Intensive investigation, at some of these details to be heard before, some are new including new photographs of the weapon Thomas Crooks used, the weapon Thomas Crooks used, the backpack he used to transfer to tin, and some expenses, some unexploded explosives in the trunk of his car. In essence, to sum up what was contained in this long briefing, the fbi are saying that they have found no evidence that Thomas Crooks was working with any conspirators, evidence of any foreign involvement. Although the can find no clear evidence of motive at this stage of the investigation, they have begun to find out something of his state of mind. They say that by searching his Mobile Phone and computers, they have been able to look at some of his thinking and those searches that he was engaged in, as you say, 60 times or more, appearing to focus on both democrat and republican events. The fbi seen that he, his ideology showed no clear right or left leanings. Some interesting detail, and also in the kind of searches he was doing. The point of this Briefing Today it was to show how seriously the fbi is taking this investigation and the lights, it has to be said, of some criticism from some members of congress regarding their hand and of evidence on their hand and of evidence on the approach they are taking. The left of the detailed today was to push back at some of those accusations and submit the point that the fbi is doing all it can to piece together the events leading Up To the attempted shooting. They were escorting a convoy of trucks carrying humanitarian cargo to the central air of gaza. You may remember earlier this year, in early april, seven Aid Workers were killed after a Drone Attack on their convoy. That news just coming into us. At least nine people have died, in the biggest israeli Military Operation in the occupied West Bank, for 20 years. Last month, the international Court Ofjustice ruled that israels continued occupation of the area, captured in 1967, breached international law. Violence has been increasing in the West Bank, since the hamas attacks on october seventh, with the un saying more than 650 palestinians have been killed, while theres been violence against israelis. This latest massive Military Operation, involved israeli forces simultaneously entering the cities ofjenin, tulkarm, nablus and tubas, in what the defence forces say is a counter terrorism strike. Ive been speaking to our international editor Jeremy Bowen who gave me his analysis of the situation in the West Bank. Well, this is of itself an escalation because its the biggest israeli operation, as youve said, for more than 20 years Military Operation on the West Bank. The israelis would argue that its an escalation, too, because they say that iran has been funding some of the armed groups there, supplying them with weapons, opening up what the israeli Foreign Minister called an Eastern Front against israel to create a base for attacks on israeli civilians. Ithink, though, that what were actually seeing is just the latest iteration of the steady descent into more bloodshed that has been occurring since the October 7th attacks by hamas into israel almost a year ago now. And also the fact that this is, yeah, people, Otherforces May well get involved. I have no idea if iran is funnelling weapons towards the West Bank. Perhaps it is. But the point is, the fundamental issue is the conflict, the conflict between israelis and palestinians about who controls the land. Palestinians want the West Bank as part of a future state, an independent state. The israeli government has said that under no circumstances can the palestinians have independence and therefore freedom, self determination, and that the entire land the israeli government says between the riverjordan and the sea is land that belongs to the jews. Now, we have been reporting in the last number of weeks and months on violence from some israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, and weve heard from the us today, it has announced new sanctions related to that violence. We are seeing that Benjamin Netanyahu is saying in the last short while, he views with the utmost severity these new us sanctions on settlers. Do you think its likely that if there is an evacuation of palestinians from the West Bank, that settlers will use that opportunity to expand their settlements . Quite possibly. The israeli Foreign Minister has been suggesting that entire populations should be moved out of the areas where the army is, the Israeli Army is operating, in the way that they keep doing it in gaza to enable them to, the israelis would argue, save lives, civilian lives, but to give the army a free hand in those areas. Now, there are these groups of large numbers of militant armed jewish settlers who operate with the support of significant figures in the government, including the Prime Minister. You hear it from what he said about the american sanctions. He has appointed as effectively the governor of the West Bank one of the effectively settler leaders, who is an ultra nationalist, hard jewish, nationalist politician. And so, yeah, the americans are saying Extremist Settler Violence in the West Bank causes intense human suffering, harms israels security, and undermines the prospects for peace and stability. So they have sanctioned one organisation which basically expelled 250 palestinians from their homes and took the land, and one individual who is a prominent sort of security leader, you might say, in one of the more militant settlements in the West Bank. But, you know, its not very much its pretty symbolic. And will it change the way that settlers operate in the occupied territories . I highly doubt it. But it could be briefly and finally, Jeremy Another flashpoint in a situation of many flashpoints . I think this is a major escalation thats going on at the moment, and it means that the West Bank, where there has been a steady descent into more bloodshed, has boiled right up now, and well see what happens. Jeremy bowen. Still to come on the World Today Flower power britiain s rarest orchid has been discovered in england for the first time in more than a decade. And this is in the context in which the company like Thames Water sukkot £115 billion in dividends from last year. The recent analysis that we conducted founded that the Water Industry as a whole to code £377 for every single hour of sewage it dumped into our rivers and seas, so it absolutely makes no sense that they would be allowed to continue to take out dividends from this companies while putting the burden on the public Service User to carry the weight of this problem. I hope it isnt the only one out there either, thank you for talking to us, richer richard. Time now for a look at the weather forecast. Hello there. Weve certainly seen some contrasting Weather Conditions across the country today. Out to the west, its been cloudy and often wet once again. This was chorley in lancashire this morning, some of the rain really quite heavy, clearing away to some drizzly, murky conditions. The best of the sunshine, well, high cloud, yes, across East Anglia and south east england, but thats where we had the sunshine and the warmth. In fact, Temperatures Peaking in the high 20s by the middle part of the afternoon. Probably too hot for many of us, but as those Weather Fronts that brought the Rain Sink south and east, no rain on it, but theyre going to introduce fresher air as they move through overnight. So on thursday morning, then, well start off with a lot of sunshine and just a few scattered showers across northern england, northern ireland. Showers more frequent into scotland, moving from west to east through the day. Top temperatures between 14 19 degrees here, but we should see temperatures at 23 celsius, so a little bit more pleasant perhaps across southeast england. Now, as we move through thursday evening, those showers will tend to fade away, perhaps just clinging to the far north of Scotland Clearing skies, thats going to allow those temperatures to fall away into single figures. Maybe a little bit misty and murky as well first thing into northern ireland, southwest scotland. But on the whole, we keep that quieter theme of weather. Friday will start off dry, settled with some sunshine coming through. Cloud will build up through the day, but it should be largely dry for many throughout the day, and temperatures will once again range from 15 19 degrees in the north, perhaps 20 23 celsius across parts of england and wales. High pressure is going to stay with us as we move into the weekend. It will start to drift its way north and east, allowing the Wind Direction to come in for more of an easterly that could push in more cloud off the north sea. Certainly a fresher feel on those exposed east coast, and perhaps not as sunny as it has been, so sheltered western areas seeing the best of the sunshine and a dry day for scotland and northern ireland, and as a result, a little warmer as Well Highs here of 22 degrees. Second half of the weekend looks quite promising. Again, that High Pressure still likely to pull away, but we keep that drier theme, and thats going to hold those Weather Fronts out in the atlantic. So, dry settled and sunny story as we continue into sunday, and as a result a little warmer, too. Hello, im samantha simmonds. Youre watching the context on bbc news.
