Strong do you think demand is right now for these chips . fist right now for these chips . At the right now for these chips . Git the moment it is incredible. They cant make enough. They are the real superstar of the Ai Sector at this moment. They had the market to themselves. They are a good indicator of both the market itself but also of the position and the fact that they are the person you go to if you want to have the chips to set up your own ai system. What might everyone wants these chips, but there have been reports of potential delays, certainly in the shipment of the new chips. Do you think we will hear more about that when they report their results, will set the address that . I think they have to, everyone knows there a slight delay there and they just ignore it. These chips are hugely complex and it is part of a long Design Chain delays are kind of inevitable. They happen in this industry because these chips are hugely complicated. I dont think it is a big deal that it has been delayed, their Road Map had a very short timescale, they were bringing out a new card every year and that is normally on a two basis. They are under accelerator programme, i dont think a small slip will be a problem. I think a real problem is there is any vision of Demand Slowing down. fin is there is any vision of Demand Slowing down. On the Auestion Demand slowing down. On the question of Demand Slowing down. On the question of Demand Demand slowing down. On the question of Demand Slowing. Question of Demand Slowing down, what you think we will learn about the big customers out there . Are they still spending with wallets wide open . It spending with wallets wide 0 en . , spending with wallets wide oen . , ,. , spending with wallets wide oen . , g, open . It does seem to be that wa but open . It does seem to be that way but you open . It does seem to be that way but you have open . It does seem to be that way but you have to open . It does seem to be that| way but you have to remember that the current customers are very deep pocketed. What they have to pay for the chips not really indication of the Ai Market that will eventually be attractive to You And Me and the people around us. We have yet to find that Killer App for the Ai Industry but at the moment the companies that are training the systems, training the chips, they cant get enough of them stop that is google, amazon, microsoft even companies like tesla and apple, they are all wanting these chips because without them they cant learn how to do ai. They are spending cant learn how to do ai. They are spending heavily cant learn how to do ai. They are spending heavily on are spending heavily on innovation but what about Wall Street . We have seen traders starting to lose patience on the lack of returns for these huge investments. Huge investments. That is a classic wall huge investments. That is a classic Wall Street huge investments. That is a | classic Wall Street problem. They expect these things to happen overnight and they dont. It takes a long timescale. Patience is good but dirt with Wall Street it is probably the big issue they have to face. People are looking at them, their Earning Score is properly more important, then the speeches last week. Everybody is looking at it. It is responsible for a third of the gains this year. It is enormous the impact they have, so the downside to that, a small Pot Hole in the road could demolish the market. Almost at the time, other Chip Makers are now locked in an Arms Race to release newer more efficient ai chips. Can they catch up . It more efficient ai chips. Can they catch up . More efficient ai chips. Can they catch up . It will take a while, typically they catch up . It will take a while, typically once they catch up . It will take a while, typically once you i they catch up . It will take a| while, typically once you get behind this, there is a two year catch up period. Nvidia is moving a step forward. It take them time but undoubtedly they will. Probably more dangerous than that that nvidias current customers, google etc are designing their own chips. They want to bring it in house like apple does with its iphone chips. They want to be in charge of their own Silicon Destiny so that is probably a bigger longer Term Threat then the shorter ones from intel and amd. Indie threat then the shorter ones from intel and amd. From intel and amd. We will have to live from intel and amd. We will have to live there. From intel and amd. We will have to live there. Thank from intel and amd. We will i have to live there. Thank you. You are welcome. If you are missing the olympics, dont worry. Later today the Paralympic Games officially get under way. The event spans 11 days of elite competition across 22 sports, featuring 4,400 athletes from 128 nations. While many cited the London 2012 games as a watershed moment for the paralympics, can paris 2024 raise the Bar Forfairer Sponsorship in the Paralympic Games . Nicola kemp is editorial director at creativebrief, a marketing intelligence platform. We asked her if the paralympicgames offer a special kind of opportunity for brands . Really interesting because theres a huge Marketing Opportunity here. Theres a real sponsorship gap. So this is an opportunity that crosses sectors. You do tend to see the same core sponsors as you do in the olympic games. So we see a lot of automotive brands, like toyota, has got some really interesting paralympic campaigns. Orange in france has a wonderful paralympic campaign, but this is a wide, industry wide opportunity that travels beyond an individual sector as the paralympics kicks off. Media coverage is the fuel. That is what the brands are paying for, and were seeing this really interesting era of Sports Storytelling where were seeing stories told with greater depth and authenticity. But the opportunity for the paralympics isnt just because its a good thing to do for society. The fact is that 10 of the population is disabled. But when it comes to representation in advertising, less than i of adverts feature people with disabilities. So even if you dont have a disability now, the chances are that you are going to become disabled in your lifetime. So brands arent representing those people. Who is winning the streaming wars . Back injanuary, netflix claimed victory when it announced 13. 