that was laid to the court. And that, of course, follows everything we saw at the supreme court. Mary ann marsh, how do you think that reviving itself will play over the next 60 days . I think whether its the Shooting Yesterday or the Plea Put in behalf of Donald Trump today, it is a reminder to voters with 61 days to go of all the concerns they have about Donald Trump. The more voters see of Donald Trump, the less they like him. Thats especially true of women. You are seeing Record Voter Registration of women, black voters and voters 30 and under. And that is an indication, and a positive one for democrats. The Shooting Yesterday galvanises women in particular and mothers, as rina well knows. And then when you add the fact that Donald Trump has 3a felonies in front of him and other troubles, they dont like that. So its a reminder of the challenges that Donald Trump has in terms of this election, which will be close, but also that voters take into the Voting Booth with them when they think about him and whether theyre going to vote for him. Rina shah . Im curious to see trumpism be rejected in certain pockets of the country because, as ive been looking at over the past year, i see in certain places when we talk about messaging, whats really resonating, so american women, of course, are galvanised by the issue of reproductive Care And Access abortion, but also by these School Shootings, shootings that are mass shootings in public places that certainly remain front of mind. But at the same time, weve got republicans having had some success tying the southern border immigration to crime and public safety. And so thats one thing in which i want to see Kamala Harris really drill deeper and talk to the american public about how she would be different than how shes been alongside biden in the White House these past four years. Also, front of mind, similarly, right there in that cache of Kitchen Table issues is economy, and so divorcing herself from biden is something she has got to do often, and shes got to do it well in order to again penetrate what i believe is this bubble of Centre Right and centre left women that are going to determine the outcome of this election, particularly in seven states, in the Rust Belt and the sun belt. Mary ann, i dont think you would disagree in terms of what the Attack Lines from the republicans are. And thats right the economy, immigration, cost of living. You were watching that trump Town Hall. Did he stay on message . Because i was listening to one exchange, he was asked about the georgia shooting. He ended up in a sort of rambling way, getting to talk about Viktor Orban endorsing him. Right. I watched the Town Hall meeting last night as well, and it was fascinating because you really got insight into where Donald Trump thinks this race stands today with 61 days to go and what the debate Tuesday Night might look like. And it is clear Donald Trump is concerned about his ability to win this race. The fact that the Town Hall was held not only by fox but in harrisburg, pennsylvania, the capital of that all important state with 19 electoral votes that Donald Trump lost four years ago. He has to win it. It is a battleground state. Both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are competing hard for it, but she has more options to win to get to 270 than Donald Trump does. And i think you saw that by his the Attack Lines he did and i think you saw that by the Attack Lines he did last night on energy, on fracking, on the economy, on immigration, onjobs, all the same Attack Lines, but he didnt really make a whole lot of progress. And i think it reallyjust revealed more than anything, he knows hes in the fight of his life. Just over 50 years ago, a journalist called Nancy Friday wrote a Book My Secret Garden all about womens sexual fantasies. It was a Best Seller and a revelation. That was 1973. Now, actor Gillian Anderson known for playing the Sex Therapist in the Tv Series Sex education has compiled her own collection of womens fantasies, called want, which were emailed to her anonymously by women from all over the world. Our Culture Editor Katie razzall has been talking to her. I found it so difficult to understand what truly my own fantasies are. So much of what is played out in pawn is geared towards men, and so many expectations set on us as women. Gillian anderson, reading from her new book, want. A collection of womens sexual fantasies sent to her from across the world. Why dont you start by telling me how you feel . Viewers of Sex Education will be used to Gillian Anderson talking about sex in her role as a Sex Therapist. The new book is a modern take on a Cult Classic that put womens sexual Fantasies Centre Stage back in 1973. I wonder whether you came to any conclusions about how our attitudes to sex and women and sex have changed in the 50 years, 50 odd years since Nancy Friday . I think one of the things that surprised me was that there is still so much shame. Women still struggle to talk about it, struggle to share even, you know, in the Western World where we have access to it all the time. I wonder how you view it. Has pawn changed our Sex Lives and perception of sex, particularly amongst younger people . I think the book would probably be quite a good read for youth of today, because there are so many different versions of how sex can be that is outside what one might see, handed to them by the pawn industry. Theres a lot of tenderness and women really wanting to be seen for themselves and who they are. Actually, im looking forward to working with you. Its 30 years since anderson shot to fame as Dana Scully in the x files. Shes played powerful and interesting women ever since miss havisham in great expectations, real Life Journalist Emily Maitlis in scoop. Many of the fantasies are from older women. They have insight, they have appreciate their emotional maturity. So the ageing process, im glad to hear it as im very much ageing, does have its benefits. But as an actor in the public eye, i wonder how you deal with it and how you approach ageing. Ive certainly gone through periods where its struck me quite harshly that i too am ageing, and one needs to go through a mourning of, you know, Mourning Youth at various stages. But being on camera, there are certainly times where i see the final product and thinking, oh my god, is that really. Is that really what i look like . And going through some feelings around that, but then also realising that thats, you know, going to be the youngest that i look like from here on out. So id better, you know, embrace it. I just want to go back to your book, want. Yes, please. The fantasies are anonymous. Yes. And as you said, one of the fantasies is yours, and i have to ask, any clues, which one . Yeah, well, i thought actually, today i might, um, let you know which one it was. No shut up. Whats great is that theyre anonymous. Hello there. A real mix of weather around this afternoon. We could have a few Flooding Problems to come across southern parts of england, but for Northern Ireland and West Scotland, the skies look like this. No chance of flooding here. Its a beautiful, warm and sunny day. Its across the south of england that weve already seen some rain, and The Rain is set to get a lot heavier over the next few hours because this area of rain thats been across northern france, thats brought 24mm of rain in just the space of one hour. And that intense zone of rain is rotating in now across southern england. So coastal parts of sussex, isle of wight, hampshire, into parts of wiltshire, somerset and perhaps gloucestershire as well, these areas im most concerned about, with that torrential rain potentially bringing some localised flash flooding, where we see that very intense rain over the space of a few hours. So there could be some problems this afternoon. Now there will be some rain across southern parts of wales too, further northwest for West Scotland and Northern Ireland, it stays beautiful, fine, settled and sunny, probably seeing the weather brighten up across East Anglia for a few as we go through the afternoon. But underneath that rain in the south, for some temperatures just around 1a or 15 this afternoon. 0vernight tonight, more rain is forecast across these southern areas. Elsewhere, it will turn quite humid. That humidity will build in some areas of low cloud. Bit of drizzle, some Mist And Fog patches. So for some, for East Scotland and eastern areas of england, it could be quite a murky start to the day tomorrow. Slow improvements as well. Eventually, most of us will see some warm spells of sunshine, but not in the south. Here, weve got further outbreaks of rain and again, that rain is set to be heavy and potentially thundery. Away from the far south, though, overall its a much warmer day tomorrow. Temperatures quite widely between around 22 and 27 celsius. The weekend, same area of low pressure still on our weather charts. The system is weakening somewhat, so rather than the persistent rain, we are looking at showers. The showers could be heavy and thundery and wontjust be affecting southern portions of the uk, the risk extends across the midlands, North Wales and into northern england, too. The North West of scotland and Northern Ireland, probably having the driest and the brightest of the weather both through saturday and sunday. But that said, most of us, i think, will see at least some sunshine at times, but still hefty downpours around for england and wales into sunday.