1 million new subscribers worldwide during the last 3 months of 2023. Netflix now has an estimated of 260 Million paid global subscribers, way ahead of rivals disney, warner bros discovery, paramount and comcast. So are the streaming wars over . Has netflix won . We put that question to lily thaler, senior strategist at Design Bridge and partners. I think the wars arent quite over. I think that netflix has won a lot of important battles, and they inarguably have incredibly strong brand equity. But the reality is the landscape is shifting quite a bit. Weve seen a lot of Consolidation And Proliferation in the Streaming Space while theyve won with subscribers right now. I think the bigger question is, have they found their niche as a storyteller and a producer, as we see content become such a really important part of the way that streamers build their brand . The most important thing in Brand Building when it comes to streaming services is having a Content Development Strategy thats really rooted in something more meaningful to the brand. When you look at a brand like hbo, they have a legacy of being high quality, kind of cinematic, deep storytelling. When you look at a network like nbc. Theyre known for really in the moment, real time storytelling, and so the type of content they need to produce needs to align with that strategy to really engage consumers and create a cohesive Brand Expression through content, which is the Number One way people engage with and reflect there, you know, affinity with these brands every day. I think what netflix has done is theyve shifted really beautifully from being kind of almost a Dumping Ground in the past, to being a really reliable Content Hub for any type of content, from peoples favourite channels and networks in the past to now really nailing original content. I think what they need to figure out moving forward is what is their true voice. Do they have a niche . Do they have something unique about the types of stories they tell beyond telling all stories . But i think its that shift from Content Hub to content producer in a way thats really engaged users through their ui that set them apart so far. Last summer, millions across the world donned pink as barbie, the movie dominated the Box Office and became a cultural phenomenon. Now, makers of the nokia phone, hmd global, have teamed up with the toymaker mattel, to create, a barbie Flip Phone, as many parents grapple with how to give their children barbie, a 65 year old brand which was given a new lease of life last summer when the star studded film hit cinemas, is back again. Hi, barbie this time its in the form of a Flip Phone made by the Mobile Phone Company hmd, the same Budget Brand behind nokia. Its a feature phone, also sometimes called a dumb phone, meaning theres no access to Social Media and it can only perform basic functions like Texting And Calling. As concerns about the pressures of digital life on young people grows, hmd hopes devices like this might prove popular with children and indeed adults looking for a digital detox. I asked the firm whether the handset will live up to expectations among young people as it tries to compete with smartphones. We are very clear when we say, like, this phone comes without Social Media, and because weve seen this surge in actually young people wanting to have a digital detox, no, this is actually delivering on what theyre demanding right now. I think when we are talking about barbie, thats also like theres a lot of good values with barbie. It convinces the parents about, like, yes, you believe in the brand. I made this my phone for one day, and it certainly was an effective digital detox because there really isnt a lot you can do on it. You can get online, but its impossible to read. Theres no app store, no front facing camera, and only one game. And while you can text, the Barbie Phone doesnt recognise the Default Message setting thats on plenty of smartphones, so you might not get any replies. While this will undoubtedly appeal to some parents, some Industry Experts question its broader appeal. Perhaps in that kind of 7 to 10 year old before you go to secondary school, and theres an expectation that smartphones are almost a birthright, thats an opportunity. However, the grim reality is when i talk to people whove got smartphones and explain to them the implications of giving up their smartphone for something much more basic, its a pretty tough sell. Yeah, i already have tiktok. We decided to put the phone to the test with its key target audience. So id like if there was things like google and you could take pictures, and more games. I probably wouldnt use a phone like that because it doesnt have all the apps that i usually like to use. I personally, its something that im really worried about for my daughter. In terms of introducing children to using a phone with restricted kind of access to Social Media, i get on board with that. Hmd says it would welcome apps like whatsapp on board with barbie, but whatsapp says not all Operating Systems work with its service. For now, Texting And Calling is going to have to be kenough. Very pink, at least itll be easy to find. That is all we have time for, stay with us on bbc news. Hello from the bbc sport centre. The Opening Ceremony for the paralympics takes place in paris later with the city promising a games to remember. After covid Saw No Fans in Tokyo And Rio was dogged by financial issues, the pressure is on for paris to rival, or even better, London 2012. Beyond just the sport however, those involved say theyre mindful of a secondary purpose for the games. It is always important, we are here winning at least four medals but we are part of the incredible global movement, the Paralympic Movement Which On and off The Field want disabled people to be realised in society. Those performances on The Field can only help us in that cause. The 2021 Us Open champion, emma raducanu, is out of this years tournament, losing Herfirst Round Match to sofia kenin.
